6: The Date (Knj)

You were about to go for a blind date. You were already anxious to meet each other, let alone the reason being that you two didn't even know each other.

You pulled your Starbucks coffee cup out of the container in the car, while you put away your seatbelt and got out of the car. You wore decent jeans paired with a top, a muffler engulfing your neck while a beanie rested on top of your head. With a coffee cup in your hand and a pair of eyeglasses set on your eyes, you looked like the total definition of a nerd living next door.

You entered the place where the two of you had decided to meet up. Instead of it being a café or a restaurant, it was an open library café.

It wasn't weird, the thing was,

You were both writers.

That's somehow the actual reason why the two of you wanted to meet. Your interests matched, and when you saw that this guy was into reading and writing stuff, you were pretty sure you wanted to try this out.  Though you couldn't see his face, some privacy policies. But that just made the fact even more interesting.

This wasn't the first blind date you had tried however– you had done this with other men too. Some were too muscular for you, some were too short for you, some were too fair for you, some were too smart for you. Ignoring the appearances, their personalities were too much for you. Not that you were perfect either– they just didn't suit you.

Even though, you tried this whole date thing again just because of one person– your brother. Mostly boys who had their younger siblings going on dates were overprotective of their little sisters, but your brother ain't like that.

No naah no.

Kai was more enthusiastic than you were about this online-dating thingy. He felt that you were old enough to have your own life and that you needed to see people. You needed to go out more and be more involved.

Who knows? You may find someone you're looking for!

Anyway, so going to a place called 'Reader's hub café' was perfectly normal for you, a place where you are surrounded by books was just so normal to you. It felt kind of homey, and you couldn't be more thankful that the person you were about to meet was perfectly fine with you meeting him here.

All the other men that you'd met were at coffee shops, restaurants, malls, arenas, and many more. But this one was indeed new and an experience for you.

You had pleasantly entered the place, and you were ready to take a seat. You just remembered that it'd be so boring to sit alone, and your fingers couldn't help but linger over the hem of the books arranged beautifully.

You were ready to check them out, and you were standing and reading them, while you felt a little tap on your shoulder behind you. You turned around to someone and assumed that he was here to help you out.

"Oh. Excuse me! Are you–" "Looking for Margery Allingham" you smiled. " I'm looking for Margery Allingham." You repeated while the waiter-service guy smiled at you. "Sure, over here" you went along with him, and he pointed towards the shelf. He showed you some books and commercialized them a bit, giving a bit of description for every book. You were indeed interested, so listened intently to him.

The service guy's British accent was pretty enchanting, and you were definitely allured. Now that you stood there, you noticed how tall he was.

Very tall.

You shrugged off the thought, taking the book from his hands and analyzing it. You internally wondered where the man you were supposed to see was, a little bit annoyed because of the amount of time he was taking.

"Thank you for that" you politely said, while he nodded. He stood in a hoodie and muffler engulfing him with a pair of jeans, smiling back at you with cute dimples.

"So are here looking for some book, or particularly someone?" He asked and you looked up at him. "You're right actually, I'm supposed to meet someone. I just... Got so engrossed in reading all of this that I forgot" you chuckled.

"The person hasn't arrived yet, I see." The former commented. "Yeah" you shrugged your shoulders, looking at the glass door. "I could keep you company. We could talk" he offered and you blinked. "Why not?" You said.

The two of you took a seat, sitting opposite from each other. "How did you know so much about Allingham?" You asked, wanting to keep the topic at books. "Well, I'm a fan of her. I love what she writes, and I've read almost every single one of her books" he nodded. "Well, that's great! I like her too." You replied. "Apparently, I was here to meet a low-key writer like me too. Looks like he ain't about to show up" you said, your shoulders heaving.

"A date? Or a business meeting?" He asked and you looked at him "A blind date. You see, I just wanted to meet people at this point of time, and know new people, new culture. And I met you" you paused and smiled. "You don't look American to me, where are you from?" You asked. "My nationality is Korean. I've been living here since I was a teen, I've settled here." He replied.

"Nice." You said, silence following after. "Would you like to eat something? It has been around twenty minutes since you've come here, and it doesn't look like Mr. Unknown is gonna come anyway." The guy said, smiling while you thought a bit, but nonetheless nodded to his polite request, trying to get your attention off those pretty dimples.

"So what exactly do you like to do? Like... Any other hobbies besides reading and writing?" He asked you while you were both walking on the footpath. Apparently your so called 'date' hadn't come and you were convinced by this gentleman to have a walk with him.

"I'm a very boring person you know?" You chuckled while he shook his head. "Not at all" he denied clearly, no hint of amusement in his tone and expression.

"Well, I like music. Just listening to it, not more than that." You looked at the sky. "It makes me feel connected."

"Me too... What kind of music? Classics?" He asked you and you chuckled. "More like... Rap and pop? I know I look like someone who would be complete retro and all, but..."

"Wow..." He smiled. "Any dreams you have?" He asked you, now walking in the same direction but while facing you. "What kind? Professional or Casual?" You asked in return. This guy loved asking questions, and you loved answering them. He even told his own answer to his questions, so yeah, it was great spending time with him. You didn't even realize how much time it had been since you'd been talking with him, and it was so very interesting to be with him, he was just like magic that was too attractive for you to walk away from.

"Any would be great if you share them with me," He said shrugging. "Well, professional... I'd love to be a legal writer. For now, I'm struggling for my degrees, but I'm almost there." You paused. "And casual?" You were interrupted by him. "You don't need to tell me your personal dreams if you want to." he stated, his eyes big.

"I do." I said quickly, and maybe too excitedly. "I...... Do you know those scenes in fantasy books where the girl just sits by the fireplace with her partner, while he reads a book to her and she just... Sits next to him, listening while being all cuddly?" You smiled at your own fairytale dream while the guy chuckled along with you.

"I know..." He said, shaking his head while still smiling warmly. "So... That hell of a bastard didn't show up, did he?" You said, rubbing your palms for relief from the chilly wind. "Maybe he did? Maybe you weren't there when he came? Maybe you were too busy spending time with me, Or maybe you didn't recognize him, after all, you haven't seen him, have you?" He said as a matter of fact, while I looked at him in surprise. "How do you know I've never seen him?" You asked, your smile gone.

Was this guy spying on you?

"I just do," he said in a heavy voice. You both got surrounded by an awkward silence for a bit, but you broke it. "Well, we're back to this place! And my car is here!" You said while he smiled again, nodding.

"Yes, I guess... This is the part where I leave you?" He replied while you nodded.

"Hey wait!" You said, turning back. "I never got your name! Or contact, for that matter!" You said while he chuckled. "Thought you'd never ask!" He raised his voice due to the distance. Your hands in your pocket while his hands in his, he turned entirely towards your direction.

"Kim Namjoon!" He shouted. "I think I'll be meeting you a lot in the future, at least from my side, and I don't need to give you my phone number, you'll find it yourself on the site" he smiled brightly, as he walked away, his hands buried in his coat's pocket.

Your eyes widened as the deep realization hit you.

You got in your car, said a little 'me too', took a moment to scream, saw how it was all too obvious as you remembered seeing that the guy was Korean and he had stated that in his bio on the dating app, and now you realise how much more easier it was than it would've been if you'd known,

That this is the guy whom you were assuming to be a waiter-service guy, was actually the so called hell of a bastard that you were supposed to meet.

A/N

I actually enjoyed writing this, did it in two days! I loved the plot, and yeah, Namjoon was pretty much more easier to write than many. To be honest, I liked this one-shot, more than some others of mine!
