Later that evening Cameron was explaining how everything happened to Shawn, he couldn't help but cried at remembering the disappointment he saw in his parents' gaze.
Shawn tried his best to calm Cameron again, fighting internally against his wills to go at Cameron's house and talk, more likely to confront Gina but he knew it was counterproductive.
As the evening was settled, Karen returned and explained how her visit to Gina went.
"At first she tried or pretend that nothing happened, she avoided my eyes the whole time, when I realised she wouldn't open up easily I asked about Cameron's university and that's when she broke down" Karen said, Cameron felt guilty to be the reason of his mother's tears.
"And she told me that Cameron came out to their family today, she told me Dan's reaction and she sounded upset, sad... confused more than anyth-"
"Disappointed... on me" Cameron interrupted.
"No, Cameron. She's not. You need to understand her. Maybe she didn't paid much attention on you or had this image of you as her straight son but that doesn't make you a disappointment"
"She kicked me out Karen" Cameron raised his tone.
"Don't let it win over you Cam, stay calm" Shawn said wrapping his arm around Cameron. They were sat down on the couch. "Sorry" Cam muttered.
"As a mother I can tell you that it is in fact a bit shocking. Fortunately I could noticed the hints early and talked with Manny way before Shawn open up with us"
"When Shawn and..." Karen stopped talking for a brief of a second. "When Shawn came out it wasn't a surprise anymore. People take things differently. We saw that coming and we were ready to support them... him. To support Shawn at the moment" Karen stumbled a bit with her words but Cameron was confused with his thoughts to notice.
Shawn was glad for that, it wasn't the time yet. "Then what happened mom?"
"Then when she started to imply that Cameron's sexuality is going to ruin his chances of career and I stopped her. I'm sorry Shawn but I had to tell her that you are also gay"
"It's okay mom.. I don't hide it from anyone but I also don't go telling everyone either"
"I know, I'm sorry. But I've found ridiculous to think that people's sexuality can ruin their future" Karen said truthfully.
"What did she said?"
"She was surprised when I told her that no matter of your preferences are nothing stopped you to become the independent man you are now, and how proud you make us every day"
"I wish my parents were half supportive as yours" Cameron said quietly. "They will, give them time" Shawn tried to comfort him.
Cameron chuckled in disbelief. "The thought of a stable family was broken time ago, it all fell down when my father asked the divorce. It was hard for my mom to recover from that. I still believe she haven't date anyone by the hope that my father will come back to her. And now me, it all went downhill again. Dysfunctional"
"It won't help if you keep thinking in that way, there's no such thing of perfectly family Cameron" Shawn stated.
"But your family accepted way before you told them"
"Not... not all the hardships are related to a child's sexuality or a divorce papers Cam"
"We all got struggles, and every single one faced those struggles the best way we could. But at the end we are a family and we help each other"
"Listen to her" Shawn said squeezing Cam's arm. Cameron smiled shyly.
"Gina will understand and accept you as who you are" Shawn reassured him.
"I'm sure I changed her view. She seemed understanding at the end. Your sister instead seemed to have no peace, she was calling you nonstop. Please talk to her, she was contemplating to call the cops"
"My phone is off but I'm don't want to go back there, not yet"
"Just call her and tell that you're fine, you can stay with us the time that you need but you'll have to go home at some point Cam" Karen said firmly.
"I know, thanks Karen. I really appreciate this" Cameron stood up and walk towards her for an embrance.
"I'm proud of you, my son-in-law" Karen whispered in the hug. Cameron was flushing by hearing those words. Somehow, he felt content with the idea.
After their conversation, Shawn suggested Cameron to call his sister so he can give her some relief. Cameron did exactly that, told her that he was alright but he wouldn't return home that night and probably neither the next couple of days. Sierra didn't agree with him at first but Cameron was convinced that he needed time and so their mother. He assured Sierra that he was staying at his friend's house, a friend that her nor their mother knew about. Before she could ask for more information he said his goodbye.

Cameron thought he would felt intrusive and out of place that night, but the Mendes made him feel part of the family, or something like that. They had dinner together, chatting casually not mentioning the reason of why he was there, he loved that. His mind was occupied with thoughts and remembered his parents reactions in time to time.
Shawn's parents called the night early and let them some time alone, Aaliyah instead took the opportunity to ask several questions about their relationship, Shawn told her some details and the younger Mendes was excited by every memory Shawn and Cameron made in the spare of few months, Shawn didn't know but hearing some of those memories helped Cameron to heal, not completely but made him realise that everything was worthy to have Shawn in his life.

