I decided to wait a bit longer, as I didn't want either of them to see me, crouching like a creep in the bushes. As soon as Rose had padded away, however, I noticed the cheery, friendly expression fell right off the tom's face, almost like a mask. I watched him roll his eyes, then smirk to himself. I continued to listen, as he mumbled to himself about how awful it was that he had to keep up this facade, as how could he love a feline such as her? 

He continued on to himself about how he had only intended to pretend until he had managed to get on the good side of our clan, but it had started to get out of paw, as she had become much more enamored with him than he had originally planned.
