Ch- 42 ★And the Curtains drop
Ch-42 And the Curtains drop
The hospitals lights and smell of antiseptic was almost unbearable. The only thing that made it slightly bearable was Jays hand wrapped around mine as the nurse finished tying the bandage around my thigh.
Xavier, Jake, and their entire gang had been taken into police custody. I had been rushed to a hospital nearby while Sam was being interrogated at the police station. I've been here for a couple hours or so and the doctors have taken out the bullets from my shoulder and thigh. It was a painful process since the doctors hadn't bothered numbing the area with anesthesia.
Jay and my parents had arrived at hospital half an hour ago. Mom and Dad were relieved that I was okay and were currently filing out the hospital forms and making payments.
On the other hand, Jay hadn't utter a single word since his arrival.
He stood by side, patiently, his lips pressed into a thin line.
The nurse handed me some painkillers. Finally they acknowledge the pain I'm in. I quickly swallow the tablets and wait for them to set into action.
The nurse turned her head to speak with Jay. "Sir, make sure she sits upright, laying down won't help the blood flow."
Jay gave her a curt nod, his eyes shooting daggers through me.
Once the nurse was out the door, Jay's hand left mine. He was raging full on, the brown in his eyes darkened, his jaw tightened. I swear there was a nerve twitching in his forehead.
"I'm sorry," I smiled meekly.
"Sorry? You're sorry. God damn it, you're sorry," He ran his hand through his hair, tousling them in even further.
"I wanted to save you," My heartrate quickened. "I love you, Jay."
For a moment, he seemed to be at a loss of words to say. He looked dazed. "Are you kidding me?"
"No, I really do love you."
He shook his head, frustrated. "You would risk your life for me,"
"I'm willing to die for you — I had really meant it,"
"I don't want you to die for me. I want you to live, Aulaura. Because of me, you would have died today. Do realize what I would have done if something happened to you?"
His skin had paled significantly. Almost as though Jay had seen a ghost.
"I said I'm sorry?"
"Sorry doesn't cover it," He breathed out and gripped my shoulders tightly. I could see fear, panic crowd his eyes.
"You did the same thing for me. When my parachute had punctured, you risked your life for me."
"I didn't have a choice then. You were going to die instantly if I hadn't done something. With Jake threats, I wasn't going to die. I was going to rot in jail but I wasn't going to die."
"What? You think that was a better option?"
"This scares me, Aura. You're reckless, completely wild. You don't think twice before doing something completely dangerous. What's wrong with you?"
I sighed. "There's nothing wrong with me. I just wanted to save you. Like you once said, we're alike. I know you would have done the same thing,"
There was a loud knock on the door, interrupting whatever Jay was about to say.
"Come in," I yelled, relieved to be saved from Jay's lecture.
The police officer, who had interrogated me when Sam had been injured, walked in. Sam trailed behind him, tired and weary. She gave me a small smile. I smiled back warmly at her. How badly had I missed judged my sister. If Cassidy hadn't told Sam about my plan, I would still be with Jake's gang. I'm glad that Cassidy didn't listen to me and got Sam involved. They had been keeping track of me on using the GPS signaling device. When Cassidy's PI told Sam about my whereabouts, she instantly rushed to find me.
I turned my attention back to the police officer who was now standing at the foot of my bed. His broken, glob like nose looked even more hideous now that he had lost some weight. It stuck out more against his thick mustache. "Aulaura Grey,"
"Officer," I replied, unable to hide the detest from my voice.
"Pleasant to see again,"
"Unfortunately, I can't say the same," I hadn't forgiven him for stirring doubts in the mind of people around me. Even though I was as guilty as charged, I hated him for making me feel so scared and vulnerable.
"This time I come to thank you on behalf of our entire police and detective units. Because your emergency transistor, we were not only able to capture your kidnappers but we able to arrest their entire gang. I'm sure you're not aware but those men are the most deadly assassins London had seen in a while. We have been on their tail for the last seven years. Unsuccessful we were in our efforts, you and Samantha Grey have single handedly managed to outwit them,"
The police straightened his back. "I salute you and your bravery,"
I shared an incredulous look with Sam. "Why, thank you! I honestly don't know to say."
"I shall take your leave now miss."
The police officer exited the room.
I jumped off the bed and hugged Samantha tightly before Jay could stop me. From Sam's shoulder, I could see Jay fuming- there goes the nurse advice about keeping constant blood flow.
"Thank you, thank you. Sam, you're the best sister in the whole wide world,"
Sam squeezed me back and pulled away. "Really?"
I nodded. "And I'm sorry for what I did,"
"It's in the past, Aura and I promise you Jay and I are nothing more than friends,"
Embarrassed, I felt heat crawl up my face. "I know that,"
She smiled. "It's good to have you back. Everyone was miserable without you."
"What can I say? I am the life of London," Jay raised an eyebrow, cocky much?
Sam laughed and punched my shoulder. "You haven't changed one bit. Okay, well I really need to call Matthew. This news is probably be all over the internet,"
"Oh, of-course," I threw a suggestive wink. She blushed scarlet. "So are you going to tell me or not?"
"About what?" She played a strand of blonde of hair.
"That my nun like friend has found a guy for herself. Since when have you two been seeing each other?"
"For a while," She shifted the weight from one to foot to another.
"Just go talk to him. We'll talk about this later," I teased her. "I can tell you can't wait," She quickly left the room, ducking her head. The poor girl was whipped.
As soon as Sam left the room, Jay picked me in his arms. "Whoa? Babe, what are you doing?" I asked as I wrapped my arms around his neck.
"I think you've had enough adventure for one day. No more getting out of bed,"
"Well, I have a condition,"
After placing me on the bed, Jay sighed. "What would that be?"
"You forgive me,"
"Fine, I forgive you. Promise me, you won't doing anything reckless ever again."
I gasped, feigning hurt. "What you call a reckless act has been commended as an act of bravery."
"Aura," He leaned closer, his breathed mixed with mine. For tantalizing second, I wanted to kiss him breathless. "Promise me,"
"I solemnly swear to not do anything reckless ever again. I promise to consult my boyfriend before attempting such an act,"
He reached out and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. "Good,"
"Can I kiss you now?"
His lips curled upwards into a devious smirk. "Don't ask me that ever again. Just do it,"
And I did. I pressed my lips against his. Slowly our breaths become one as his fingers slid down my arms and entwined our fingers together. My heart soared freely through the sky.
"All's well that ends...." I whispered against his lips. "well,"

Note: what a journey this has been. Thank you for sticking with me even when I didn't update for months. I know only a few readers are left and it is all my fault. I'm such an erratic updater. To be honest this book was very difficult for me to write. I had lost inspiration a long time ago but I kept going because of you. Yes, you. The one reading this right now.
Do you guys have any unanswered question left? Be sure to ask them.
Adios,
Tallara.
