Desiphering the prophecy

Maddy’s POV
The green mist fades and Rachel comes to, looking around in confusion. “What just happened? Did I just-“
“Issue a prophecy? Yeah.” Nico frowns.

“Oh… this isn’t good, this really isn’t good. I knew something bad was going to happen today!” I hide my face in my hands. So much for trying to stay positive like I’d promised myself earlier.
“Hey, it’s ok. Let’s just try to figure it out.” Percy loops his arm around my shoulder.
“Yeah. You’re right. We’d better try to decipher it.” Reyna looks to Annabeth.

“Let’s just go line by line.” She suggests, and everyone murmurs in agreement. “‘Four halfbloods of different descent’... that line seems pretty obvious to me. It’s gotta be referring to Annie, Maddy, Val, and Amelia.” I nod my head in agreement, as do my friends. Annabeth continues, “‘Lines will be crossed, minds will be bent.’ I don’t know exactly what that means…”

“We’ll figure it out as time passes,” Piper concludes.
“Right, um… ‘A traitor lurks from somewhere within, brewing a war between their kin.’ That sounds like what happened with Luke.” Percy locked eyes with Annabeth as he said this.
“You’re right about that one Seaweed Brain… I think this ties in a lot with Athena’s message about trust.”

“And your vision,” Annie adds, “Remember at the campfire? All the campers were fighting.”
“You’re right,” I speak up, feeling a bit intimidated with everyone staring at me. “So… there’s a traitor. Somebody who’s behind the bad things that have been happening. And it’s only going to get worse if we don’t find them.” Reyna nods at me in agreement, then proceeds with the next couple lines, “‘What once ha sewd protected now betrays, all may be lost in a matter of days.”
“No idea about the whole protection thingy, but the second part sounds like a deadline.” Leo frowns.

“Yeah,” Amelia nods, “So not only do we have to find the traitor and convince everyone to stand together, we only have a few days? You’ve got to be kidding me.”

“Ugh. This is nOt looking good.” Val huffs, blowing a strand of hair out of her face and leaning back in her chair. Everybody goes quiet for a couple seconds. I figure they're all deep in thought. I’m just staring at my hands, wondering how we’re going to pull this off. Somebody clears their throat. I glance up and see everybody’s eyes on me.
“Wha- what?” I glance at Percy in confusion, but he looks a bit worried as well.

“The… the last two lines,” Piper starts, “‘Poseidon’s heir, the source of revenge
Familiar blood will be avenged.’ Any idea what that means?” Her glimmering eyes only leave mine for half a second to glance at Percy.

“I...No. Why would I?” I blink, feeling like I’m coming out of a daze.

“Oh I dunno. I just thought-“ She immediately shuts up after glancing over at Percy. He looks pissed. Then I realize what just happened. Piper used charmspeak on me. Seriously, does nobody trust me?!
“If what you’re asking is if I’m the traitor, my answer still stands.” I narrow my eyes at her and my lips form a thin line.
“That was not cool, Piper.” Amelia glares over at the daughter of Aphrodite.

“Dam right!” Val adds, lifting her chin to peer down at Piper across the table.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that. I just- I dunno what came over me. This whole ‘trust’ thing is really getting to me.” I can tell that was a genuine apology, she looks legitimately upset.

“Hey, it’s ok. I can’t blame you, really. That line does sound pretty incriminating. ‘Heir of Poseidon’? ‘Revenge’? Well it could mean me or Percy, but I would never betray you guys and I think we all know the same goes for him.” I say, looking up at Percy.

“Ditto on that,” Percy smiles, then goes back to being serious. “We can figure out the whole Poseidon-revenge-thing later, I guess. But that last part… ‘Familiar blood will be avenged’... anybody have any ideas?” Everyone just shakes their heads and frowns.

“Well… I’d better get going. If you guys need me you know where to find me!” Rachel gives a little salute and leaves the room.
“Well demigods, there’s not much else we can do right now until we get more clues about who this traitor is and figure out the rest of the prophecy…but I’m fairly certain most of that information is going to be found out by the four halfbloods from the prophecy. So for now, we’d best just go on with our day and keep a sharp lookout.” Annabeth concludes.

“Mhm,” Reyna nods in agreement, “But if you guys find out anything, let us know. We’ll help you out.”
“Yup.”

“That’s right.”
“I’m always here.”
“Please, do.”
“We’re here for you guys.”
Annie, Val, Amelia and I smile at the others.

“Thanks guys,” I say. My three friends nod in thanks.

“Alright… I don’t know about you guys, but I’m STARVING!” Annie exclaims. “How about we all go get some lunch?” We all murmur in agreement and head towards the dining pavilion. I’m nervous about this whole prophecy thing (especially the part about Poseidon’s heir), the traitor, and the fact that Piper didn’t trust me, but I remind myself of what I promised my reflection earlier. I’m going to make the best of today.

“RACE YA!” I sprint towards the pavilion, laughing as Amelia tackles me in an effort to beat me there. Everyone laughs as we fall in the dirt, smiling. We help each other up and walk the rest of the way there, chatting and joking around, the prophecy looming over us hidden behind a cloud, even if only for a moment.
I’m not letting the fates ruin my day.
