Chapter 9: Getting Restless and Accidental Answers

Once Jumin was dressed, he walked back out to see his assistant sitting down on her bed... crying. Her glasses were placed carelessly next to her and her hands were laid in her lap. "A-Assistant Kang?" Jumin asked in a nervous tone, walking towards her. Jaehee looked away from him, unintentionally whimpering. Jumin reluctantly sat down next to her. "What's wrong?" He asked in a more soothing tone. Jaehee shook her head. "N-Nothing's wrong..." She said with a sigh. "I feel stupid, crying like this... i-in front of you..." she said, refusing to make eye contact. Jumin shook his head. "It's normal to cry. Please... tell me what's bothering you..." he asked. Jaehee took a deep breath. "Nothing is bothering me. Its just... you said I'm important to you, and that I'm more then an assistant," she let out a small laugh. "It meant... a lot that I seem to have more purpose to you then to just be an accessory that does paperwork." She said. Jumin smiled to himself, unsure of what to say.

"I'm going to get dressed." Jaehee said, grabbing a pair of pyjamas and heading to the washroom. She shot Jumin a small smile before closing the bathroom door. Click. It locked. Jumin let out a breath of relief. "I think I'm getting somewhere with this..." he whispered to himself, staring out at the balcony. The door to it was slightly ajar and a cool breeze swept in, along with the sounds of the nighttime streets. He got up and shut the door, just as his assistant came out of the bathroom. She was wearing a tight black nightgown with long, see through sleeves. Jumin quickly flicked off the light nearest to him so that she wouldn't see him blushing. She looked up at him and smiled. Her cheeks were still red and eyes were still puffy from crying, but she was now content.

After the two got in bed, neither of them could sleep. Jumin just stared at the ceiling. He could hear Jaehee tossing and turning, the silky covers brushing against the mattress and his assistants restless body. At one point, Jumin turned to look at the alarm clock seated on the bedside table next to him. 3:04 am. "Great." He muttered. His voice was barely a whisper. He sighed, looking back up at the ceiling. He thought about what would have happened if he hadn't caught Jaehee when she had jumped down. She would have hit the sidewalk, it wouldn't have been pretty. An ambulance would be called. Jumin's father would find out. The RFA would find out. Jumin wouldn't have been forgiven, he would have probably been blamed for her death.

"Mr. Han?" Jaehee's soft, whispering voice interrupted his passed-tired thoughts. "Mr. Han, are you awake?" Jumin turned to look at his assistant. She had the covers pulled up to her mouth. Her brown eyes glistened as the nearing day sky shone in through the glass surrounding the doors to the balcony. Jumin nodded. "Yeah, I'm up." He whispered. "Why? Are you okay?" "Well..." Jaehee sighed, shifting under the covers. She pushed them away from her face. "I have a question for you, it's nagging at the back of my head. I don't think I will be able to sleep unless I ask of you to answer it." She said, her voice slightly louder. "Okay, ask away." Jumin said. Jaehee closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. "What would you have done if I had fallen and you hadn't caught me?" She asked, opening her eyes once again. The hard part was over. She had asked the question. Jumin bit his lip. "Do you want an honest answer?" He asked her. Jaehee nodded. "Please."

Jumin looked to the ceiling again, closing his eyes. "I would have panicked at first..." he started. He thought about what he had imagined when he had let his tired mind take over. "Probably shaken you, yelling out your name repeatedly, begging you to wake up." He imagined it as he explained. "I... I know I would have cried." He admitted. Jaehee never spoke, but her silence was beckoning him to continue. "I would have broken down..." he chose his words carefully, not wanting to sound stupid. He looked at his assistant for a quick second, then looked back up at the ceiling. "Probably swore. I'd be feeling too many emotions all at the same time. I wouldn't have been able to function because..." he held his breath. He wouldn't cry... would he? "Because I would have known it was my fault." He watched as the ceiling turned to a watery blur. "Mr. Han..." Jaehee whispered. Jumin closed his eyes tightly together, a few small tears streaking down his face. He suddenly felt something wrap around him. He opened his eyes. Jaehee.

She was hugging into him. "I-I'm sorry!" She said. "I d-didn't mean to make you cry!" Jumin chuckled at his assistants regretful behaviour. "It's fine. Try to get some sleep now, okay?" He said. Jaehee moved away, nodding. Jumin caught a glimpse of a pink tint on her cheeks. He tried to rule it off from where she had been crying earlier, but that was hours ago. She was blushing. Jumin blushed himself, rolling over on his side. 'I made her blush~~ aww, she's so cute when she gets like that!' He thought. He was finally able to get some sleep.

Although Jumin had told her to get some sleep, Jaehee couldn't. Her mind was whirring. 'He would have panicked? Sworn? Begged for me to awaken? Broken down? Cried? Over... over me? I'm only his assistant... no. He said I was more then an assistant...' Jaehee looked over her shoulder at her boss who was back on to her. 'What does he mean by more then an assistant?' She thought, sighing as she laid her head back down on her pillow. Her brown hair tickled at her nose, so she moved it away from her face. 'Friends? Best friends? L-L... Lovers?!' Jaehee shook her head. 'Ah! No! Stop it! Mr. Han would never think that of you!' Jaehee thought to herself, burying her blushing face into her pillow. "J-Jaehee..." Jumin whispered. Jaehee looked up. "Y-Yes Mr. Han?" She asked. No reply. She sat up in bed. "Yes, Mr. Han?" She said a little louder. No reply. "Must be muttering in his sleep..." Jaehee whispered to herself, lying back down. She rolled over onto her side once again. 'I need to know what he meant by more then an 'assistant.' He couldn't possibly mean something... more then friends... could he?' Before Jaehee could come to a conclusion, Jumin's voice perked up again, giving her an answer.

"Marry me, Jaehee."

"WHAT?!"