The night wasn't the most peaceful of all, Cameron couldn't sleep and some tears escaped from his eyes while Shawn hugged him tightly. It was very late that night when Shawn noticed that Cameron fell asleep.
Around eight in the morning Cameron started to move slightly in Shawn's embrance. He wrapped his arm a bit tighter, hoping that Cameron would return to sleep but the boy in his arms was full awake already.
"You okay?" Shawn said whispering.
"Much better like this" Cameron buried his face on Shawn's chest.
Shawn chuckled and kissed the top of his head. "You can stay right here as much as you can but my mom-"
Knocks on the door interrupted Shawn.
"Breakfast is ready boys" Karen said from the other side of the door.
"My mom will wake us for breakfast" Shawn said. "In a minute mom"
Cameron smiled and they stayed in bed few minutes more.
-
After they had a full course breakfast, Shawn told Karen that the best for them was to go to his flat, since Cameron left spare clothes there from the several times he had slept over, also contemplating the chances of Gina to come over for a visit and the risks that it takes to be there if that happens.
Karen understood and agreed with him, she told Cameron that she was there for anything that its needed and letting him know that there was going go be a place for him at her house. Cameron thanked her numerous times before leaving.
By the time Shawn and Cameron arrived to the flat, Cameron felt in his safe zone in the act. He excused himself for a shower and laid on Shawn's bed afterwards to finally be able to sleep peacefully for hours. Shawn of course let Cameron to have his time. He laid next to his boyfriend for a quick rest too.
-
When Cameron opened his eyes again, he noticed the lack of daylight entering the room. He glanced through the window and noticed it was already night time and Shawn was no longer next to him.
Cameron checked his phone while he was brushing his teeth and found several messages from Matt and Hayes asking where he was at, phone calls from his mom and a long message from Sierra saying that his mom was regretful and wanted him to return home. He shook his head and decided to ignore, he replied to his friends and told them that he will visit them any time during the week.
Cameron walked into the living room to find Shawn's couch without its pillows, the door of the balcony wide open and the lights on.
"Hey, sleep well?" Shawn startled him coming from the kitchen. Tray full with glasses, wine and napkins on his hands.
"Yeah" Cameron replied, a bit confused by what he woke up to.
"I was about to wake up you actually, dinner is ready" Shawn said walking next to him not before pecking a soft kiss on Cam's lips. Shawn continued his path to the balcony and Cameron followed suit.
Shawn noticed Cameron's eyes wandering over the place with a smile on his face, Shawn couldn't held in anymore and pulled Cam closer to kiss him tender ever so softly. He knew that the kiss meant so much for them two, was him giving willing to support Cameron no matter what and it was for Cameron to feel secure in his arms.
"Remember our first night together?" Shawn asked walking behind Cameron to hugh him, back to chest. "Yeah, I do"
"I thought tonight was a great night to have our dinner outside, with the lights of the city, moom and stars as our perfect view" Shawn said. Cameron turned around for another kiss. "It's the perfect night for that"
-
After their dinner and half bottle of wine, Shawn and Cameron were seated on the rug between the pillows, soft music was playing from inside of the flat. Cameron was resting his back on Shawn's chest again, his face tilted to the side so they could talk eye to eye.
"Mom wants me to go home, Sierra texted me saying she was sorry"
"And what did you replied?"
"Nothing, If I go home tonight it would seem that I'm going back because she forgave me and I'm not looking for her forgiveness, there's nothing wrong with me right?"
"Of course not Cameron, nothing at all" Shawn said leaning in for a kiss, soft pecking on Cameron's lips. "Perfect and mine" Another kiss.
"Then she can wait, I'm just fine here. With you" Cameron said. Even though he wanted to fix things with his mom, he needed this time with Shawn, just the two of them.
"I couldn't agree more" Shawn replied.
Cameron sighed seconds later. "I'm going to miss this when I'm in college, going to miss you so much, after seeing each other every day of school to probably months without that"
"I will miss you more but hey, there's no chances for me staying away from you for a month. Not really"
"What? How are we going to do then?" Cameron asked, a bit curious.
"I'm going to visit you on weekends" Shawn said happily.
"I'm not saying every weekend because you'll probably have activities in the campus and something can show up here too but whenever we both have free days I'll drive to Toronto" Shawn smiled at Cameron.
"R-really?" Cameron's was smiling too, surprised nonetheless.
"Really! I'll drive all way to see you every friday and return on sundays. Will go to your games if I can too"
"I can't believe this" Cameron pulled Shawn for a kiss. "And I promise if there are times that I can visit you here I will. But I can't believe you're willing to do all of that for me" Cameron kissed Shawn again, enthusiastically.
"There's nothing much I wouldn't do for you Cam".
