Chapter 2
"So you want to go hiking and camping in the mountains for 'a few days' without adult supervision?" my mother asked, her brown eyes filled with curiosity.
"Yes, kind of", I replied with confidence.
She stopped to think about it for a second. I could tell what she was thinking about. She was wondering whether to trust me or not. I wiggled slightly under her intense stare. After an uncomfortable five minutes, she sighed. "I'll let you go with one exception", she began, straightening her back, "You have to bring the extra phone and portable charger so I can get in contact with you. Do you understand?"
I nodded quickly and gave her a big hug. I pulled away and gave her a kiss on the cheek before running up to my messy room. I pulled out my phone and went to the group chat with my friends. Hey guys, I texted.
As I waited for a reply, I read on my phone and sang quietly to myself. Not too long after, a ding went off and a text showed up on my phone. I clicked the notification and was brought to the group chat. Hey, what's up?, Bruno had texted.
Within thirty seconds of him sending that, everyone else began replying. I smiled as I got a few heart emojis, as well as a couple of smiley faces. So My mom said I could go. The thing is, she will be texting me through out the trip to check on me, I told them.
That's great! And I don't mind her texting through it, Myst said.
I smiled slightly at that. That's what I loved about Myst. She was so understanding. The rest of the gang texted back with similar messages. From there we started planning.
Two days later we were all packed up at the bottom of a mountain. "Are you guys ready?", Gabriella squealed.
"Of course we're ready gabby!" Antonio replied sassily.
Gabriella rolled her eyes and turned towards Bruno, Myst, and I. We looked at each other and nodded. Then, we started hiking up. When we started getting deeper into the thick woods, Bruno started acting weird. He jumped at the smallest things. "What's wrong?" Myst asked him when he started freaking out over a hole in his jeans.
He looked at her nervously. "Oh, not much.", he began looking around, "It's just that this forest is really creepy"
I looked around at the forest around us to see that he was right. Things were beginning to get super creepy. "He is right. Things are sure starting to be really creepy," Gabriella said, as if she had just read my mind.
I shrugged it off and sighed. "Maybe it's just our imaginations.", I reassured them.
The two of them looked at me skeptically before continuing up the rocky mountain. It soon started to get dark, so we settled down in a spot perfectly picked out by Antonio. This is what would really change things for the five of us.
