Caty's pov
I glance across the hallway, at Percy Jackson, the hottest boy in Goode High School, and also the captain of the swim team. His jet black hair and bright green eyes make it impossible not to stare at him. I'm proud to say that he is my best friend, and though he hasn't said that to me, I know that I'm his, too. He's always talking about his "camp friends" but I just think he's making it up to be more popular. I mean, I say I have friends, that don't even exist, all the time.
Percy doesn't need to make anything up to be popular, though. He's just naturally popular, but he doesn't seem to like all the attention. If I were him, I would soak up all the attention I could get. Especially from him.
If you haven't noticed, I have a major crush on Percy, but he doesn't know it. I've liked him ever since he came here, and we became friends, but he disappeared for about six months and no one knows where he was, though he claims he was "sick." I know better though. He was probably just skipping.
Percy's step-dad, is the English teacher, Mr. Blofis. He's super nice, and gives us little homework on weekends. I've been to Percy's house a few times with our other friends, Dylan, Jasmine, and Cory. His mom is also very nice and gives us oddly coloured cookies. On the wall in the living room, are many pictures of Percy and a bunch of other kids, with him. I wonder who they are. There's a lot of him and some dumb blonde girl. She's probably his cousin or something. He mentioned he had a lot of cousins.
Back to reality. Sorry, I got distracted there. Percy's standing across the hallway from me, at his locker, retrieving his books. He's holding something in his hands, looking down. I wonder what it is. I walk over to him, and stand to his right, peering over his shoulder at what is in his hands. It's a picture. I barely get a glance at it, before he shoves it into his back pack and looks at me with a small smile. "Hey Caty." His deep voice rings out in the hallway. "Hi." I reply calmly. "What's your next class?" I ask. "English. You?" I frown. "Science." He looks over his shoulder at Dylan, approaching, and nods. "Oh. Are you coming to the swim meet later?" He asks me, as Dylan stumbles over to us. I nod. "Good." He replies. "You'll get to meet some of my camp friends." And with that, he and Dylan walked to English in the West Wing. I guess these "camp friends" are real, anyway.

Time Skip

Sitting on the bench, waiting for Percy to start swimming, I contemplate if I should ask him out after the competition. He always says he has a girlfriend when girls ask him out, but no one believes him. He just shakes his head and says it's true. I decide that I'll ask him out once he wins, and then when he says yes, we'll go out for pizza.
I look down to the pool, and notice the swimmers lining up to start soon. I also notice a group of people at the front of the bleachers, all holding signs, that read "Go Percy." It's confusing because these people look strangely familiar, but they don't go here.
They're all lean and tan looking, and they're all very intimidating. One of them is a tribal-looking girl with dark skin and braids in her hair, with her arm draped around a blonde boy with icy blue eyes and large muscles. Next to them, were two goth-looking kids. The boy looked to be around 14 the girl looked at least 20. They were definitely not related though because she had striking blue eyes like the blonde boy, and he had black eyes and Italian features. On the other side of them, was a hyper-looking elvish boy, who was strangely attractive, a gorgeous blonde girl with piercing gray eyes, and a cute couple consisting of a burly Asian boy and a pretty girl with chocolate skin and golden eyes, who only looked about 13. What a strange group of people, I thought.
I had barely noticed the competition had started, until I saw Percy half way back to the beginning, while the others were barely at the half point yet. The whistle was blown, and Percy had won.
The group at the bottom of the bleachers, were screaming and cheering for him the whole time, and were now making their way towards him. I realized that that these were the weirdly beautiful people that decorated Percy's living room wall. These must be his camp friends. Then it hit me. What if he really does have a girlfriend? I pushed the thought away, and gathered up my courage to go ask out the boy of my dreams.
Those dreams were soon shattered, as I made my way carefully down the rows of benches, and saw the blonde girl that clung to him in the pictures on his wall, running to him, still soaking, and kissing him full on the lips. My heart broke, I felt a tear slide down my cheek. I was supposed to be with him!
I rushed down and tore the hugging couple apart. "You were supposed to be with me!" I screeched at Percy. The blonde girl looked me up and down furiously, and spat, "He was always mine." Her steely calm manner was quite scary. "Caty, I don't know what you're talking about. We were never together and we never will be. I told you I had a girlfriend. Did you not believe me?" Percy looked very disappointed. "I bet I have known you longer than she has, Percy." I spit. "For your information, we've known each other since we were twelve and we've been dating for two years now." The girl retorted, glaring at me. Percy wrapped his arm around the girl and sighed. "Percy I-" I started, but he cut me off. "I thought you were different." He shook his head. "Let's go Wise Girl. Come on guys, let's go get pizza." He kissed "wise girl's" head, and the whole group walked out the double doors.
I looked down. I just ruined my entire friendship with Percy. I shouldn't even have said anything. Percy looked really happy with that girl whose name I have yet to learn. I shouldn't have messed with them. I guess there's more fish in the sea.
