Farewell (Diminishing Verse)
I wince when I hear the door slam
Should I go back or is time to lam?
Oh I must've forgotten who I am!
I walk away with the steps of a snail
Your words rupture my soul with a rusty nail
Hope is gone and my heart starts to ail
A tie that seemed too strong to shear
The only truth I ever wanted to hear
Became a deafening lance in my ear
From love I never wished to sway
To reunite I hoped for another way
Never have thought of a goodbye. Ay!
All I've left is attempt to be brave
A storm in my mind as I silently rave
Your voice still echoes when you whispered your ave
My tears escape when my journey is done
How foolish of me to think we were one!

Diminishing verse form is of unknown origin and has very few rules. In fact, the main rule is this: Remove the first letter of end word in previous line.
For example:
Line 1 ends with the word “grad”
And line 2 ends “rad”
Then, line 3 ends “ad”
Note: There are no rules for rhymes, syllables, poem length, stanza length, etc. Just a simple removal of a letter. That said, poets can also remove sounds if they wish like “braille” to “rail” to “ale.”
