Anatole Moncrieff was nothing if not inadequate. The only Slytherin in his family's long line of Gryffindors, it was as if he had been born for the simple reason to be an example to the younger generation, to never stray from the family for fear of becoming a disgrace. While many insisted he was not a disgrace, the feeling ran deep, as did many other feelings, all of them falling into the abyss that rested in the center of his chest, a feeling he had felt since youth that he hardly noticed it most of the time.

Alongside him in his house was golden boy, Theseus Scamander. Charming to a fault with an impeccable sense for fashion, he was a kind soul who tended to cling on to people like moss on rocks, and Anatole somehow found himself Theseus' new rock in the form of a Potion's competition, the two growing closer than either of them had ever expected.

But then the war and suddenly it's been years since Anatole and Theseus had even been in the same room, their names just whispers that caused their hearts to ache with a longing they couldn't heal. But their paths were destined to cross once again and the two found themselves working together for the Ministry in search of Anatole's brother and a radical group of Grindelwald's followers.

But times had changed them and they were far from the school boys they remembered themselves to be, and while their time reunited gave them the slight reprieve from the aching in their bones, their fates whisked them away again, taking yet another set of years away before they could even notice, and it seemed as though the two would never see each other again.

Yet with Grindelwald growing ever stronger, it seemed as though the fates had different plans for the two, connecting them once again in the face of adversity, staring down the abyss of darkness more empty than the ones in their hearts, searching for the light in their worlds that, for the longest time, were nothing but mostly void.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

Theseus Scamander owns my ass, full stop. But in all honesty, I love this boy so much, and so I couldn't resist giving him a fic (the first Theseus fic on this site cough cough) and I'm really excited for it, like, ya'll, I have a second book already ready for when the next movie comes in 2020. Speaking of, the title of this is half of the full phrase: Mostly Void, Partially Stars. This is based off of the first Night Vale novel, so no creds to me, I just realized it fit super well. But as you can see, I'm super invested in this, I'm terrible.

So! This book spans 22 years, as they are 16-17 in the first part, then post WWI in the second part, and in Crimes of Grindelwald in the third, and let me tell you, I'm very excited to write them at different stages of their lives to show how people change yet some things always stay the same and just, ah, I'm so excited!

Also, I know Tom is cast in my Remus Lupin fic, but you know what, we're just gonna go with it because it's different time periods, we're fine, besides I've had this casting planned for two years now, I always thought they all looked similar. Speaking of Remus Lupin fic...

This takes place in my Silver Linings Series, and while you don't need to read any of the others in the series to read this one, the characters from the other fics set within the Grindelwald Era will be making appearances and you can find characters from this appearing in those as well.
