22.

My hands won't stop trembling.

It's been three days. Three fucking days, and she hasn't passed by anymore.

I can't stop thinking about it. I can't eat, can't drink, can't sleep. I went to the office three days ago, to distract myself, but all I could do was stare in front of me.

So, now I'm home all the time. Sitting on the couch and anxiously watching the front door, hoping Scarlett will hop through it, smiling.

But that doesn't happen. Hasn't happened for three days.

How did this happen? I got mad at Jordan. He kept asking questions about something, and I just didn't want to talk about it. I got a little too mad, and he called Dante to keep me under control.

So when I hear someone behind me, I assumed it was Dante... and not my little Scarlett. I can't get the images out of my head. How she fell down. How she started to sob. How she looked into my eyes, as if waiting for an explanation.

But I couldn't move. I was stiff with shock. And worse, I broke my promise to her. My promise that she'll always be safe with us, with me. And now...

Tears roll down again. She looked so broken.... and I caused that.

"Elijah?"

I did that to her, and she seemed completely crushed by it.

"Elijah."

I can't stop thinking of it. How did I allow this to happen?

"Elijah!"

I break out of my trance and look up, seeing Jordan. I sigh, disappointed. "Wow. Thanks," he mutters, but he knows I'm waiting for Scarlett. He sits down next to me.

"You gotta drink something, man, this isn't healthy," he says. I shake my head. "Nah, I'm good," I mumble, but my voice is husky from the lack of water.

He cocks an eyebrow. I shrug and look back at the door. "I ruined it, didn't I?" I softly ask. He stops in his steps back to the kitchen and turns around again.

"Maybe you did. But you couldn't know, Elijah. I thought it was Dante too," he says. My shoulders slump.

I should have looked first. I shouldn't have become that mad. I shouldn't have chosen for the attack.

"She'll come by again, I swear. She just needs a little bit time," he tells me. I nod, but don't believe him.

This isn't something for her, to ignore us for so long.

But, yet again, it's nothing for me either to lose my temper.

I sigh. The door only opens for Owen, who comes hoe late again. He frowns at me. "Elijah, this isn't good for you."

"Don't you think I know that?" I snap. His eyes widen. "Woah, sorry." He runs off. I groan, in frustration with myself. Sorry, Owen.

If I carry on like this, I'll lose everyone. Not just Scarlett.

It's ten pm, and I give up. She won't pass by anymore. Maybe tomorrow, maybe never again. The others are all in their rooms, but I can't be in mine. I just can't.

So, I sleep on the couch. I lie down and crawl under a thin blanket. I look at the moon, knowing she can see him too. It's the only connection with her I have left.

My eyes close while a single tear falls down.

Please, Scarlett. Just come back.

"Yeah!"

I sigh, frustrated. "I'll be on time, I promise," I say, again. "I just need to go somewhere."

She nods and lets me go. I have an hour before school, but I just couldn't stay away anymore. I miss them too much. Elijah too.

I run to their house. It can't be that bad, can it? He didn't expect me there. He might should've been more careful, but really, I can't expect him to sense me.

But, actually, I'm not mad. He really thought I was Dante, and he'd never intend to hurt me. Smiling, I see their house behind the trees.

I have their key, so I open the front door. I frown. It's still dark in here... Aren't they supposed to leave in an hour?

There's not a single light on, but I do hear someone breathe.

"Scarlett," I hear someone whimper. I sigh in annoyance. Seriously, Ethan? How can he jerk off this early in the morning?

But then, "Sweetheart," and I know it isn't Ethan. It's Elijah, and he's here in the room. I turn on the light and see him sleeping on the couch.

There's a blanket wrapped around him, but just until his waist. And he's crying in his sleep, tears streaming down his cheeks and him sobbing.

I rush to him. Poor baby. He's suffering so hard under this. I should have just come here, he doesn't deserve this. It was an accident.

I tuck a strand of hair from his forehead away and his eyes snap open. He sobs, "Scarlett." I frown and hug him. He holds on tightly.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to. Can you forgive me?" he cries. I cup his face and kiss his tears away. "It was an accident, sweetie. Of course I forgive you," I whisper.

He sobs again, clutching to me. His head is tucked to my stomach, on my lap. His body is pressed against mine while he's lying on the couch. I drape the blanket over him, and he clutches it closer until I can only see his nose and eyes.

"I'm sorry. Do you think you could ever trust me again?" he softly asks. His voice is tired. He looks tired too, and not in a good shape. "Of course. I trust you now, Elijah. It was an accident," I repeat and he nods.

His eyes close and he falls asleep on my lap. His breath evens, his sobs slow down. I play with his hair, and he makes a soft sleeping noise.

The door opens and a tired Jordan walks in. He yawns and stretches. Hm, he looks delicious. He's wearing low pajamas pants and his six pack is bare.

"Hey, babe," I smile. He squeals and jumps, then his gaze lands on me. He smiles and approaches, gives me a kiss. "Jesus, almost gave me a heart attack," he mumbles. His gaze lands on Elijah.

He smiles. "Talked to him?"  I nod. "It was an accident," I say. He nods and sits down next to me. "Guilt was eating him, baby. He felt so bad. Hasn't eaten for three days."

I gasp. "He felt that bad?" He nods, giving me another kiss. "Happy you're back. The others will be here in a minute. We don't work today. Owen today, right?"

I nod. "Yes, Owen's day. And I'll make Elijah eat and drink before I go to school." He smiles and walks away, to the bathroom.

The three others come in, looking as yummy as always. Owen's the first one to see me and runs to me. "Scarlett! You're back!"  I laugh and nod, giving them all kisses.

They start eating breakfast, Jordan joins too. I softly wake Elijah. He frowns and looks around, disoriented. Then, his gaze settles on my face. He smiles and closes his eyes again. I feel him drift off again.

"Nah uh, Ellie. We're going to put some food into you," I say. He groans. "No. I'm tired," he whines. I give him a kiss. "I know, baby. But you gotta eat, okay?"

He sighs, but nods. "Okay." I smile and give him another kiss.
