Ch-8 ★Unexpected Visit
Ch-8 ★Unexpected Visit
[Aulaura]
Eastside, London
It was magnificent apartment complex in which Jay lived. There were tall, blue walls with water flowing down them shielded by fiber-glass sheets. White, erect pillars had been placed by the entrance. Large aquariums filled with exotic fishes were placed by the lounge area. A slow, quiet song drifted through the reception area. This place looked like a giant undersea world even the lights were of a blue color. No-wonder it was called the Oceanic Enclave.
I stood in front of the reception. Jay’s manager had said Jay would be in his apartment right now, he doesn’t head for the studio before eight o’clock. It was currently six in the morning. I hope Jay was awake right now.
The receptionist was sitting behind a marble counter with her eyes glued to the computer screen. She was wearing a tight-black suit. I wonder how did this woman breathe in such tight suit. She looked quite young, maybe in her early twenties. Long, black locks fell down her back, adorning her oval shaped face.
“Excuse me?” I spoke, her eyes snapped in my direction. She smiled an overly sweet smile.
She folded her hands on top of her arms. “How may I help you Madame?”
“Can you tell which way is apartment 413?” Her smile flattered a bit as she pressed her lips into a thin line. She looked at me as though I had asked her to give me her car.
“Why do you want to meet Jay?” she narrowed her eyes at me. Her eyes shifted to the jacket I had been holding. “And what are doing with his jacket?” why was she acting like an overly attached girlfriend?
“None of your business,” I tightened my hold on Jay’s jacket, afraid she might snatch it for my hands. Who was she anyways?
She looked unfazed by my reply and continued to stare at me like she wanted me to disappear from the face of earth. I can assure you if looks could kill, I probably would have been choked to death by now. Ouch!
“He’s mine,” she sneered through her lip-glossed mouth.
I held up my hands. “I’m not asking for him either. I’m just asking you where is his apartment is,”
“Keep you dirty hands off him,” What the hell was wrong with her. “He’s mine do you understand?”
“What are you? His girlfriend,” I let out an exasperated sigh.
“No...” Her face fell a little. “I’m...” She looked like a lost puppy, except she wasn’t cute. “Um I’m....” Then her eyes lighted up again with pert happiness. “But I will be someday till then you better stay away from him,”
I let out a sigh, here we go again. “He’s mine and mine only,” she pounded her fist against the counter. Maybe I should look for his apartment by myself or I should ask someone else. I scanned the lobby there was no-one here except for her. Great!
I returned my attention back to Mrs. Crazy headed women. She pointed her finger at me. “If you ever touch him, I will break these little fingers of yours one by one. I will snap them apart-“
“Britney!” Another voice entered the lobby causing the mad receptionist to shut-up. Thank God. I turned to see, a very strict looking man standing behind me. His blonde hair had been neatly combed. He was wearing a crisp, black suit with a blue tie. I looked at the silver nametag pinned to his chest which said Andrew Coff, assistant manager of the Oceanic Enclave.
“How many times do I have to warn you not to mess with guest? Do you want to get fired or what?”
The receptionist bowed her head a bit. “No, sir,” she shook her violently. I almost felt bad for her, almost....Nah, she deserved it for almost chewing my ears off with her jabbering.
Andrew let out a sigh, his strict façade crumbled as more relaxing, carefree look took over his face. “Sometimes I think I should be more strict with you guys, the way the manager is,”
“No-no sir,” Britney spoke in a rush. “I’m really sorry for everything,”
“Don’t repeat this mistake again or else-“he left his words hanging in the air.
Andrew turned to face me, smiling politely at me. “Sorry about that. I suppose you’re here to meet Mr. Walter,” Wait, how did he know? Creepy...
“How-“I began, only to be interrupted.
“Brittany usually behaves this way when it is something concerning Mr. Walter,” he shot Brittney a stern look. I saw her scowl at me with creases between her eyebrows. I could tell she wanted to chew me up like a piece of mint bubble gum. “She’s a big Mr. Walter fan,”
“I can understand,” I didn’t understand, actually but I said that just to be polite since Andrew was being nice to me.
“I’ll take you to Mr. Walter’s apartment,” He spoke, escorting me towards the elevator at the opposite end of the lobby. He pressed the up arrow button. “It can be quite a hassle finding his room. You see, we’ve situated his room in special secure spot so that no harm could befall Mr. Walter,”
The elevators doors popped open with a ding sound. I stepped in with Andrew following me. There were twenty-eight floors on this building. Andrew pressed the button which had the number twenty-seven printed on it.
“I’m Andrew by the way the assistant manager of Oceanic Enclave,” He twisted his body to smile at me. “And you are?”
“Aulaura,”
His lively eyes widened a bit. “Aulaura Grey as in the daughter of Charles Grey. That’s why I thought you looked so familiar. Sorry for not recognizing you earlier,” I inwardly groaned. I didn’t like where this discussion was heading. This was how people behaved around me once the found out whose daughter I was.
