It was a beautiful Saturday morning, and the Juniper Pack was doing their end-of-month training. Alpha Charlie, now 23 and leading his pack for a year, was leading the advanced warriors in training. His sisters, Beta Elizabeth and Beta Guinevere, were leading the regular pack members in defense training.  His brothers, Delta Davis and Delta Zane, were showing the non-shifted pups in defense.  He smiled as he watched his younger sisters, who were now 9: Celeste, Victoria, and Olivia working together to defeat their older brother Davis.  He knew after training; they would have a packed picnic. Then head to the lake to swim.  They would have food trucks set up to feed the pack throughout the evening until the bonfire. Families would then take their pups to get ready for bed. The elders would watch the pups while the parents did a monthly pack run. When the parents got home, the elderly would head to bed. Then do their pack run on Sunday morning and end up at a diner in town for breakfast.

He was looking forward to it. He was showing how to throw a wolf who was clamped on doing a shoulder bite when all of a sudden, he grabbed his chest. He whimpered. He looked toward his siblings and saw them drop. He saw many pack members show pain in their faces. He noticed a few others were down. They sat down stunned. Then they all started to howl.

Alpha Charles knew his parents, Elder Jocelyn and Elder Hutton, plus his 13-year-old brothers, Scott and Zander, were dead. Plus, their four guards who had been with them. He felt their break. He managed to stay standing, but he fought the pain. He turned to his advance warriors, "Take my siblings and the guard's mates to the hospital wing. I am heading to my office to find out what the hell just happened."
