Chapter 3: Tedious

I split this into two chapters because I wrote more than I expected. Enjoy.

Jin walked into his new office trying hard but kind of failing to not think about his last encounter with his boss. He walked toward his desk with a slight smile on his face, shaking it off, determined to at least try to make his new work a good experience. So what if he wasn't getting the best vibes from the C.E.O. He'd just focus on his work without bothering him as much as he could.

"Good morning Jimin." He politely greeted the younger male who was standing at his desk doing something on his phone.

"Oh, morning Hyung!" He greeted back somewhat energetically and looking up from his phone.

Jin smiled at the honorific, walking around to the front of his desk, placing his suitcase on top of it. He suddenly felt a hand grab his shoulder from behind and jumped slightly, pushing it away instinctively with a bit more force than intended, stumbling back a little, bumping his desk chair and sending it rolling into the open walkway. Hobi, who was walking in their direction, caught it before it sailed into the next set of cubicals across the way.

Jin looked over to see Taehyung behind him watching him with wide eyes and a slightly shocked expression. He then looked around to also see Hobi and Jimin giving him matching looks.

"Jin, are you alright?" Hobi then asked, abandoning the chair and walking over to them.

"Oh, uh, yes you just startled me a bit." He smiled weakly toward Taehyung.

"Are your sure, you had quite a reaction?" Jimin pointed out. "Your shoulder isn't hurt in anyway is it?"

"What? No, like I said I was just a little surprised." Jin assured them.

"okay, well maybe we are all a little too used to being close with one another, but Jin is new, so let's try not to do any sudden contact he's not used to, Okay?" Hobi smiled at the group.

"I'm sorry Hyung, honestly I am, I didn't know, I just wanted to greet you like I do with the others, I'm really sorry." Taehyung started profusely, pouting a little in guilt.

Jin smiled a little more genuinely at him. "It's alright Tae, don't worry about it I'm fine. I'm sorry for pushing you."

"No, no it's totally okay, my fault, I won't do it again! Promise." He stated sounding determined, before sitting in his chair.

Jin smiled at his energetic nature.

They then suddenly all looked over as they heard a slight bump followed by a grunt and a voice cursing quietly.

Jin widened his eyes when he realized it was Namjoon who had walked straight into his misplaced chair. He felt a bit of panic at the fact that he'd just caused his brand new boss to trip and quickly moved over. "N-Namjoon-sir." He stuttered grabbing his chair and quickly sliding it back under his desk. "I-I'm terribly sorry, I should have moved it right away."

The man simply clicked his tongue, picking up his phone, which he'd dropped in the process and inspecting it for damage. "Yes, you definitely should of, this carelessness is unacceptable-!" Namjoon snapped but stopped his harsh words when he finally looked up to see it was Jin.

The older male kept his eye contact out of curtesy, but felt himself shrink a bit, feeling his face burn slightly in embarrassment as a few people looked over to the scene.

Namjoon then took a quick breath, looking away from the other's desperate stare. His voice was still not amused but less angry. "Seokjin I understand you are new, but here we keep our office space well organized to avoid accidents like this, so please make sure something like this doesn't happen again, understood?"

"Y-Yes sir I completely understand." He bowed slightly to him.

"Good." He looked around at the others, who stood and bowed to greet him. He did the same back to them, before straightening his suit and walking off without another word.

"Ah man..." Jimin sighed scratching the back of his head in a few quick motions. "After yesterday I thought he'd be less strict, but I guess he was just being more chill because we got a new employee, he's back in a bad mood." He plopped back down in his chair.

Hobi simply smiled brightly. "We should be used to it at this point, let's just continue getting our work done."

Jin slowly sat down, taking a deep breath to calm his nerves. He slapped both of his cheeks lightly to snap himself out of it. Come on Seokjin don't let this handsome face falter! He then started focusing on his work to distract from the bad start to his morning.

