LARK had to admit, she had completely gone insane. All day she was smiling more as she dealt with the children, their obnoxious attitudes and snotty noses never irritating her once as she attended to their needs. It felt odd to not be somewhat grouching on them but loving them, after all, she was expecting Cedric and his cutie pie Lucy. She had to admit, wanting to see him again made her heart thump lightly. It did affect her mood, and gosh, Lark's cheeks warmed slight at the idea.
As of right now, Lark was cleaning up the children's lunches. It was no problem rolling her sleeves up and getting down to business, scrubbing all the mini plates and cups from their earlier meal of vegetables and chicken nuggets. Vivian was currently in charge of the children in nap time, her friend was also forgiving towards Lark about the whole "you seriously forgive finch" ordeal. It relieved Lark knowing that Vivian had given in. She didn't know what she would do if the business place had gotten more awkward.
"Lark, the front door!" She heard Vivian whisper scream. The moment Vivian called, Lark ripped off her rubber gloves, setting the items by the sink as she turned it off. She past by a mirror, her eyes slightly widened as she realized how much of a mess she looked. Ignoring the fact she looked like the kids hit her like a tornado, she went out to meet Lucy and Cedric.
Cedric was sitting by the front desk, bouncing Lucy on his lap as he tickled her chubby belly. Lucy looked extra cute that afternoon in her pink dress, her light hair tied up in a whale spout. Lark waved slightly at Cedric when she emerged from the back door, watching as the other stood up with a bright smile on his lips.
"Afternoon Miss Ferris," Cedric greeted her warmly, his amber eyes scanning her from head to toe. She couldn't miss the way the corner of his mouth lifted up into a half grin, dimples appearing on his nose and chin. "Rough day today?"
"Oh uh this," Lark gestured to her hair and slightly wrinkled blouse, "is absolutely nothing Mr. Quincy."
"Call me Cedric," He replied, the smile deepening along with his dimples. Lark swore her heart was beating a little more.
"Yeah, Cedric," His name felt oddly good on her tongue. "Anyways," Lark continued as a blush spread across her cheeks, "we need to finish the application. Can I have your age?"
"I'm twenty-eight," Cedric said smoothly, a flash of a grimace flitting through his features fast enough Lark almost missed it. When he told her his age, she didn't believe the fact the man before her was five years older than her. His face looked too youthful and his appearance was fresh and clean. Cedric seemed to look fresh out of college besides the fact a baby was connected to his hip.
Blinking rapidly, Lark realized she was staring too long. After clearing her throat rather obviously, Lark continued conversing with Cedric about Lucy. They talked endlessly about whether she knew how to potty train, how she liked her food, and her habits. It didn't seem like thirty minutes when Cedric checked his clock, ending their conversation faster than what Lark expected.
"I have to get back to my job," Cedric chuckled sweetly, preparing himself to hand over Lucy into Lark's arms. "Be good Lucy girl," He whispered into her hair before settling her within the protection of Lark's arms.
"Oh, also," Cedric fished a pen out of his pocket and grabbed the pad of sticky notes in front of him. In a few seconds, he had scribbled down something. "Here's my number," He said with a smile as he stuck it on the counter. "I'd like to get to know you Miss Ferris."
And with that, Lark nodded dumbly as Cedric walked off. Her heart was practically ripping through her skin at this point, and god, Cedric just asked her on a date.