I nodded my head, looking at the digital screen above the elevator doors. We were on floor number fourteen. Thirteen floors to go. I was already beginning to feel suffocated with Andrew looking at me with such a close eye. If there was window somewhere here I would jump out of it.
“Mr. Grey was thinking about buying our apartment complex,” Andrew started out. I know where this was headed. The same old thing I went through ever time. “I’m sure if you pressurized him a-little. Mr. Grey would surely buy our apartment,” Yup, I was right. Goal for me! Like everyone else I knew, He wanted a favor from me.
“Sorry but I don’t interference in my father’s business matters,”
His smile dampened a bit. “But aren’t you the future CEO of the innovation,” I wanted to do nothing more than to punch his face for saying that. I wanted punch it till his momma won't be able to recognize it.
I smiled, straining my lips to curve upwards. “Future CEO, I’m not one right now,”
“If you ask Mr. Grey, he-“He wasn’t going to let this drop. I just have to bear him till I get to Jay’s apartment. Then I can kick him to my heart’s desire. Yes, perfect plan.
Take a deep breath in and let it out. Calm down, Aulaura, Calm down.
“I’ll see what I can do,”
He cheered up again. “You will? Thank you so much,” he shook my hand, pulling it up and down madly. Maybe the entire staff of this hotel was bonkers.
The elevators doors popped open, again. Just in time this man was about to strangle me to death.
I stepped out. We entered a large hall with only four doors. The carpets were light blue while the walls were of sea-green color. Small, shell shaped bulbs lighted the hall.
“These are the royal suites of our hotel,” Andrew spoke, walking to door at the furthest end. We stopped in front of a white door with chipped paint. It looked like a janitor’s closet from its size.
“Jay lives here?” the world’ biggest rock-star couldn’t be living in such a low-class place.
Andrew let out a laugh. “Of-course not,” he pulled out a card from his pants pocket and inserted the card into the slot under the door’s rusted handle. The door flung open. All I could see was mops, buckets, and bottles filled with colorful liquids. Was this some kind of joke? Because it wasn’t funny.
Andrew walked into the small closet, moving the mops and buckets out of the way revealing another small door. He then again inserted a card into the door and twisted the door’s handle. A straight, carpeted staircase came into my view, there were shell shaped bulbs lighting the steps.
“As you just saw this apartment complex has twenty-eight floors,” Andrew led me up the narrow staircase. “But in-reality we have twenty-nine floors. Floor number twenty-eight is actually floor number twenty-nine,” ”
“So we’re heading towards the real floor number twenty-eight,”
“Exactly,” Andrew pulled out another card, with a golden border. Soon we came to the end of the stairs. In front of us was another door. Andrew quickly inserted the card into its slot. The door flew open revealing another hall but it was quite small. There was floor-length window at the end of the hall through which the rising sun’s light streamed in. There was only one door in this hall.
“This entire floor belong to Mr. Walter,”
“Impressive,”
Andrew smiled brightly at me. “I know, right?I bet now you’ll really want to own this hotel,”
Haha this guy was seriously a joke. He just kept on talking about my father buying this hotel.
“Of-course,” I muttered sarcastically. “By the way why does Jay need so much security?”
Andrew shrugged his shoulders. “Bigger people, bigger enemies,” He was right...for once. More the money, more the troubles.
“Well I should be heading back before the manager arrives,” He scratched the back of his head.
“Thank you for your help,” I smiled.
“It was my duty um...could you please talk to Mr. Grey about it?” And there he goes again. I let out a tired sigh.
“I’ll try,”
He bowed his head, bobbing it like a spring doll. “Thank you,” With that he finally left me alone. He was beginning to get on my nerves.
I knocked on the large, teak-wood door. It was painted a rich, maroon color. I heard some shuffling inside the apartment. There was a loud crash sound of some glass item breaking apart. After waiting outside for several minutes, the door’s knob finally twisted open.
Jay was standing in the narrow opening of the door. He was wearing a white undershirt which clung to his thin figure. A pair of grey sweatpants hung low on his waist. He looked a really tired maybe it was because he just woke up. His black hair lay in a tousled mess.
He lifted his neck to look at me. Surprise was visible on his face. “Aulaura, I wasn’t expecting you here?” His voice sounded lower than usual, a bit coarse.
“Came to return your phone and jacket,” I held up his jacket.
He let out a relieved sigh. “All night I was looking for my phone. Thank you for bringing it back,” He took them from my hands.
“No problem,” I smiled.
“Come in,” He stepped aside, gesturing me inside. “Have some tea? I’ve just made some,”
I waved his offer off. “No, sorry I’m kinda in a rush. I got to head straight to college,”
“Come on’-” Suddenly Jay staggered on his feet, he gripped the door tightly, shutting his eyes in the process.
“Are you okay?” I reached for his arm.
“I’m fin-“he started out. He gripped his head with both his hands dropping the phone and jacket onto the ground. Then it happened, he collapsed onto the ground. I caught his arm just before his body could hit the ground. Positioning him upwards, I wrapped my arms around his back.
“Jay, can you hear me?” I spoke, shaking his body a little.
No answer.
