Sneaking Out Like a Star-Crossed lover
-My mother was out of town today, so I tried to give myself a tattoo. Mixed results.-
Ages:
Jason - 16
Roy - 16
Dick - 11
Dick blinked in the darkness, feeling another person hovering over his bed."Hello?" Nothing. "Jay?"
"How'd you know it was me?" Jason whispered, standing over his brother's mattress.
"You said my room is a good escape route." Dick muttered. He glanced at the digital clock on his bedside table. "Where are you going?"
Jason swore at himself a little. "Roy's place. If you tell Bruce, I'll beat you into the concrete. Got it?" Dick nodded a little. "Good." Jason slid his little brother's window open and crawled out, He'd slide off the roof, head to the nearest zetabeam, and head over.
"Bye..." Dick muttered, lying back down.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bruce's dad senses were going off. Seriously. He sprung up from his desk and ran upstairs. He opened Damian's door and was shouted at and to get out, he opened Tim's door and saw the boy half-asleep on his desk, he opened Jason's door... he saw the boy was fast asleep, not scrabbling to hide his phone, or frantically pretending to sleep.
"Jason?" He stated. No movement. He strolled across and shoved the dummy off Jason's bed. It was complex in design: formed from old training dummies, and even complimented with Jason's favorite comfort shirt, and what looked like human hair. Jason had snuck out.
In five minutes, all three of his remaining kids were assembled, sitting on the stairs. Poor Dick actually had to be woken up (Reasonable since it was one am).
"Why are we here?" Tim groaned, exhausted.
"I can't find Jason. He's not in bed." Bruce tried to gauge his sons' reactions. "We don't know whether he snuck out, or was kidnapped."
"I don't think he was kidnapped." Dick said.
"Really?" Boom. Perfect. Dick was the worst liar out of the four. "What makes you say that, Dick?"
The boy fumbled over his words, forcefully looking away from his father. "I just think he's safe. Jason always ends up okay. Even if he was kidnapped, He'd be okay and-"
"Dick..." Bruce grabbed the boy's chin, and turned Dick's face towards him. He forced the boy to make eye contact with him.
"JASON SNUCK OUT OF THE HOUSE!" The eleven year old burst out. He'd been conditioned to spill everything when Bruce made ticked-off eye contact with him.
"When?"
"AROUND ONE!"
"How do you know?"
"HE LEFT THROUGH MY WINDOW!" Dick slapped his hands over his mouth, trying to stop the words.
"Where's he going?" Dick forcibly looked away, hands clasped over his mouth. Bruce redirected the kid's line of sight. "Dick..." He said, in a warning tone.
"TO SEE ROY IN STAR CITY!" The boy blurted through the dam of his fingers.
Bruce frowned. "Oh, is he?" Dick was starting to panic, Jason was going to beat him up so hard he wouldn't be able to walk from class to class in school. He had to think of something, he had to save Jason so he'd be lenient. "Where are they meeting."
With all his power, Dick lied. "At the park! Near Roy's place!"
Bruce let go of his youngest son's cheek and turned away, thoughtfully. "and if he only left as one, he'll still be on his way to the zetabeam, I'll lock him out of the system on my way to bring him in...." He turned to his other three kids. "You three. To bed."
Dick trailed up the stairs, head hung. Jason was going to kill him. Jason was going to kill him... if he got caught. Dick closed his bedroom door and quietly retrived a hoodie and pair of pants. He had to do something. If Bruce was planning to pick Jason up in the car, Dick could sneak down to the zetabeam in the batcave.
He grabbed his belt and shoved it in his hoodie pocket, Holding his sneakers in his left hand, he snuck downstairs.
It was cold in Star city. He stuck well lit streets for safety. He'd never been so glad that Ollie and Roy babysat him, he still remembered the short walk over. Roy's bedroom light was on, but the curtain was half-closed. Dick glanced at the park, Bruce wasn't there yet, good.
Dick knocked on the door a few times. a few more times. He knew Oliver was still awake, having recently returned from patrol. He knocked harder, until he finally opened the door.
"What do you- Dickie?" he asked, clearly surprised. He quickly unlocked the door and glanced over the little boy, looking for any injuries."What are you doing here? What's wrong? It's almost two am!"
"I need to talk to Jason!"
"Uh, Jason's not here, buddy, it- it's almost two am-"
"Yeah he is, he's in Roy's room."
"What?" Oliver exclaimed.
Dick nodded. "He snuck out to come see Roy, I need to talk to him!"
"WHAT!" Oliver stormed to his ward's bedroom door, Dick on his heels. Roy was stupid, and had left his door unlocked. There was a little scrambling inside as Oliver jerked the door open.
