Chapter 10: A Little Jealousy

Veronica's P.O.V.

"That was awesome!" I said as me, Aaron, Danton, Jonah, and Ariel walked onto the shore, holding our surfboards.

"Now you know that mermaids aren't so bad after all." the redhead girl told me with a smile.

I set my board down and decided to sit on the sand, the others doing the same. I took a deep breath as the sea breeze blew, making me feel at peace, along with the melodic sound of the waves going back and forth.

"Nice view, huh?" Jonah asked, smiling.

"It honestly feels good being in another setting besides the Forbidden Forest. It's like I have two homes now. I used to come here all the time with Addison when we were kids. I've been a little homesick recently, so I plan on coming here for a while." I explained.

"Speaking of which, why are there people here with green hair? Is it like a new style or something?" Ariel asked.

I laughed. "No. They're zombies. Now before you say anything, no, they don't attack or eat flesh. At least as long as they wear their Z-bands, which are the bracelets you see every one of them wearing, they're no harm. It helps them be in control of their monster side and live normal lives as humans do. They came about when the energy from the moonstone mixed with some lime soda at an old power plant. At first, we were divided. They were sent to live in Zombie-Town while we lived in Seabrook. Soon, they were allowed to come to school with us and then Zed and Addison met, they fell in love, and somehow unified both species." I explained.

Danton hummed before speaking. "Now, how did werewolves get thrown in the mix?"

"Last year, the cheer squad went to camp and on their way back home, the school bus crashed because someone thought it was a good idea to let the damn mascot drive. They accidentally hit Zed, who was planning a surprise for Addison and they all ended up in my territory, the Forbidden Forest. Willa, my second-in-command, or Beta for short, made herself and the pack known to the humans. She was Alpha at his time before I came in. Soon, my pack came to Seabrook to search for the moonstone due to them dying because their moonstones were losing power. We lost a few pack members along the way. Monster laws were back into effect, but werewolves began attending school here. I met my mate, Wyatt and found out that I was the Great Alpha of the pack. Soon, we recovered the moonstone and managed to save the pack. Now, the Monster Laws are no longer in effect and then you guys came in." I explained.

"Wow. I never knew this would be a place for so much change to occur." Aaron said.

"Believe me, neither did I." I replied.

I ended up hearing my phone ding from my bag where our umbrellas were before going to see what it was about. I got my phone out and saw that it was Wyatt texting me to come to the den quick.

"Sorry, guys. I have to go back home. Looks like there's an emergency." I said, getting up.

They nodded and told me bye before I grabbed my things and ran as fast as I could using my wolf speed. I ended up in the Forbidden Forest before I saw our house. I went into the den before I saw Wyatt and Sadie there with a pup, the other wolves watching.

"What's going on?" I asked.

"We found him wandering. His moonstone is almost completely drained. I don't think he has a pack, but, we don't have much time." my mate answered.

"We need to get him to the moonstone. Come on." I said before picking up the little boy in my arms.

I brought him to the moonstone that was on the other side of the den before taking his necklace off and putting it on the giant rock. The necklace then glowed before I put it in the boy's hand.

"Come on, Buddy." I whispered, holding onto him.

He woke up with a gasp as his eyes flashed yellow. I whispered sweet nothings into his ear to try and keep him calm. The little boy looked at me, his green eyes piercing right into my brown ones.

"Thank you for helping me." he said.

"You're welcome, buddy. Now, tell me. Why were you out there by yourself?" I asked.

"I lost my parents. I don't know where they are. This is my mom's." he replied, handing me a bracelet.

I looked at Sadie. "Track them down. Take Willa and a few others with you. When you find his parents, bring them here."

She nodded before walking off to do the task. I turned to look back at the pup in my arms. "What's your name, little one?" Wyatt asked.

"Alec." he replied.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Veronica, the Great Alpha. This is my mate, Wyatt." I replied.

He looked at me confused. "What does that mean?" I smiled at him. "It's almost like the queen of all werewolves."

He nodded. "You two look cute together." he said. "You remind me of my Mommy and Daddy."

I looked at Wyatt and he smiled. Alec let out a small yawn, rubbing his eyes. I took it as he was tired. "You sleepy, buddy?"

"Yeah." he replied.

"We have a guest bedroom back home. Can he stay with us? At least until his parents are found?" I asked my mate.

He nodded. "He doesn't know what territory he's in and some of the pack are unpredictable. It's the safe thing to do."

I agreed before scooping the tired pup bridal style. "Go ahead and sleep on my shoulder if you want."

Alec lay his head on me before all three of us walked. I saw Wyatt looking at me with a bit of a burning glare on his face.

"What?" I asked.

"I see you've been hanging with the mermaids again." he said with a bit of disgust.

"Wyatt, I thought you and I agreed to not start arguments about this." I replied.

"Yeah, but you don't know them like we do. They're ruthless sea creatures that do nothing but kill." he said.

I growled at him. "And how do you know them? Have you been hanging out with them like I have? Have you gotten to actually know them? No, you haven't. Those mermaids are just like us in more ways than you think. Aaron is just like me; a leader who wants cares about and wants to protect his people just like me with you. And really? Ruthless killers? Remind me what you guys tried to do when me and Addison went into the Forbidden Forest that day the bus crashed." I told him.

That shut him up.

"I gave you guys a chance when no one else wanted to. So, why can't I with them?" I asked.

Silence.

"Exactly. Don't doubt my loyalty to the pack just because I'm trying to welcome another group. I didn't see you trying to stop Diondra when she tried flirting with you or Zed. Me and the girls had to step in to tell her to back off." I said.

When we got to the opening of the den, I looked at the pack. "Everyone's eaten dinner, right?" I asked.

They nodded. "Great. Get some sleep if you want. Have a good night and I'll see you tomorrow."

The pack gave me smiles before the three of us left.

We got to the house, him unlocking the door so we could get in. I went to the guest bedroom and set Alec down. I tucked him in and he snuggled into the fluffy blankets. I made sure he was safe and secure before leaving him to sleep, making sure to plug in the nightlight.

I closed the door and went into the master bedroom to take a shower. Once I finished, I changed into a pair of black shorts with pink polka dots and a black long-sleeve with a heart on it.

After I went downstairs, I saw Wyatt watching some T.V. in the living room.

"I'm going to make dinner." I told him before going into the kitchen and getting everything ready.

I decided to make baked ziti with some garlic bread. My mom always loved to make this for me and Ethan.

I felt my eyes tear up a bit. I miss them so much.

As I was making the food, I felt two arms wrap around my waist. Wyatt pressed kisses on my shoulder as I tried not to give in.

"I'm sorry." he said.

"For what?" I asked.

"Doubting you. I know you're a good person and just want those who are different to be accepted. I admit I've been a hypocrite all along. You gave our kind a chance but I haven't been willing to give the mermaids a chance. We grew up with stories of them being ruthless killers who just want to rule everything. I guess times really have changed." he explained.

"Promise me that you won't blow up or do anything? I told you. Let's give them a chance and if they try anything, then we take care of it. Okay?" I asked.

He nodded. "It'll be tough, but I'll try. For you."

I smiled before he kissed my neck again. "But, I still get possessive when it comes to you. I've seen the way that merman leader looks at you." he said.

"Don't worry, he loves someone else. It's definitely not Miss Blueberry." I told him with a laugh.

After some time, dinner was done and we ate together. We made sure to save some for Alec in case he woke up. We also spent the evening cuddled up on the couch, watching movies.
