Just A Thank You (Cassandra Cain)
Because she deserves the loving!

You stared out the window of your classroom, lost in thought. You had been like this for a few weeks now. It was a bit concerning to the teachers, but they also knew that you had gone through some serious stuff recently.
Therapy was more or less offered to you by the headmaster, but you turned it down. You weren't really traumatized by what happened. You were just fine, actually.
So why were you staring out the window? Well, it all started when you were taken hostage by Two-Face.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two-Face: Nobody moves, nobody dies!
Two-Face and his men moved around the bank that you just so happened to be in. You were here to make a deposit after getting to last check from work. You decided to quit after your manager refused to listen to your complaints about faulty equipment.
What a day to pick to go to the bank, right?
Then again, it was Gotham. It was always a gamble. Was it a life you enjoyed? No. Fuck no.
Two-Face watched as his men got the money from the tellers. Some others were robbing the hostages outright. You did your best to try and hide behind a desk, but they could still see you.
They didn't seem to really bother you, however.
It wasn't long before GCPD showed up and surrounded the building. They asked Dent to release you all, but he refused. That's when she showed up. You angel in black.
Batgirl entered through the roof windows and immediately began to fight the bank robbers. She moved quickly, swiftly, like a dancer. You found yourself unable to look away as she fought through the armed men.
Though, you were pulled away, literally, when Two-Face grabbed you and placed a gun against your head.
Two-Face: Another move and the twerp dies.
He held you in place which made Batgirl stop. You looked at her in worry. Not for yourself, but for her. You figured she would have to do something crazy to save you, and you weren't really ready to give her that burden.
So you lifted your leg up as high as you could, and swung back. Your heel slammed right into Two-Face's crotch which made him drop to his knees. You them leaped out of the way so that Batgirl could finish him off.
However, when you leaped, you sent yourself through a desk which knocked the air out of you.
The GCPD stormed inside and Batgirl checked you over.
Batgirl: You okay?
You tried to say something, but your breath was caught. You couldn't talk. She seemed to panic.
Batgirl: Medical help! Here, please!
She stepped away from you so that the first responders could take care of you. But you were just fine. You just didn't have air.
Before you could get it back, she was gone.
~~~~~~~~~~~
That's why you often found yourself daydreaming these days. Not because of some PTSD, but because you were trying to figure out how to thank her.
She did save your life, after all.
While you thought of ways to somehow thank the Batgirl, a classmate of yours watched you from across the room.
---------------
School finally came to an end and you were packing up for the day. You planned on heading straight home to get started on your plan.
You actually felt a bit embarrassed by all of this. You were going through so much trouble to try and thank a girl you knew nothing about.
Oh God. Were you a stalker?
???: Excuse me?
You looked up from your desk to see one of your classmates standing there. You recognized her as Cassandra. She was one of the Wayne kids, if you remembered correctly.
You had only talked to her maybe once or twice before. She was usually so quiet and she mostly kept to herself. She only really talked to her other adopted siblings. You also haven't really talked to them much either.
Though, that only made you more curious about why she was here now.
Y/N: Can I help you?
Cassandra hesitated for a moment. It seemed like she was trying to get a read on you. You didn't know why.
Cassandra: Y/N?
You nodded.
Y/N: That's me.
Cassandra: Um, are you...okay?
She was asking about your well being? That was...unexpected. Especially coming from her.
Y/N: Yeah. I'm good. Why do you ask?
Because, no matter what she did, she couldn't get a read on you. Your body language was like a whole other dialect she couldn't understand.
She grew up on body language. She relied on it. So when she saw you at the bank, being held hostage yet seemingly you looked like you were tired. she figured something was the matter.
She had seen you talk to your friends and laugh. However, when you did, you seemed to convey irritation. When she saw you eat, you conveyed anger. When she saw you getting lectured, you conveyed excitement.
None of it made sense. Even when you were supposedly nervous, you smiled.
It was honestly annoying her.
But you seemed like a good person. She had seen you help other with their homework. She's seen you lend money to someone who couldn't afford lunch. She had seen you held people around the city.
You tried your best in school and you were actively volunteering for projects.
That's why she was so surpised, and worried, when she saw you at the bank.
Cassandra: I was just...wondering.
Y/N: Oh. Well, yeah. All good.
You stood up and grabbed your bag.
Y/N: Thanks for asking, I guess. See you tomorrow.
You began to walk away, but stopped when she suddenly grabbed your sleeve.
Cassandra: Wait!
You stopped and turned to her. She pulled out a piece of paper and write something on it.
Cassandra: If you want to talk, you can talk to me. Here is my number.
She handed you the piece of paper. You examined it for a moment before you nodded.
Y/N: Thanks. I appreciate it.
Cassandra: Of course.
She hesitated again.
Cassandra: And, me and my friends, are going to, hang out, tomorrow. If you want to come.
She was inviting you to hang out? That was...unexpected. Especially from her. Like previously stated, you had only really talked to her once or twice.
You thought about it before you rubbed the back of your neck awkwardly.
Y/N: Uh, I appreciate the offer. I'll think about it?
Cassandra seemed satisfied with your answer. She simply took a step back and nodded.
Cassandra: Have a good day.
Y/N: You to.
You tucked the piece of paper away and waved to her as you left. As you did, Cassandra reached up and began to play with her hair.
You were a really odd person to read.
-------------
You sat on the rooftop of your apartment building and stared out at Gotham City. Police sirens echoed somewhere in the city telling you that the Bats were already hard at work.
Well, that and the massive batsignal in the sky.
You let out a sigh and laid back with your arms behind your head. You thought back on Cassandra. She was a bit weird, but she seemed nice enough. Maybe you would send her a text or something later.
But, you suddenly found yourself thinking about another girl. Batgirl.
Batgirl: Hello.
Batgirl suddenly came into your view when she leaned over you.
You quickly sat up and jumped to your feet. You turned around to find her standing there. You were already at a loss for words.
Y/N: Uh, um, ah...
Smooth talker.
Batgirl seemed to notice your awkwardness, so she took the lead.
Batgirl: Are you okay?
You stopped stuttering and took a deep breath. You then nodded.
Y/N: Uh, I....I...what are you doing here?
Batgirl: I saw you. On patrol.
So she just happened to be passing by.
Batgirl: Wanted to see you. Check on you.
Oh. That's nice. A bit too nice. Oh God. Were you blushing? You really hope you weren't blushing.
Y/N: Oh. Cool. Um, yep. All good. I, uh, I was just....staring....at the city.
You need to learn how to talk to girls.
Batgirl seemed to stare at you. Finally, she nodded.
Batgirl: Good. Have fun staring.
Batgirl began to walk away, but you quickly snapped out of your awkwardness.
Y/N: Thank you!
Batgirl stopped and turned around.
Y/N: Um, I've been trying to find a way to say thank you for saving me a few weeks ago. You're kinda hard to reach out to.
Batgirl seemed genuinely surpised. She wasn't expecting you to have been looking for her. Though, if it was really that easy to find her, she would be doing her job terribly.
Batgirl: Well....you are welcomed.
You actually felt a kind of weight off your shoulders. You smiled, which also caught the girl by surpised.
She just nodded and leaped off the building. You saw a grapple hook shot out and saw her swing away.
As she vanished, you found yourself unable to get the smile off of your face. You could actually think straight again.
While you were in a good mood, you pulled out your phone and sent out a text.
Y/N: Hey, it's Y/N. If the offer is still up, I'll like to hang out sometime.
You sent the massage and tucked your phone away.
A few blocks away, Batgirl looked at her phone. She smiled at your text and sent back one of her own.
Cassandra: It's a date!