"Ollie!" Roy shouted, torn between pretending to be busy and pretending to be asleep. "Get out!"
Oliver was relieved to see that his ward was still mostly clothed. "Roy Harper, you are NOT aloud to have boys in your room, especially at this time of night."
"I DON'T!"
Oliver looked down pointedly across the room. There were a pair of combat boots under the window, next to a crumpled leather jacket and a discarded shirt. He lowered his eyes to Jason's socked foot, poking out from under the bed a little.
"Jason, come out, your brother is here for you. Roy!" He jerked his thumb out of the room. "Give me you're phone and get out here. Now!"
Both teens grumbled defeatedly, crawling out. Jason pulled on his shirt again and looked up. "DICK?" He shouted. "WHAT THE FUCK?" He leapt up threateningly, making his little brother back against the wall. "What are you doing here you little shit!"
"Bruce is on his way!" Dick squealed.
"What?" Jason growled. "You told him?" He grabbed his baby brother by his collar, pulling his off the floor.
"I'm sorry! He did the eyes! The eyes!" Dick kicked a little, trying to get Jason to lower him back to his feet. "I told him you were at the park down there, but he's on his way! We have to go home!"
Jason snarled and dropped his brothers. He grabbed his boots and began puling them on. "You're lucky, Goldie! But I'm still gonna kill you!"
"Hold on! You snuck out to come here?" Oliver broke away from chewing out his own kid for a second. "Maybe you'd better stay here. I'm calling your father!"
"What?" Jason shouted. "Come on! I thought you were cooler than Bruce! But you're just as bad!"
Oliver looked offended. Roy cut of any argument by smacking the light switch, bathing them in darkness. "If he gets to the park, he'll be able to see that my lights on! You two get to the nearest zetabeam, ASAP!"
You didn't have to tell the brothers twice. Jason grabbed his jacket in one fist, the scruff of his little brother's neck in the other, planted a kiss on his boyfriend's cheek, and darted off into the darkness.
"The nearest zetabeam is back there!" Dick exclaimed, sprinting to keep up with his brother.
"That's the one dad is probably coming through!" Jason ducked down a thin alleyway, Dick on his heels. "there's one down here! You go home and straight to bed. DO NOT let yourself be caught of interrogated. I'll find a place to stay until things blow over."
"But-"
He took his phone from his pocket and chucked it at Dick. "Keep this incase B tries to track me. Take it home and put it on my bedside table.
"But Jay!" Dick started, but he was caught off guard by the phone buzzing in his hands. "Dad locked you out of-"
"Shh!" Jason shushed him. "Do you want the whole city to hear you?"
"You got a text. " Dick said. "From someone named Lucy. Who's Lucy?" He asked, passing Jason back his phone.
His older brother smirked. "No one. Lucy is the cover name for Roy's second phone."
Dick gaped. "Roy has two phones?"
Jason scowled down at him. "You tell anyone, and Me and Roy will both beat you up." Dick nodded a little. Jason read the message a smirked a little, sending one back. "C'mon, Goldie! Do you wanna get to the zetatube or not?"
"You can't go through it!" Dick shouted. "Dad locked you out when he saw you'd snuck out!"
"WHAT?" Jason shouted, he stopped running. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"I tried! What now?" Dick shouted, stress overwhelming him.
"Shh! I'm thinking!" Jason stopped in silence for a few seconds, and then texted Roy. "Okay, let's keep going! at the very least we'll get you back home."
They ran for about another five minutes, before stopping at an out-of -order loading bay door for a cell block of self-storage units. His phone buzzed and he quickly read the message, smiling to himself. He closed his eyes, reciting under his breath as if to remember it.
"What?" Dick asked.
"Roy texted me the override code! Ugh! I could kiss him!" Jason exclaimed, victoriously.
"Ew."
After silently reciting the code a few more times, Jason thrust his phone back into his brother's hands. "Here! Go home!"
"Where will you go?" Dick asked.
"I can't tell you, incase dad does the eyes with you again."
Dick looked down, a little shamefully. "Sorry."
"It's fine, I'll only be gone, like, two days, and then I'll come home to beat you up, kay?" He ruffled up his baby brothers hair, and jammed a few numbers into the keypads in the wall. The loading bay door rolled open as they were met by a bright white light.
"Express trip to Gotham city! No tattling!" He shoved his baby brother through the beam, watching him disappear.
Jason turned, this time punching in the override code and the coordinates to Mount Justice. He'd find a place to hide once he got there. Man, he hoped there were no leaguers there, because they'd be in for quite a shock.
