Ch-4 ★Let Him In

Ch-4 Let Him In

[Aulaura]

“I’m Jay Walter,” He held out his hand for me to take. I was surprised that I wasn’t ogling my eyes out at him. Jay Walter- dark, brown eyes, black hair that put the night sky to shame, and that perfect subtle outlining his sharp jaw was what perfectly described him. He had his hands casually stuffed into the pockets of black leather jacket he wore while he stood in relaxed pose; his shoulders leaned back and his back straight as a pillar. Not to forget he was smiling at me. Jay Walter was smiling at me. I could jump fifty feet in air I was so happy and do a little clover-day dance.

I took his rough hand giving it a firm shake. “Aulaura Grey,” I grinned, my teeth probably putting on a show. I just couldn’t hide the smile building inside of me. The Jay Walter whose music I listened to 24/7 was in front of my eyes, talking to me. It’s like he had just popped out of a poster and ka-boom there he was.

Dad turned to face me. “Aulaura, I have to go attend some important clients. Can you please keep Mr. Walter company?” I had almost forgotten that my beloved (note the heavy use of sarcasm) was standing here next to me and I had just remembered he had introduced me to Jay as the future CEO of ‘the Innovation’. Why couldn’t he just let it drop? Every second I spent with him he would remind of my responsibility. I hated it. I was beginning to forget about everything with Jay here... until he brought it again. It’s like I couldn’t look at my father’s frekin face without being reminded of my horrid future .

He walked away holding his shoulders in a stiff stance ready to pounce on his next opponent as Mr. Smith, my father’s personal chauffer, followed him.  He stopped by a group of serious looking men and started talking to them with a grave expression.

“This is my friend Matthew,” Jay gestured to the curly haired boy standing next to him. He looked like a messy sort of fellow by the dirty stains on his shirt. Matthew gave me small wave.

I smiled back. He looked awfully familiar. I’ve seen his picture in many of Jay’s photos -oh yah was the drummer.

“Nice to meet you. I must tell you thou you know your drums. Those beats are wicked,” Matthew looked surprised.

He quickly covered his surprise by a small laugh. “So Aulaura Grey knows about me,”

“Of course I do. I’m a big Jay fan,” And that just slipped out of my mouth. Wait for it, wait for it and there it was – a tomato, red blush was now covering my cheeks. This is so mortifying.

Matthew let out an awkward cough raising his eyebrow at Jay who looked more flustered than me.

“It’s great that you’re our fan,” He smiled kindly at me giving Matthew a pointed look.

Matthew muttered something along the lines of “Not ours bro just yours and now what was that you said about not flirting with the Mr. Grey’s daughter,” He said just for Jay to hear but I caught on it too.

Jay gave him dig in his ribs with his elbow. “I wasn’t flirting,”

Then Matthew poked him back with his thumb. “Then what do you call that?”

“Making a civilized conversation something that’s not in your dictionary,”

“Dude that’s not fair I called dibs on her,” I didn’t like the sound of that. Seriously what were these two talking about....yah-I don’t think I wanted to know.

“Okay I’m just going to pretend I’m not here,” Both their faces snapped in my direction at the same time. They looked like two puppies embarrassed for chewing on the master’s shoe.

“Sorry about that,” Jay quickly controlled conversations and skillfully changed its direction “It’s a great honor to have Mr. Grey as our new sponsors,” He looked briefly at Matthew giving him a reprimanding stare. “I’ll try doing my best as the new brand ambassador of the Innovation,” What? Jay was our new brand ambassador. Why didn’t dad tell me about it? It’s not like he ever told me anything but still...

I quickly covered my shock (and happiness, Jay Walter was our brand ambassador how much better can this get!) “I know your association with the Innovation will be a huge advantage for us,” I had to at least act like the future CEO in front of him –not wanting him to get a wrong idea or anything.

“The cake cutting ceremony will begin soon,” Sam came next to me, standing by my side. “I say in about hour or so,”

“An hour is not soon,” from the corners of my eye, I noticed Jay tense up with Sam entrance. He clenched then unclenched his hands as his posture became rigid and stiff.

I think I should introduce Sam. “Samantha meet Jay and Matthew,” I said pointing towards the two boys standing right in front of me. “Jay and Matthew meet Samantha, my best friend and assistant,”

Sam looked at both of them her mouth slightly agape. “Sorry I hadn’t noticed you were talking to Jay Walters,”   The words rushed out her mouth. It was hard to understand what she was saying. “I didn’t mean to interrupt,” Jay smiled a bit though it seemed heavily forced on his part. Why was he acting so strangely around her? He was fine a minute ago.

“No, it’s okay Sam,” I gave her a reassuring smile. She relaxed a bit, staring at me with a look that said ‘details later,” I nodded.

“What kind of person doesn’t notice the world biggest rock star?” Matthew grunted.

“I hadn’t noticed Jay Walters over the bushy head of yours” My confident and witty Sam was back with a bang. “If that’s what you mean?”

Expression on Matthew’s face was priceless. His mouth was hanging open it would probably be touching the ground if we were cartoons. “My curls don’t look like a bush,” He ran his hands through his curls lovingly. The guy seriously loved his hair.

“I wasn’t talking about you,” Sam turned to look at Jay. Her eyes sparkled with excitement and delight. “I feel so fortunate to finally meet you in person. Your music is beautiful, “She beamed.

Jay tried smiling but his smile wavered. His brown eyes looked troubled as he trembled slightly. It wasn’t noticeable but because I was watching him so intently I could see it. Was he nervous or something? -Strange.

“I’m glad,” He said through gritted teeth.

