Chapter 8
It was a tough decision but I knew what I wanted. Nothing of all of that. I almost wanted to go with the faeries. They would kill me. Problem solved.
Freja: "I'll go."
Jace: "Freja, don't. Please."
Freja: "You promised you would let me go, when I feel better. Just give the medication and you can continue a normal life here."
Jace: "Please don't go."
Luke: "And with who do you want to go?"
Freja: "With no one. I don't want to have something to do with all of this. It's your world. Not mine."
I stood up and left the room. Jace followed me. Just a hallway separated the conference room from the entrance gate. Jace grabbed my upper arm.
Freja: "Don't you dare to hold me back. Listen, I appreciate your effort for saving me and I'm thankful for what you did. I'll never forget it and maybe one day our paths may cross again. But I'm not a part of this world. Jace, let me go. Please."
He looked so sad.
Jace: "At least let me prepare something for you for the next days. I can't let you go like that."
I nodded. He went away and returned 10 Minutes later with my jacket and a backpack.
Jace: "Please take it."
I did what he told me and thanked him. I turned around and went through the big door.
Jace: "Remember, you are always welcomed here."
I ignored him.
Three days later I was on the run. My pain was still there but the fever was gone. The faeries were waiting everywhere. They really wanted to kill me. I paid money to sleep inside of hostels because outside it was too dangerous and cold. I was exhausted but couldn't sleep The thoughts kept me awake. I was a wreck. I had no money left for another night under a secure roof. i needed to go. They would kill me. I packed my backpack together and went outside. I wanted to go back to the abandoned building. It took me some time to get there but once I reached it I decided to go to the highest floor. I sat down at the rim of the window. My legs were dangling in the air. Nothing then darkness below them.
The sun was gone now and the moon shined bright, some stars decorated the sky. It looked beautiful. I heard steps. They were coming. I prepared for the worst. "It's not save for you up here." It was a male voice. A deep one. I looked around but couldn't see the person. My heart began to beat faster. "Don't be afraid. It's me, Raphael."
Freja: "I'm not afraid."
Raphael: "Stop lying. Your heart is beating very fast."
He sat down next to me.
Freja: "Are you going to kill me now? Go ahead. I'm screwed anyway."
I looked into the distance. If that's the last thing I would see, it was at least something beautiful.
Raphael: "No. I just want to have a talk. Your name is Freja right? The name of the nordic goddess of love."
I nodded.
Raphael: "Where are you from?"
Freja: "New York."
Raphael: "I told you to stop lying."
Freja: "I'm from Neverland."
Raphael: "You don't want to talk about it, understand. Where are your parents?"
Freja: "Dead."
Raphael: "I'm sorry to hear that. So are mine. They died a long time ago. Entiendo cómo te sientes."
Raphael looked like he was in his twenties but since he's a vampire, he's probably a lot older than that.
Raphael: "I can hear the faeries coming. What do you want to do?"
Freja: "I let them get me. Kill me. Whatever they want to do. There is no way out."
Raphael: "Okay, then we are going to die. It's okay."
I looked at him with a confused expression.
Freja: "What do you mean... we? You need to go. They might kill you too."
Raphael: "Oh they will for sure kill me too. But I won't let you die here alone."
Freja: "Raphael, go. Now. This is not your fight. You need to go."
I started panicking and grabbed the arm of Raphael, squeezing it tight. I didn't want him to die because of me.
Freja: "Raphael, go. Please."
Raphael: "I'm just going with you. I will bring you anywhere you want. The institute, to the werewolves, to Magnus apartment or I take you with me. Or we both die. It's up to you."
Freja: "Raphael go, NOW." I could hear someone on the stairs.
Raphael: "I'll ask you again, one more time. Where do you want to go?"
I thought about it. I didn't want to go anywhere. But Raphael was not allowed to die. Maybe I can flee again when I go to his place and wait until the sun comes up.
Freja: "Why are you doing that?"
Raphael: "Because you are not supposed to die. Come with me."
He stood up and took my backpack. He looked down on me and offered me a hand. I took it.
Raphael: "Do you want to come with me?"
I just nodded. What other option did I have? The faeries reached the top floor now. It was too late. We would die. And it was my fault.
Raphael placed one of his arms below my knees and the other one on my back. He lifted me up. What a strange way to die.
Raphael: "Hold onto my neck. Don't let go. Hold your breath and close your eyes."
Freja: "Why..."
Raphael: "Could you just once do the things that people tell you to do?"
He grinned.
I wrapped my arms around his neck, closed my eyes and held my breath. I felt Raphael squeezing me tighter. Then I felt wind and cold. I didn't dare to open my eyes. After like half a minute it stopped. I still didn't open my eyes but fought for air.
Raphael: "Freja, open your eyes. We are save. Calmarse. Breath normal. Respirar, para mi, por favor."
I couldn't manage it. My whole body had convulsions and I still fought for air. Some moments later I was able to breathe normally and relaxed. Finally I opened my eyes. We were in a room with dimmed light and I still wrapped my arms around the neck of Raphael. He let me down carefully, still holding onto my back tho.
Raphael: "My dear, let me welcome you in Hotel Dumort."
