Chapter 7
I looked up in the sky and the moon was shining brightly, in blue color. My wolf was in control right now but I knew one thing for sure, even she had no control over where we were going. She was simply running, trying to get rid of her anxiety.
I felt wolves behind me and just like that, I knew I had done something terrible. I ran away in between a pack meeting, something that even my previous pack considered unforgivable, unless it's a state of emergency.
"Please stop! " I begged my wolf but she didn't.
"They will kill you the moment I stop. " She said. Why would they kill me, I am their Luna, and no matter what, I knew a pack never kills it's Luna.
"They are not from Northwood! They are here for the Moonlit! " My wolf said.
"What does that has to do with us? " I asked again and heard her laugh.
"Were you always that stupid or did this stupid wolf made you that!" She said and it was now that I realized it wasn't my wolf speaking. I couldn't feel the connection with my wolf anymore. Though I was still connected to a wolf, I knew this one wasn't mine!
"Who are you? " I asked.
"I am your wolf" She said.
Who was she lying to, I knew she wasn't mine. But then it's impossible for a human to talk to someone else's wolf.
"I am your Moonlit. " She said.
"You are my what? "
"Gosh! Why was I given such a stupid human! " I heard her curse and if I could, I wanted to stop running for a moment and think this through.
Somehow, things started making sense, how I was able to melt the ice, freeze the water, control the water and even heal a glass window! Only Moonlits possess such great powers.
I was the Moonlit that Monica saw tonight. I was the one Dylan called that bloody meeting for! And if what I learnt in my history lessons was true, I might actually be the last surviving Moonlit as well!
"Thank God, you finally realized! " My wolf, or my Moonlit said. I wanted to block my connection with her for being so rude but I needed her right now.
"Eliza where are you? " I heard Dylan's voice in my mind and I knew he was talking to me through our mate link. I had never used this before but it felt good to hear him say something. His voice had the power to calm me and I guess even my new wolf.
"I don't know! It's my new wolf, she's in control. " I replied. The link went silent, as if I had lost connection with him. I turned around to see if the wolves were still behind me and suddenly I felt a wolf launch at me.
I embraced myself for the impact but before I knew, he was down on the floor. A big red wolf standing on top of it's body. Soon many more red wolves emerged and it was only now that I realized that I was no longer running. My wolf stood behind the red wolves, or maybe it was the other way around. It felt like the red wolves were standing in front of me, protectively.
I had never seen a red wolf before. Hell, I didn't even knew they existed!
"They are your Strings. " My wolf said.
"What Strings? " I asked her.
"Every Moonlit is blessed with Strings to protect her. If it helps you feel better, you can call them your protectors. They will protect you with their lives. " She explained. It indeed made sense, all her words made sense but even now, all I craved for was to go back home and sleep in my bed.
"Let's go, she wants to meet us. " My new wolf said and started running again. I had no clue where she was taking me, but I had to trust her. She was, no matter what, my wolf. A human and it's wolf must trust each other in order to survive.
I went quite after that, not wanting to ask any questions. My wolf kept on running and I started searching for my old wolf in my mind. Even if I was blessed with a new wolf, it doesn't mean the Moon Goddess will take away my previous wolf, right?
"She's sleeping. " My new wolf said. I was still quite. I had no energy to talk to her. I haven't even eaten anything since I arrived at this place.
"Moonlits were blessed with special powers and one of them was having two wolves. A moonlit and a normal wolf. I was always there with you, but I never felt the need to come forward. I would have never even revealed myself, had She not called us tonight. " My new wolf was trying her best to explain it to me. She was now more patient and calm. We weren't even running anymore, we were simply walking.
The wolves following us were long gone and things had become quite. I could hear the sound of running water as the cold night wind brushed past my fur.
Slowly, we reached near the end of the hill, a large river separating us from the other side. I could feel that we were standing at the edge of this packs boundary. My moonlit stopped moving and I looked at my reflection in the running water.
My eyes felt like jumping out of their sockets. There, in front of me, in the running water, stood a large purple wolf with a tiara resting on her head. Her fur was shining as moon light hit it. I looked down at my paws and they were purple as well. My old wolf had brown paws.
"She's here. " My moonlit said. I was about to ask her what she meant but bright light engulfed me, and just like that, when I opened my eyes, there stood a lady shining in all her glory.
"who are you? " I asked.
The lady was shining in the moonlight, her blue eyes reminding me of my own ocean blue ones. Her hair touched her feet and the land around her shined along with her.
"I heard you found your mate. " She said, totally ignoring my past question.
"I asked who are you? " I said, ignoring her words as well. I saw her smile, slightly but her posture was not at all affected.
"It's a tradition for a moonlit to meet the moon goddess on the night they find their mate. " She replied. I felt the ground slip beneath my feet. She was the moon goddess, no wonder she was so beautiful.
I immediately bent on my front legs, showcasing my complete submission. Within seconds I felt hands touch my back and I was back in my human form, not to mention covered in a beautiful white dress. The moon goddess helped me stand back and smiled at me again.
"You are just like her, your Mother. " She said.
I felt my breath stuck in my lungs.
Of course she knew my mother.
"You knew her? " I asked.
"She was beautiful. Not only by face but by heart as well. It broke my soul to bits when I had to turn her into ashes. " I had no idea how to respond.
She looked in pain but I wasn't. I just felt hollow. I stood before the goddess who both gave as well as took my mother's life. How was I supposed to respond.
"Just give it time. Even I hate myself for what I did. " She said, her hands running down my back in a comforting gesture.
"How did she die? " I asked. I saw the smile fade away from her face and a look of anger replace it.
"She brought back her best friend from hell! Someone who was supposed to die became immortal because of her. " She said.
Was it possible? Can a moonlit actually do that? Can I do that?
"I am sorry my love, but our meeting must end now. Be good to your mate and don't let false words affect you.
Always remember, You are a queen, and a queen does not leave her castle for some servants. "
She said and with those words, she disappeared.