It was about halfway through the day, and Jin was feeling a lot better, he simply was completing his tasks, with Hobi's help of course, but he was catching on pretty quickly. He just finished filling out a report on his own when the phone on his desk suddenly started ringing. He still wasn't familiar with the in-office line numbers, so wasn't sure who was calling, but he figured he'd better answer anyway. He picked it off the receiver, pressing the button to answer it properly. "Hello Seokjin's desk, how can I help you?"

"Seokjin." The deep voice stared on the other end.

Jin automatically stiffened as he recognized it. "Namjoon sir, why are you contacting me?"

"I need you to come to my office right now." He stated his order simply. "Don't keep me waiting I hate people who doddle." The line then went dead.

Jin looked at the phone in annoyance, before returning it to its place. He stood up, taking the report with him, and pushing his chair in. Before turning to walk to the C.E.O.'s office. While on his way he ran into Hobi.

"Ah, Jin. On your way to lunch?" He asked him. "Want to come with Jimin Tae and I?"

Jin smiled at him shaking his head. "I can't, Namjoon called me to his office." He then looked at the report in his own hands. "Actually, could you do me a favor and bring this to the purchasing department on your way out? They need it by today, but I have to go now."

"Sure thing!" Hobi took it happily. "I'll make sure it gets there, good luck with the boss."

"Thanks." Jin smiled before walking the rest of the way down the hall, nodding to Hana, who looked as if she was about to take her break, and seemed confused to see him there. He simply turned around, knocking a few times on Namjoon's office doors.

"Come in." He heard the voice on the other end chime immediately.

Jin opened one of the doors just enough for him to slide into the room, before closing it behind him. He slowly took a few steps forward. He looked at Namjoon who still sat at his desk in front of him, writing through some files on his desk. "You called for me sir?"

"Ah Seokjin, yes." He finished signing something before placing his pen down. "I have a task for you."

"Sir?" Jin was slightly confused as to why he had called him directly.

Namjoon simply stood from his desk moving in front of it, waving in the older's direction, ushering him closer.

Jin cautiously did as he was told, walking up to stand in front of him.

Namjoon turned to face him, causing the other male to take a step back away from him. He raised a brow at him. "Why step away Seokjin? Are you afraid I'll do something to you?"

"Certainly not sir." Jin replied before changing the subject. "What task do you have for me?"

Namjoon simply nodded slightly turning around to grab a slip of paper off his desk and handing it to him.

Jin looked down at it in slight confusion, there was a restaurant name on it and a food order.

Namjoon then handed him a credit card. "Go pick that up for me and bring it back to my office. And please be as quick as possible, I'm quite hungry."

"You're having me pick up your lunch?" Jin asked in confusion

Namjoon sat back down in his chair resting his elbows on his desk and folding his hands in front of him. "Yes." He stated like it was the simplest thing in the world. "If you aren't familiar with the area look the restaurant up on your phone, I'm sure you can find your way. And if you're tempted to buy anything else with my card along the way don't." He smirked confidently. "Cause I'll know."

Jin clenched his teeth a bit before making sure to speak in a calm voice. "Sir, I apologize if I'm overstepping here, but is this really included in my tasks here as a worker?"

Namjoon let off a chuckle leaning back in his chair and crossing his right leg over the other. "Of course." He shrugged. "Your job entails doing anything I ask you to, including this."

"I understand sir, then I'll be on my way." He turned around heading towards the door trying to keep his expression plain and emotionless.

"Oh and Jin." Namjoon stopped him as he was about to leave through the door. He smirked again when Jin turned his face to him. "Don't forget anything or I'll deduct your pay." He then waved towards the door indicating he could leave.

Jin bit his tongue slightly and left out the door to see everyone in the immediate area gone. He crumpled the piece of paper in his hands and threw it on the marbled flooring in frustration. Who the hell does he think I am? "I'm not some goddamn secretary." He muttered to himself. And I sure as hell didn't apply here with my experience to run out and get food. He crossed his arms with a slight huff, trying to ignore or justify the fact that he was acting slightly like a child. He then looked to the crumpled ball of paper on the ground and sighed. He uncrossed his arms and leaned down to pick it up unraveling it and straightening it out in his hands as much as he could. He looked at the note. Still... I can't afford to lose another job... He felt a sadness take over him before shaking it off and heading towards the exit, grabbing his phone and wallet from his desk on his way.

