Chapter 7
"Call me HBIC"
-Daya
----------
This past week Mr. De La Cruz made it his mission to make me complain about my work so I can quit.
He made me fold his socks, organize his ties by color and pattern, dry clean two hundred fifty of his suits, and vacuum his cars with a hair dryer.
Everything he made me do will never compare to the mental and physical abuse I had to endure at in New York.
"Ms. Carter, to my office now "
He has called me to his office about ten times today and they've all been a waste of my time. I put a fake smile on my face and went to his office.
"Yes Mr. Cruz"
"I have a meeting I have to attend in one minute and you're coming with me"
I just stood there in shock. I told him about this meeting ever since Tuesday. He had three days to tell me I'm going to attend with him so I can be notified.
I nodded my head and took out my notepad I brought in with me. I saw him sigh in disbelief as he saw I was somewhat prepared for the meeting.
He has been trying to catch me off guard ever since I came here. I'll be damned if he catch me lacking.
"Are you ready to leave Mr. Cruz? Because I've been ready for a while now"
He glared at me then got up. I love how I can easily get under his skin. No matter what he has in store for me I'm always two steps ahead.
We just took a right, a left, a left, a left, a right, a left and a left and we were right there.
"Before we go in there I want you to please control yourself. There's a bunch of men in there and I don't want you getting wild thoughts. Don't do anything stupid"
"You're telling me don't anything stupid when you're always picking up random women off the street to give you head in your car. Not to mention you invite the 'good' ones to your office to top you off while you're in a meeting"
He looked at me in shock. Maybe he didn't know that as his secretary I'm in charge of knowing his every move. All the dumb shit he does on a daily embarrasses him, me, and his company. But hey if he doesn't care then it's none of my business.
"Did you forget that I'm your boss and you can't talk to me any type of way? Because I won't hesitate to fire you"
"I'm so sorry for bringing your flaws into the light Mr. De La Cruz. It won't happen again"
I said in my business voice. I threw him a fake smile making him glare at me. He mumbled under his breathe and opened the door where the meeting was being held.
The moment I walked into the room everyone went mute. The room was full of old white men and some middle age white men. Their mouths hung low as they watched me walk to my seat.
The melanin in my skin does that to the people without melanin. They just look at me in awe.
A throat cleared causing all the men to snap out of their gaze. They all faced Mr. Cruz and adjusted their ties.
Maybe it's because my hair is in a huge afro.
The first few days of working at the office I wore my hair in buns and low puff ponytails. The moment I got used to my environment my hair was out in an afro.
Since that might be the problem I took the rubber band that was around my wrist and put my hair in a high puff. It's basically a controlled afro.
"So, are you going to introduce us to this beautiful young lady?"
"This is Ms. Carter, my secretary"
"Hello darling"
The man next to me said. He picked up my hand and laid a kiss on the back of my hand. Mr. Cruz watched me in anger as he looked at the man and I. I slowly pulled my hand away and laid it on my lap.
"Instead of you kissing up on my secretary why don't you tell me why my company is losing two million dollars a day"
The room became silent again. I got out of my seat and started passing the company report that was in my purse. I could feel Mr. Cruz's eyes on me. I bet you he didn't expect me to make copies of the company's status and bring them everywhere with me just in case of times like this.
Everyone took a look at the paper and sucked in a deep breath. The company has lost ten million dollars in total this week.
"We were doing the best we could to regain the money but we couldn't. We don't see where the problem is coming from"
"Does anyone see where the problem is? SPEAK NOW! If no one here comes up with an intelligent solution by the end of the meeting all of you are fired"
Everyone erupted in an uproar. They started shouting out a bunch of dumb stuff like cutting the building in half and only making it two floors.
How is three thousand workers going to fit on two floors? That means he needs to fire ninety five percent of his workers.
"Maybe if you stop spending your money on prostitutes then the company will have more money"
One guy whispered to himself. The room became quiet yet again. I looked at Mr. Cruz and he looked furious. He got out of his seat and walked up to the man.
"Can you repeat that for me please? It sounds to me like you're talking about how I spend my personal money on my personal interest. What I do have nothing to do with you"
"I'm sorry sir, please don't fire me"
With two snaps of his fingers a bodyguard, that I didn't even notice was standing in the corner of the room, came and took the man away.
"Does anyone else have something dumb to say? I don't mind firing everyone in this room"
"I think it has something to do with the shipments"
I say above a whisper. I feel everyone look at me in shock. Some of them rolled their eyes as if what I was saying wasn't important. Mr. Cruz looked at me in confusion.
"Can you please elaborate on that"
I nodded my head and took out a paper that had all the company's shipments on it. I got up and walked to the front of the room where a random PowerPoint was set up. I minimized the page and signed into my account.
I may or may not have created a PowerPoint about each department of the company. I was extremely bored and all out of work to do.
"We have about two thousand companies all around the world that ships things to us. The amount of money we're spending on shipment each week for two specific countries is too high. France charge us one million dollars for shipments of car parts. That's five hundred thousand dollars more than they charge any other company. It's the same thing with Russia. They actually charge us five hundred thousand dollars more also for their products then they charge other companies. If you do the math we should paying one million dollars for each countries shipments not one million dollars for both shipments. We can fix this problem easily. Make a phone call to the boss of the company and demand they change their shipment charge for us and make it like everyone else's. De La Cruz inc is a very big aspect to their company since we always promote this business. I doubt they would turn down our suggestion. That's all thank you"
I shuffled my feet and went back to my seat. I started picking at my nails afraid that I wasn't suppose to speak for that long.
"That's what I'm talking. How come none of you guys noticed that? You all should thank Ms. Carter because she's the reason why all of you still have your jobs"
Everyone started thanking me and saying how much they owe me. I kept that in mind and took a mental picture of all of their faces. In case I don't have money for lunch they owe me a meal.
As the meeting went on I felt Mr. Cruz's eyes on me. I ignored his stares and continued taking notes as the person who was talking went to talk on about the company's problem.
When the meeting was over everyone sprinted out of the room afraid Mr. Cruz would change his mind and fire them.
I packed up my things and picked them up, ready to go. I was about to walk out but I ran into his chest. I backed up and looked up at him in confusion.
"Is there a problem Mr. De La Cruz?"
"Your dress is too tight"
Was all he said. I looked down and saw nothing wrong with it. It was the same black dress I wore to the job interview. It wasn't a problem then so why is it a problem now.
"Please elaborate on why you think my dress is too tight"
"I don't need to explain myself. You're not allowed to wear that dress again. If you do wear it don't even bother coming into my office because you'll be fired"
"I don't understand what the problem is. Marseille and I have on the same exact dress"
"Marseille is as flat as a piece of paper. You have big boobs and a fat ass. The whole time you were talking the men were looking at your body. You're a distraction to the work environment"
So this is what it's about. My body being too curvy and full. He can kiss my ass because I'm still going to wear whatever I want. But, I of course couldn't tell him that. He's my boss.
"Thank you for addressing your concern with me Mr. De La Cruz. I will go shopping today and buy some robes for me to come to work in. I'm clocking out now. Have a good day sir"
I said. I turned around and walked out. After I clocked out I stopped a taxi and hopped in.
Today has been a long ass day for no reason.
