Movie time with Percy
Maddy’s POV
Gods, today has been a whole roller coaster of emotions. We’d met our idols, flown to Camp Halfblood, found out we were demigods, gotten claimed, and now I’m headed to the Poseidon cabin to spend the night. I feel excited, sure, but also a bit overwhelmed. I really just want to lie down, to be honest.
I approach Cabin 3 and open the door, stepping inside. I glance around the room taking in my surroundings. Percy’s bed is in the left corner, a TV is hung in the center of the opposite wall, directly across from a fountain. A blue sofa and some chairs are on the wall under the TV, and there’s two doors on the back wall by the fountain. One is a walk in closet, the other is a bathroom. I realize there’s no bed for me… Percy has been living alone, after all. I sigh, about to flop down on the sofa, when Percy walks in.
“Hey Maddy,” he beams at me.
“Hey,” I try to smile, but it fades pretty fast. I’m tired, I’m still trying to process the day’s events, and to top it off, I really miss my mom. To my surprise, Percy reads my expression instantly.
“Oh gods, you must be exhausted- DAD!” He yells, “Could you maybe give her a bed?! She lives here too, now!” I blink at him in surprise, and then a queen bed with pastel blue covers and the fluffiest pillows I’ve ever seen appear in the right-hand corner of the room, seashell encrusted headboard against the back wall.
“Thanks, dad!” I yell, glancing at the ceiling before turning to smile at Percy as I flop onto the bed.
“Long day, huh?” Percy says as he moves over to the closet, pulling out some pajamas.
“Yeah. I’m a bit overwhelmed, to be honest.” I don’t know what it is, but I feel like I can tell Percy anything. It’s like he can read me. And he’s known me for less than 24 hours. Gods, I got so lucky finding a brother like him. “Is there- is there any way I could contact my mom? She’s probably worried sick."
“Of course,” he says, pulling a golden Drachma out of his pocket and tossing it to me. “Just IM her- use the fountain. I trust you know how?” He winks.
“Yup,” I laugh. I’ve read his books.
“I’ll give you two some privacy,” he says, heading to the bathroom to change.
I Iris Message my mom and explain everything. She misses me, but I promise to visit her as soon as I can. I just need to settle in at camp, train a bit, and then I’ll find time to meet her. She’s a very understanding person, thank the gods.
“Love you, sweetie.”
“Love you too, mom.”
The image in the fountain flickers and fades as Percy re-enters the room.
“How’d it go?” He asks, sitting down opposite me on the bed. I stare at my hands.
“Good, I guess. She took the news pretty well. She didn’t know dad was a god, but she accepted everything I told her. She wants to see me again soon, but I know it’s gonna be awhile…” I trail off, suddenly feeling like I’m about to cry. I try to blink back my tears, but to no avail.
“Sorry. I just-“ I claw at my face in embarrassment, trying to wipe my eyes.
“Shhh it’s gonna be okay,” Percy crawls over next to me and wraps his arms around me in a hug. “Let it out. It’s okay to cry. I understand what you’re going through right now… I went through it myself. You’ll see her again. Soon, I promise.” I cry into his shoulder as he holds me and rubs little circles on my back. After awhile, I pull back, sniffling, and smile up at him weakly.
“Thank you,” I whisper.
“Sure thing,” he smiles back at me, “Want to watch a movie? Or would you rather just go to sleep?”
“Which movie? Your choice,” I smirk, feeling more like myself again. He just grins mischievously and grabs the remote.
*1 hour and 40 mins later*
The credits to Finding Nemo flash across the screen as Percy and I roll around on the floor, laughing.
“So turns out you CAN understand sea creatures!” He says after he gets himself under control.
“I guess so!” I giggle, “Whatever Poseidon descendant worked on that movie deserves an award. It wouldn’t be PG13 if the directors could hear what all the fish are saying in the background.”
“No way,” he laughs again, ruffling my hair. I just smile at him as we curl up in our pillow fort, the tinkling sound of the fountain lulling me to sleep.
