Niall's P.O.V
AT THE BOAT
Footsteps.
I reached for the knife I had hidden under my pillow. It had been in my sock, but after many strenuous attempts, I managed to grab it and put it somewhere easier to reach but still hidden from Lillian.
I held a tight grip on the knife's handle as the footsteps grew closer.
Then I saw Gilligan's head pop down the small hatch that lead down into this room. I released the knife and a deep breath.
"I'm just gonna start making dinner!" He announced with a smile and disappeared again. Shortly after his visit, his daughter arrived.
With a heat pack held to her neck. She climbed down the stairs and I could tell that it was a struggle.
"What did they do to you?!" I tried to sit up, but I apparently didn't learn the first time as pain shot up through my abdomen.
"Nothing, nothing. I got in an accident, nothing big." She sat down on her stool and shrugged off my question.
"A car accident?" She nodded slightly, "how?!"
Lillian looked up to the ladder and called her dad down. He scurried down the stairs.
"What's wrong?" He asked, worried.
"Nothing, I just wanted to tell you guys why I got in the car accident." He sat down with raised eyebrows, on the edge of the bed that I laid on.
"Manny called and he had some... difficult to swallow news." She gulped slightly after her words. What on earth could Manny have said to his best friend that would make her crash her car?!
"He has a new girlfriend." I gazed at her dad for moment, and our confused eyes met. We then turned back to Lillian, expectantly.
A deep breath.
"And it's Daya."
I sputtered at the news then gripped my wounds in pain. I did not expect that, what the heck Manny? How could he do this?
"Wait, is that bad? I thought you and Daya were still friends?" Gilligan questions and I realised that her dad obviously didn't know what happened. Lillian looked down at her lap and remained silent.
I reached over and grabbed one of her hands in comfort and to encourage her to tell him. It hurt but it was worth it.
After a few moments, she musters up the courage and tells him. About their relationship and our night at the club.
Gilligan is clearly shocked at both Daya and Manny. And, considering his light-hearted nature, it was strange and confronting to see him in such an angered state.
His hands that before sat loosely in his lap were now clenched and white with pressure.
He exhaled.
"Well... that would make me crash a car too." He joked and we all laughed. The tense atmosphere disappeared and he returned to making dinner.
After he leaves, Lillian turns to me. She holds a small smile on her lips as she looks at me and then down to our hands.
They were still entwined and I had no intention of undoing that.
"What did you do?" I asked her quietly, referring to where she'd gone after our brief kiss.
I immediately pushed the image out of my head. I couldn't think about that right now.
"Oh nothing just got your apartment back." She modestly shrugged. Following it with a laugh.
"How?" I asked, sceptically.
"That's a story for another day." She grinned and rubbed her thumb across the back of my hand.
I gazed her for a few moments, admiring her beauty, inside and out.
"Thank you, Lillian."
She shrugged.
"I'd do it for anyone."
"Really?" I questioned. Lillian was an amazing girl but I doubt anyone would throw their lives on the line to save a stranger. Or a murderer.
Lillian's eyes shifted upwards in thought.
"I would do it for my dad. And Charlotte and," She swallowed, "and Manny. Hell, maybe even mustard. But probably not someone I'd met just a week ago."
She looks at me.
"But that's exactly what I just did."
She spoke mostly to herself, with a tone of confusion and realisation of her own actions.
"I guess I'm just different." I joked but her strong gaze didn't falter.
"You are." She whispered before leaning closer.
I embraced the dejavu as our lips met.
I felt a petting zoo explode inside me, the butterflies escaping into every inch of my body.
Just as I deepened the kiss, we were interrupted with a loud tune.
A tune I recognised to be my phone and I groaned. Lillian at back, giving me space to answer it.
