Chapter ten

((We're getting close to the end zone!))
Previously: I sniffled, I thought she hated me all this time... I-I guess she really does care about me... Damn it! Why didn't I realize this before! I hugged my sister tightly, not letting go.

I felt at peace for the first time. Slowly and eventually drifting off into sleep at last.

We finally landed in London the next morning. I took a deep breath as we walked off the plane, my head still clouded with thoughts. Does she actually really care about me?... I wondered, still puzzled.

However, there were more important things to worry about now, like (Name).
Ukraine and I took a cab to the hospital, I stared out the window blankly, my hands in my lap.
What's going to happen now? I wondered.

Ukraine had called Germany and a couple of the other countries to notify what had happened, so that people wouldn't get confused. England had offered to let us stay at his place, but after giving Ukraine a hard glare, she politely refused his offer.

When we finally arrived at the hospital. I immediately ran out of the cab into the building. Ukraine having to walk, since her badonka-donk prevented her from running.

"Good morning." The nurse greeted, "may I help you?"
I was about to demand to see (Name) at once, but before I could, Ukraine put her hand on my shoulder. Looking at me, I scowled softly but didn't say anything.
"Yes, we're here to see (Name) (Last name), she should have been flown in a few hours ago.

The nurse nodded, giving us a sympathetic look, causing a lump to form in my throat.
Just how bad is it? I wondered.

"Right this way. She just got out of surgery so she may not wake up until tomorrow." The women explained, her english accent was rather thick as she spoke, but it had some sort of calming effect as she led us to the room where (Name) was resting.

"We were afraid she wasn't going to make it... But luckily, she's managed to pull through so far." She continued, finding myself rather lost in thought as she spoke.
We finally arrived at her room. "She's in here, the doctor will be in to check on her in a little while."

I nodded and mumbled a thank you to her, before slipping into the room. Ukraine stood at the doorway, watching silently.

My breath hitched when I saw her. (Name)'s legs had been cut off to the knee, and were wrapped in heavy bandages. I guess they couldn't find a way to save her legs... Her hair and skin was now clean and dry, and she was in a baby blue hospital gown. Her head was wrapped in bandages as well, with one over her eye.

"(Name)..." I mumbled, not sure what to make of the situation. Her eyes were fluttered shut. The only sound in the room breaking the silence, was the steady beeping of the heart monitor, and her slow, even breaths as her chest rose and fell gently.

"(Name) I'm so sorry..." I spoke softly, although I knew she probably couldn't here me.
"I always thought I was fine by myself... I-I was selfish and only thought of what was best for me, I never have had to care for someone else... I shouldn't have yelled at you, I shouldn't have let you run away... I should've apologized... I just don't know what to say. I guess I'm just not a very good person." I mumbled, feeling guilt hovering over me.
Every moment of my life up to now playing through my head in a never ending slideshow. Every regret, everything, with no end in sight.

"And now because of me, you're like this..." I finished, looking at her through the tears that threatened to spill.

"I promise, I'll try and do better from now on. No, I'll do better from now on. I-I guess it'd be too much to ask for you to forgive me, but..." I sighed, taking her small, warm hand into my own.

I smiled softly, "please just stay with me..." I half begged, stroking her hand softly with my thumb.
I felt her hand squeeze mine softly, her eyes opened to small slits.

"M-mommy..."