Sam didn’t seem to be bothered by his strange behavior. She really couldn’t see his unease. Only I could see it. Something about his behavior reminded me the way Vivian, my ex-boyfriend would act around me. I don’t know why but he just did. Vivian would try to act distant and uncaring whenever we’d cross paths and I wasn’t even the one who had broken up with him. He’s the one who had dumped me for an unknown reason.

But the thing was Sam has never met Jay before, this was her first time then why was he acting this way?

“Your friend is mean, Aulaura,” Matthew complained like toddler except he was a stinking teenage boy who really needed a shower. “Where’s the food? Man, I’m starved,” He gripped his stomach.

Jay looked at him with his eyes wide in shock. “You just came from a restaurant,”

“That was a long time ago,” He grumbled.

“No, it was like what half an hour ago,”

“Well now I’m hungry,”

Jay shook his head. “Man you eat like a pig,”

Matthew looked genuinely offended. “You take that back,”

“I won’t,” he smirked.

“It’s okay guys,” Sam broke their childish fight. “I’ll show you where the food stalls are,”

Matthew looked at her with suspicion as if she was going to feed him to the lions instead of taking him to the food stalls. “Promise me, you won’t be mean,”

“What are you five?” She retorted.

He straightened himself up. “I’m twenty-two thank you very much,”

Exasperation covered her face. “You’re impossible!”

I placed my hand on Sam’s shoulder. “It’s okay, I’ll show him where the stalls are,” I looked at Matthew, smiling at him slightly. “Follow me,”

I walked through the crowds of people with Matthew trailing behind me. The guest looked at me, curiosity piping through faces. I ignored their glares and tried walking confidently through the crowd. I hated their stares; I hated being the center of attention it made me feel like an outcast.

I looked back and saw Sam trying to strike up a conversation with Jay who looked very uncomfortable with her. He responded to her with brief comments and small smiles. I wonder why he was behaving so strangely. Suddenly I bumped into one of the waitress; red wine was splattered across my dress as the wine glasses were shattered across the floor.

“I’m so sorry, Madame,” the waitress spoke as she ducked her head probably afraid that I was going to yell at her like most rich people did.

“It was my fault you don’t have to apologize,” I said as I looked at the mess on my dress. “Matthew, I’ll have to go clean up this mess,” I squinted my eyes at waitress nametag. “I’m sure Jessica here won’t mind showing you where the food stalls are,”

“Oh of course madam,” Jessica replied smiling at me

I smiled back at her. “Sure lead the way Jessica” Matthew spoke as he followed her

~*~*~

Standing in front of bathroom mirrors, I carefully examined the damage on my dress. I grabbed some of the tissue and dipped them in hot water as I began wiping the wine stains.

As I cleaned my dress, I heard some women whisper amongst them. One thing about high-class women was that they loved gossip. In this society gossip spread-out like a forest fire, once one tree caught onto the fire soon the whole forest will be burning down.

“Have you heard about the latest Grey drama?” the first women whispered. They were talking about my family at our party. Evil minds with dirty schemes were all these women were capable of doing and giving others a bad name. They paid more attention what was going around in someone else family than they did to their own. It was sick. I wonder what had caught their fancy now.

“No, Have you?” the second women spoke, sounding more interested than she should be.

“You know that ‘I have it all’, Amanda,” They were talking about my mom, Amanda. “I heard she filed a divorce against Charles,” No that couldn’t be true. My breaths became heavy and labored, I couldn’t breathe. My family couldn’t be breaking apart.

“Poor Charles, I don’t how he handled Amanda all these years. She’s so high maintenance,” They had no right to talk about my mother like that. She wasn’t the troublesome one; it was my father who created the trouble.

I walked out of the bathroom, the bathroom’s door smacking against the wall with a loud bang. The heads of the women snapped in my direction, they looked at me with horrified stares and lip glossed sneers. They had heavy diamond necklace clinging to their scrawny necks. I advanced towards the first blond head women and punched her hard in the face as she yelped in pain. The second brunette looked at me with horror like a fish out of water.

“Next time think twice before pointing a finger at someone,” the blonde haired women sneered at me as her cheek had turned purple.

“You’ll regret this,” She spit at me.

“We’ll see,” I didn’t hear anything else, I ran away from there toward the back exist. I don’t know why? Was it because of fear?

My body was beginning to crumble. Tears streamed down my faces, I couldn’t control them. I had lost the ability to do so.

I had reached my limit. I pushed the exit door open before collapsing on the cold cement stairs.

Why? Why? This couldn’t happen. My parents they cannot break apart from each other. I had hoped that as long as we stayed together our family will someday finally be fixed but if mom and dad got divorced all hope will be crushed. They were ready to part ways but I wasn’t ready for this.

Your family is like broken glass. This was eventually going to happen you knew it. Your mother couldn’t keep on living with a man that didn’t love her anymore.

A voice inside my head said.

But at least when they were together, I still had hope that things could get better. I had hoped that one day our family would once again be together like it used to be but if mom gets a divorce that last beam of hope will shattered forever.

Deep inside you knew that would never happen. You’re just scared to face the reality. You’re a coward. COWARD!

The voice yelled

I tried stopping the voice but it kept on growing louder and louder. It was painful…

“What is the birthday girl doing here?” Another voice entered my conscious; it was deep, husky voice. It calmed my rapid thoughts and it soothed my pained heart.

I looked at the door to see Jay Walter standing there with a smirk on his face; his smirk vanished when he saw my tears.

Something changed that instant I could feel it deep inside. I had let him in. I had let him wipe my tears. I had let him give me hope. In the end, it was my fault that I let him break my heart when I could have stopped him from the very start.

Author’s Note: Yay I finished this chapter finally, phew.
