SUMMARY:

One would think that growing up in a society that was proclaimed to someday save civilization from destruction would be glamorous, fun even. Especially if you were related to the one who was supposed to do the saving. No such luck. Darcy Clement lived her life in an underground base, seeing the light of day only a few times a year, which better than some people who lived in the secretive District 13 could say.

Darcy toiled day after day, struggling to live up to the expectations of others and struggling to fit in with the people she'd spent her whole life with. How could she explain that she yearned to see the world as it was, without man or building or anything in it? How could the one who was supposed to lead the revolution explain that she didn't want war? How could the niece of Alma Coin be anything but a revolutionary?

Darcy was the closest thing her aunt had to a daughter, so she was groomed to be a leader. It didn't matter if she didn't want it. It didn't matter if her older sister was a thousand times better at it than her. She was the one who was supposed to bring the future into the present. But secretly, Darcy wanted nothing to do with war or armies or a rebellion. All she wanted was some peace, quiet, and a whole lot of sunlight.

Then came the Mockingjay, rising as the symbol of the rebellion, towing along tow boys, both vying for her heart. One with soft hands and a soft heart, and the other with calloused palms and cold eyes. With all four of them trapped underground and Darcy expected to be the welcoming committee, she began spending a lot of time with the one who never seemed to capture the Mockingjay's heart.

Maybe the one who had never been in the wilderness and the one who had spent almost his whole life in it could teach each other a thing about freedom.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

- Please don't change her name.

- Darcy and Gale take a while to warm up to each other, but not too long. I'd say they're about a medium burn? A fast-medium burn.

- This would start at the beginning of Mockingjay, although with a few chapters before giving a bit of an intro to Darcy's character (if you want). By the end of Mockingjay they should be a couple, and then it goes into an AU after that, when they really get together.

- I know this is in the Hunger Games universe and so everything is sad and depressing, but this story isn't actually that bad. Both Gale and Darcy are severely traumatized by the events of the third book, of course, but they're kind of the light-in-each-other's-darkness type of couple.

- Darcy starts talking to Gale in the beginning because, A) Katniss spends all her time with Peeta so he's the only one who ever wants to go anywhere, and B) he's a hunter and she wants to be out in the wilderness someday. So she starts pestering him about it, and at first he's a bit annoyed but then he finds it fun to have someone who constantly pays attention to him (*cough cough* jealous *cough cough*) and then he starts liking her more.

-   Darcy can come off as harsh, but she's really actually soft and nice and everything she just can't be that way in front of her aunt.

- So Darcy has AT LEAST one sibling (an older sister) and I was thinking maybe twin younger brothers? She has a big family. Anyways, her aunt focuses mainly on her, but all her siblings are like, natural leaders and so she's not very happy about that.

- I don't actually have much of an idea for this plot, actually. That's it.
