The Boring Sequel

The teens trudged to the armory with their den mother and their trainer, shedding their current costumes into a hamper and stripping to their underclothes.
Conner pulled his new shirt from the rack, making Wally bust up laughing. "Dude, that's huge! You'll be drowning in it!"
Conner shot him a withering glare.
"New changes..." Canary squinted at the graph, "okay, most of the costumes have been adjusted to accommodate for growth spurts, so if they feel a little different, they're supposed to, and Artemis?"
"Yep?"
"Your little pouches and pockets will now have Teflon coating to reduce wear and tear... I already mentioned the fabric change for Aqualad-- Aqualad, how does that feel?"
Kaldur stretched the leg of fabric snugly over his knee and bent and flexed it a few times. "Much better, thank you," he replied.
"I have another note for Aqualad: the fin projections on your legs are now hollow silicone to reduce extra weight, and we're making them a little smaller to give you a more flexibility." She turned, and almost fell into a grin at the sight of Conner, draped in his huge shirt. She'd been thinking of Clark's proportions when they were ordering, forgetting that Conner was 5'7 and barely 160lbs. Even an adult medium was roomy on him. It was weird working with people who's average costume size fell into the 'youth' category, but she was trying to make it work.
Robin and Artemis turned to look and couldn't help laughing. "Dude, it makes you look my size!" Dick cheered.
Conner stuffed his hands in his pockets.
"One last thing:" Dinah interrupted, "Sometimes your costumes are done by one of our invertors, sometimes by a contracted company we trust, the point is, there might be some minor changes, if they really bother you we can ask for alterations, but if you can manage them, that's ideal."
"Yeah," Wally agreed, "They moved the zipper from the side seem to the back seem, I can't reach it."
Dinah scribbled on another page of the leaflet. "Gotcha. Any other questions in regards to your normal costumes?" Conner's hand went up. "Aside from the obvious." Conner lowered his hand, and the teens shook their heads no. "Alright, stealth costumes..." She flipped through the leaflet again and began reading. "Please remember to be delicate when handling your stealth uniforms, the technology is still new, even though this is the second version put into practical use, they get enough battering in the field. Please ALWAYS put stealth uniforms in the stealth-uniform specific laundering bin... etcetera etcetera... you know how to take care of them by now."
The stealth uniforms were incredibly cool, but they were also very prone to breakage of the fabric-projection feature, and they were very new and expensive to replace. Usually they just used regular costumes and only brought the stealth ones out for missions.
Robin, Wally, Artemis and Kaldur all began undressing again, taking out their stealth costumes. M'gann, wanting to be included, shifted into their stealth uniform. "I think I want to make a change to my stealth costume too." She told Canary. "So, I was thinking of darkening the red cross a little and adding some embossed details like on Robin's costume."
Canary made a note of it.
"Dude! Look at those boots!" Dick cheered as Wally pulled them up. They were new and stiff, and being made for a flash they had abnormally shaped soles to fit tighter and reduce rolled ankles. They also had a thick tread with a very strong grip to prevent wear and slipping.
"I always feel like I'm in kinky boots when I put these on," the speedster laughed. "They're so high!"
"Maybe a little too high," Canary observed, "we'll have it lowered half an inch to account for knee mobility... Robin, how's that fitting?"
"A little boxy," the boy admitted. "I think they overestimated how much I grow in six months... I'd prefer more form fitting, especially around my stomach... I'll let bats know what needs to be changed."
"Why do you get your costumes done separately?" M'gann asked.
"Bats is in close connection with someone on the inside at Wayne industries, he only ever lets them do our costumes because he's been letting them do his suits for ages..."
"Then why do the rest of us have to change companies?" Artemis asked, wrestling on her mask over her already messy ponytail.
"Contract stuff," Canary explained, "that and the less heroes that use a single resource, the harder it is for our enemies and detractors to trace."
"Basically it depends on what else the company is working on at the time, preventing their buildings from getting bombed by villains, and making sure Luthor can't lobby against us as easily," the smallest team member explained, applying his gloves. "Are the gloves operational yet?"
"I believe they haven't been charged."
"Whoa, Kaldur!" M'gann exclaimed, drawing everyone's attention to the boy. He looked a bit put on the spot, holding his arm awkwardly.
"It's... different." He said, shifting from foot to foot. The vents on his tunic were frillier and bigger than usual, the fins on his legs smaller, and his belt and the carrier for his water bearers were made from a leathery-feeling material.
"You know what I bet they did? I bet they finally made your belt waterproof," Wally said, "Looks good, man."
"Really?"
"Yeah! The black parts make you look edgy," Artemis agreed, "in a good way, I mean; like a ten year old would draw their original character in that outfit."
"I bet making the black parts of your outfit thicker means they had to use less of the camouflage material too," Dick added.
"I like the vents!" M'gann squeaked running her fingers along the gill-like vents along the ribs of Kaldur's costume. It was supposed to make it drain water and dry faster, but they looked like awesome racing stripes to the team. "I bet it'll help you keep cool."
"Everyone try out the stealth feature," Canary ordered, "We need to know if they work."
Dick and Kaldur reached for their belts, Wally and Artemis tapped their chests. All of the stealth features seemed to work except Artemis'. Dinah made a note of the failure and instructed them to take everything off again and try on their cold weather suits.
Cold weather suits were a lot thicker and insulated to fit snugly around the kids and keep out the chill. In the crowded armory it made things very toasty.
"Boy this is hot," Wally muttered, climbing into his suit.
"It feels like those fleece tights you get," Artemis added. "Sucks they have to extend my top."
"Girl you're already running the risk with your tummy out and all those vital organs exposed," Robin shot back, stuffing hair into his cowl and out of his eyes. "You don't want frostbite too."
"It's like Cheshire's costume," Wally laughed, "The Nguyen-Crock sisters love showing off the most impractical and show-offy costumes they can perform in."
"Well, I've been fighting crime for what? Eight months now? No one's hit the target yet." She bragged.
"Thoughts on your cold weather costumes?" Dinah asked the room at large.
Wally raised his hand. "Did they add the--"
She sighed, "Yes, they did."
Wally laughed excitedly. "How do I--"
"I believe there's a button on the back of your left boot."
Wally excitedly jammed his palms on the back of his boot, there was a sound like a knife being unsheathed, and Wally began laughing even harder. "YES!"
"What is it?" M'gann asked, craning their neck to see.
"Cleats!" Wally exclaimed, "They finally gave me blades to grip the ice with. They had to retire the idea after the last prototype failed unexpectedly, but I asked if they could try to make it work, and they did!"
Conner didn't have much to say about his cold weather costume, it was a thick white shirt with long sleeves, but it, like the other was far too large, and draped down over his hands.
"Excuse me." They all turned to see Red Tornado in the doorway. "It is now eleven pm, the designated time for Superboy and Ms. Martian to be in bed."
"Alright," Canary announced, "Let's wrap things up."
