A conversation in which everyone is talking but nobody is listening
Lillian's P.O.V
AT MANNY'S HOUSE
"Do you want this?" Manny held up half a colander. We were digging through his house for any of the crap I had collected over the years.
"Emmanuel Rodrigues, why on earth do you have half a colander?"
"It was a full one! But then I tried to use it and now it's half! The rest is probably in here somewhere." He ducked his head back into the cupboard and dug rapidly through the Tupperware.
"Don't bother, I'm good." I laughed at him, what a dork.
I stopped packing my books and stationery into a small box to stare around the living room.
I felt sick over leaving this place. It had housed me for so long and of course I'd miss seeing Manny every day.
I saw a faint blur move beside me but kept my eyes on the fold out couch that I slept on for the majority of my young adult life. It was surprisingly comfortable.
I could hear Mustard's small yaps through the back screen door and I sighed knowing I'd actually miss hearing it in the late hours of the night.
"Here." Manny handed me a framed picture.
It was of Charlotte, Manny and I on the day we went to get Mustard. We were young, hell Charlotte was only 17!
It was my favourite photo; our smiles practically consumed our entire faces and even lil baby Mustard was smiling. Well, his mouth was open.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah definitely, you'll need something to remind you of me every day."
"I'm gonna miss you, Manny." I leant my head on his shoulder and I felt his arm wrap around mine.
"You're still gonna see me. No more of this sad stuff! I think we're almost done!"
"Let's have a break." I huffed; running and throwing myself on my old bed.
"I hope you know you aren't taking this couch with you, you'll have to purchase your own bed. Maybe, Niall can help you break it in." He wiggled his bushy eyebrows at me and flopped on the bed beside me.
"Ew, no. Shut up. But on that subject, I heard along the grapevine that you've picked yourself up a little lady." I nudged him suggestively with my elbow.
"And where exactly along this grapevine did you hear this?"
"Ah, but 'tis a secret."
"Who told you?!"
"Who is your girlfriend?!" I challenged.
Nobody had actually told me, I noticed him staying up late many nights on the phone. One night I "accidentally" overheard and it was definitely a female friend.
"Stop changing the subject, we were talking about Niall!" He shoved me lightly, but considering how close I was to the edge; I rolled off the bed. I hit the ground with a thump and smacked my funny bone on a bar on the way down.
Three knocks interrupted Manny's uncontrollable laughter.
"What's going on here?" Charlotte made her own way into the room with a large bottle of juice.
"Manny just tried to MURDER ME, no big deal." I pushed myself up and walked over to the kitchen to get out three glasses,
"Oh hush. What's up with the juice, Charlottial?"
"Well, I was going to get alcohol but we gotta drive and I am a major supporter of like, staying alive, so I got juice!" She chirped and poured equal amounts into two glasses and half into one, "that one is yours, Emmanuel."
Manny pouted until Charlotte chuckled and topped up the rest of his glass.
"I came to help you guys pack!"
"Aw thanks! I'm pretty sure we're almost done, just the bathroom to go!"
"But... there's only 5 boxes out here? And three of them are labelled art"
"Well, I like art."
"You are art, my dear." Manny dramatically dragged his fingers across my jawline and fleeted towards the bathroom. "Chop chop, my lovelies! I need this girl out of my house!" He shouted with a faint British accent. Honestly, he was really weird.
"Aren't you glad you're moving out?" Charlotte joked, sipping her juice as we watched our friend dramatically throw toiletries out the door behind him.
"You don't even know." I replied, "Did you know that Manny's got himself a lady now?" I smirked while she gasped.
"What? Is it you?"
"What? No! I don't actually know who it is."
"Why not? It's secretly you, isn't it?"
"Charlotte, no! He won't tell me."
"I can hear you two gossiping gals over there." Manny announced, "And Lillian wishes she was with me." He stood up after removing all my toiletries from the bathroom. We all chuckled at his comment.
God, I'd miss him.