Jin stood in the line of people waiting to be seated at the far too expensive restaurant his new boss had requested a meal from. He couldn't help but feel a bit out of place as he looked around at the patrons whom probably had more zeros on their check than he had buttons on all his suit jackets combined. He had only been to a place like this a couple times in his life when he got lucky and even just the thought of the premium steak made his mouth water.

Don't think about it Jin, it'll never happen. He shook his head taking a few steps closer to the hostess, he was next. He was glad about it too; standing in the line in such close proximity to others was beginning to make him feel a bit hot and uncomfortable. She waved over a server who took two menus for the couple in front of him and led them into the dining hall. He finally stepped forward smiling politely at her. "Good afternoon miss, I'm just here to pick up this order." He handed her the slip of paper.

"Right of course, for Mr. Kim correct, he's a regular." She smiled a little brighter at him. "May I have your payment."

"Right, here you go." He handed her Namjoon's credit card.

She smiled graciously, sliding it through a machine, before handing it back to him with two hands and thanking him. "It'll be just a moment sir." She then walked off to the kitchen behind her.

"Jin?" Someone then questioned gaining his attention. "Seokjin?"

Jin looked to see someone he recognized as one of his old coworkers walk out of the dinning hall. "Suwon, it's been a while." He shook the man's hand. "What are you doing here?"

"Meeting a client, finally got that promotion, and you, I'm surprised you're still in Soul. No one's seen you since you resigned." He looked him up and down quickly.

Jin suddenly felt a little uncomfortable at the mention. "Yeah well I needed a short break, but I've got a new job now."

"I'm glad to hear you're alright, we've all missed you around the office. The boss always says it was a pity you left." Suwon continued abit more casually.

Jin's slight discomfort turned into complete anxiety upon speaking of his old workplace. He tried desperately to control his breath and forced a smile. "Y-Yeah, well things are going my way again now so..."

"Glad to hear it, but hey I'd better get back to the office, maybe I'll see you around then." Suwon smiled with a wave. "See you Seokjin."

"Bye." Jin replied bowing lightly as he left. He turned back toward the hostess's stand trying to make his mood appear normal despite feeling slightly terrified inside. He hated that what he experienced at his old company still affected him so much, and couldn't help but find Suwon's words, with the initial intent to be friendly and causal, come across, at least to him, as a bit more disturbing.

"Sir, your order is ready." The hostess's voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Oh uh thank you very much." He took the neatly filled and folded bag. "Have a nice day miss." He bowed his head to her.

"You too." She responded doing the same.

Jin walked around the crowd happy to be getting out of there finally.

Jin sighed as he had finally gotten back to the building and stepped out of the elevator to head toward Namjoon's office. As he passed through he noticed a couple people getting back from lunch, but ignored them and walked straight to his destination. When there he knocked on the door softly.

"Come in." Namjoon's familiar voice came from the other side.

"Your lunch has arrived sir." He stated as he walked into the room quickly making his way over to the desk and handing him the bag. He still felt awkward after the run-in with his coworker, and unconsciously refused to make eye contact with him.

"Thank you..." Namjoon trailed off giving him an odd stare. "Did something go wrong Seokjin?"

"Not at all sir." Jin replied simply folding his hands in front of him and staying in his stance in front of the other's desk, his eyes glued to the floor.

Namjoon continued to eye him suspiciously before getting out of his chair and circling around to stand next to him. He leaned in a bit closer trying to see his expression.

Jin simply looked away to the complete opposite direction before speaking quickly, "May I go now sir?"

Namjoon took a step back before giving a simple nod. "Mhm." He then watched as the new employee quickly turned around and left his office without another word.
