Chapter 2
He began to walk some steps to the right. I followed him with my eyes. "Wait, you can see me?" he asked. I tried to play strong and answered "Of course. I have two pretty good working eyes. So why shouldn't I?" and I was impressed by myself because of the sassy way I told him that. My heart was beating fast and I could still feel the adrenaline. He giggled and came some steps closer to me. The cloud in front of the moon was gone and some light came through so I could see the man better. He was probably one head taller than me and as far as I could notice, he had two different eye colors, blue and brown. He was wearing dark jeans, a black shirt and a black leather jacket. Overall a pretty good looking man. Sadly as far as it seems, he's a murder and that's not really my type of guy.
I was okay with dying. It's a normal thing, we all have to do it. And if I'm dead I don't need to worry about the fact where I am going to sleep next and how I could gain my money. I thought I sealed my fate by following the clinks and moans. If that guy wants to kill me, I could not change it. I had no chance fighting him. Death isn't the worst-case-scenario anyway. He came closer. I didn't even try to back away. He just smiled. I looked into his hands and could see the glowing sword. It was more a dagger than a sword tho. And for my surprise he let it drop to the floor. The clink reverberated in my ears. He started talking. "I am Jace Herondale. And who are you?". I was confused.
Freja: "Why do you want to know? You wanna know who you kill?"
Jace: "I am not going to kill you, don't worry. It's just not that common that people are able to see me. So please answer, who are you?"
I decided to tell him my name. No one knows me here so it won't help him find me, even if I could manage to flee.
Freja: "I am Freja Eliasson. What do you mean? Of course I can see you."
Jace: "Oh congratulations. Seems like I just found a new Nephilim. Welcome in the world of fighting, death and demons."
Freja: "Oh congratulations. I've been in such a world since a pretty long time. I don't know what a Nephilim is but it's probably not me."
Jace: "What do you mean?" He seemed to be confused. "Nevermind... Nephilims are basically a mix between an angel and a mundane."
Freja: "A mundane..."
Jace: "A human. Sorry."
Freja: "Angels don't exist. Dude, I don't know what drugs you are on, but you either stop it or give me some."
He smiled.
I heard steps behind me but before I could turn around another person bumped into my back and I fell. Right into the arms of Jace. It happened like in one of those romantic films I always avoided to watch. Jace tried to wrap his arms around me but I was able to fend them off and staggered a bit back.
Jace: "Alec, you ruined the moment!"
What moment? The moment a weird drug addicted hot guy with a glowing dagger was coming way too close to me? What a shame the moment was ruined. Really, what a shame.
Alec: "Jace, why...? You know what? I don't even want to know. Anyway, I killed the demon in the other alley. We completed our mission and should go to the institute."
It would have been a perfect opportunity to run away but I just couldn't. It was way too fascinating. Even if I would die. At least I would have had some entertainment.
Jace: "Of course I was successful too. The demon is gone. And I found a little something."
He pointed at me.
Jace: "She's a nephilim. Can we keep her? Please?"
Freja: "I'm not a nephilim. Listen, can you kill me now or even better... just let me go?"
Jace: "I told you, I am not going to kill you. I never would. If you want to go, then go ahead. But you should probably come with us to the institute."
Freja: "Okay fine, I'll go. I'm not going anywhere with you tho. But thank you."
I took a glimpse of the other guy, he had dark brown hair, dark eyes and was a little taller than Jace. He also wore dark clothes, including a black leather jacket. Then I turned around and went away. I moved through the dark allies in order to find my way back to a more crowded street. After twenty minutes I had success. The clock on my wrist showed that it was 3 am. I sat down on a bench. My legs were aching. I couldn't believe what I just saw. Jace stabbed something. I heard it, I SAW it. But actually... I didn't really see it. There was no corpse, no blood, no guts, nothing. It disappeared.
