Just Between You and I
"Marco. Psst Marco." I pocked the sleeping boys cheek with my index finger. "Marco wake up." I persisted a little more. It was early, the sun was just coming up and there was a comfortable breeze outside. "Dammit Marco. Get up." Finally, he stirred and rubbed his eyes. I found the motion cute but quickly disregarded it, realizing who I was.
"What is it Jean?" He asked in a sleep filled voice and oh my god did it sound sexy. I didn't like the guy, I just found some of the things he did to be slightly attractive. Never would I ever crush on someone like him.
"Get up. Put some clothes on. And meet me on the porch in about five minutes." I told him and stood up. "Oh and be quiet. The others are still sleeping." He groaned quietly, causing me to chuckle at his irritation. He clearly wasn't a morning person, either that or he just didn't want to get up today. I wasn't a morning person either, it was just I had feeling about today. I walked to the front door and put some boots on.
I walked out after I heard him rustling about, slipping some shoes on. I waited a couple of minutes and he finally came out, his hair disheveled and eyes still tired. He clearly hadn't woken up so as soon as he shut the door, I pounced.
"It's a beautiful day, don't you think?" I said quite loudly and enthusiastically. He glared at me, and for some reason I found that cute. "Let's take a walk, shall we?" I didn't wait for an answer, instead I chose to start walking. I heard him sigh and follow me reluctantly. I was uncharacteristically smiling as I walked behind my house and into the wooded area with a path made. It was still a little dark since the sun hadn't come up completely.
"Where are we going at a time like this?" I heard Marco ask, now sounding a little more awake. I turned around and he seemed concerned by my smiling face. "You okay there buddy?" He asked with a raised eyebrow. I snorted at him and turned back around to the front.
"Never better." I said and I could tell by the silence that he didn't believe me. "I just thought it was a great morning to take a walk. There's a place not to far away that has a great view of the sun in the morning and I thought I'd let you see it. You seem like someone that would enjoy sunrises and sunsets to be honest." I said in a happy tone. I was honestly surprised by my own enthusiasm.
"I just thought you'd gotten into the coffee or that you were going to torture me in a little hidden barn until I was nothing but skin and bones and my limbs were severed." He'd said it so plainly that I couldn't help but laugh. "Hey, it's happened." I could practically hear him shrug.
"Well, I did have one too many cups of coffee. I woke up really early and I couldn't go back to sleep. I knew that if I stayed up I would be dead by midday anyway." I said and I could see our destination just ahead. I smiled a little more and started walking with a little more purpose. I heard Marco trying to keep up with me. Finally, we made it to the top of a small hill that looked over a clearing. It was beautiful, if you asked me.
"It's so... Amazing? Beautiful? Words can't describe it." Marco said and I nodded with him. I was the only one that knew about this place and the sunrise being so beautiful. "I want to take a picture of it with my memory so I'll never forget this." He said and I looked over at him. The sun hitting his freckled face and his honey brown eyes was a sight to see. I couldn't help but just stare at his calm, innocent features as he stared admirably at the sun.
"Paint a picture." I said after I looked away from him. He looked at me with a confused expression. I sighed, not really wanting to get into this, but realizing that maybe it would be nice to tell him. "You could paint it. If you're as bad of a painter as I am, it'll look like pure shit but you'll know what it is. Even if no one else knows what it is, you will. You can look at the painting you made to try to imitate it and remember the real thing. I've done it, it was terrible, but it reminds me of what I need the most, that's all that matters."
Marco was staring at me the whole time I spoke. He swallows and turned back to the sun after a moment. "I've uh.. I've never thought about that.." He said quietly. The way he played with the hem of his shirt was something that I found cute. Wait. Wait just a mother fucking minute. Did Jean Kirstein, just think something was cute? Hell no. I'm going to have to go listen to hard metal to get my manhood back. I shook myself clear if the thoughts in my head.
"Of course not. Freckled Jesus doesn't have time for himself since he's busy with other people." Marco snorted in amusement, causing me to smirk a bit as well. "Now, shall we head back before they start waking up and trashing the place looking for us?" I asked and he nodded.
"Oh noble steed, be so kind as to take me to my destination!" Marco feigned the part of a tired peasant. I shook my head and laughed. I turned around, my back to him, and bent my knees.
"Come on cowboy. This horse won't wait forever." I had to help Marco up because he started laughing. He was surprisingly light, not that he looked heavy or anything. I just figured that with his height and slight muscularity that he'd be a little heavy. I carried him in silence for the first little bit, until Marco spoke up.
"Are you not mad?" He asked and I turned my head awkwardly to look at him. "I mean, aren't you mad at the fact that I never told you that I was Freckled Jesus?" He seemed worried about that. I shrugged.
"I don't know why I would be. You probably just didn't trust strangers." I said, sounding indifferent.
"But I knew who you guys were."
"You did? How?" I asked, questioning again whether Marco was a stalker or not. He scoffed.
"Who else named "Jean" would associate himself with the likeness of a horse, and who else would think of a name such as "JeagerBombastic"?" He asked and I thought about for a moment. "I simply put the pieces together. Also, your voices were very clear through your high dollar headsets that probably cost you all over two hundred dollars." He said with a little sass.
"Well, you're not wrong. We saved up for those things and you're damn right if you think we're gonna use the fuck out of them." I said and Marco sighed. "Is my profanity bothering you again?" I locked and he thumped my on the back of the head. "Ow! Mother fucking- I will drop you and run!" I teased, knowing damn well I would never run away. I would be too busy laughing my ass off.
"I could care less. I have two able legs that could carry me back." He stated nonchalantly. I sighed and continued walking while carrying the freckled King. "And besides, it doesn't bother my that you cuss. I just don't find any use of using that language." Damn goody-two-shoes.
"Yeah because you're all religious and shit right?" I said with a bitter taste in my mouth. He began to say something but I cut him off. "Yeah yeah. I know we've talked about this before but I just don't get the whole idea of believing in something you aren't even sure that exists. And you go around more than any religion trying to get people to do the same thing you do. It's bullshit. Fucking. Bullshit."
"I uh, I was just going to tell you that you stepped in some crap back there..." He said awkwardly and I blushed. "But I'm glad you told me your thoughts about the whole religion thing. That makes me feel good that you're willing to tell me that stuff." He said and I could feel the damn smile coming from his face. Damn Marco and his kindness. Finally, my house came into view and I set Marco down. Immediately it felt as if someone took all the heat from my body. I didn't like it, but I didn't want to say anything.
"It feels great outside. We should go to the park or something. Would the other be up for that?" Marco asked, walking down the path like it was wonderland. He seemed to be a nature lover or something of the sort. The way the sun was barely up and shining through the leaves and onto his shiny, brownish black hair made him seem like an angel given the wrong fate on earth. There wasn't much I knew, but one thing was for sure now.
I had a crush on Marco Bott.
