Chapter 8

Kazuki reached the ship with the lifeless Lia in his arms and laid her in a bed.

"I'm sorry Lia." He took her cold hand. "This has hurt the people around you but, I can't let humans know that we exist. That is why I couldn't just heal you the moment I met you. That is why you had to die but I promise you will wake up. Your new life is about to begin and I promise I'll be there to help you. You won't be alone."

He grabbed a handheld mirror by her nightstand.

"This will be over quickly. It's a good thing you don't have to see this."

He had the mirror facing Lia at an angle that perfectly grabbed her image.

"From here to there, cast this from front to back."

Lia's image was completely locked in the mirror and couldn't grab any other reflection. He set the mirror on the ground and drew his sword. He thrust the blade right into the mirror.

"Now come out! Lia Amato!"

He removed his sword and a bright light shined from the mirror with a form, completely identical to Lia came out of the mirror. The clone of Lia then almost fell down, as it has no soul but it was caught by Kazuki. Kazuki then carried the soulless Lia back to the hospital and placed her on the hospital bed exactly as he found the real Lia. Looking at her like this, made him realize how sad of a scene this was.

He was then interrupted by a nurse who just entered the room.

"Excuse me, sir. Are you a family member."

He turned around. "No."

"I'm going to have to leave. The body must be removed from this room."

She rolled in the cot with a body bag and he saw that she was the only person here to lift up a human body.

"Let me help you with that," he said.

"It's fine, I have it. You can go."

Kazuki sighed. "This looks like it's too much for one to handle. I'll help you."

She looked into his eyes and noticed how they were a deep royal purple colour and was entranced by how they sparkled in the moonlight. She nodded and accepted his help. He lifted her into the body bag and they both zipped up the bag, resulting in their hands slightly rubbed agaist each other. She lightly pulled her hand away and started to blush.

"What's wrong," he asked.

"Nothing." She got her blushing under control. Kazuki and the nurse lifted Lia's body onto the cot. They both walked out of the room and Kazuki made it back to the common room where he left Akito.

"Komatsuzaki," Akito said. "I'm so glad you've returned. I was starting to wonder if you've forgotten that you left me here."

Kazuki noticed that there was a man and a young woman sitting down who looked like their whole world had just shattered. He quickly realized that was Lia's husband and her sister. He went over to the piano and started to play a piece.

"Komatsuzaki?"

He started to play Chopin's Etude Op.10 No.3, Tristesse. As soon as he played the first few notes, Silvia's emotion got to her and tears kept falling. She hugged Monte who was doing his best to keep his emotions in check while trying to comfort Lia's sister but even he let a few tears drop. He lightly finished the piece then got up from the piano and went over to Akito.

"We're leaving now."

Kazuki left the room with Akito following behind, finally returning to the ship.

"Akito, get the ship started and let's get out of here."

"Sir!"

Kazuki ran over to where he placed Lia to find that same Shinigami trying to take her soul with him but the barrier was still protecting her; however, that barrier now how a small crack in it. Kazuki stood in the doorway to try to provoke a fight with the shinigami.

"So you've noticed," Kazuki provoked. "That woman's soul cannot be touched by a mere Shinigami."

The shinigami turned around but this time it had a more human appearance. Pale skin, red eyes, and Kazuki could see some strands of black hair through the cloak. He started to walk towards the Shinigami who seemed to have some fear in his eyes as Kazuki was approaching him.

"You have a human appearance now too? I thought you were just a bunch of energy who could only rely on a bunch of power. It turns out you might have some fighting ability in you now."

"You're," the Shinigami stuttered. "Kazuki Komatsuzaki."

"You know my name? I don't remember telling you. How is it that you know it?"

The Shinigami gave Kazuki an evil smile.

"I've known since the day you've come into contact with Lia. You revealed who you were to her. The fact that you were an alien and I know your fighting style when you came to save her that night. I am Lia's Shinigami. I'm the one who was with her from the very moment she was born and I'll be the one who collects her soul. Saving this woman is useless, she is already dead and will soon come with me. I have no reason to fight you."

"So you're saying that her fate was set the moment she was born?"

"Exactly. There's nothing you can do."

Kazuki walked over to Lia's bedside and started into the stars, that were shining even brighter in outer space.

"What if I were to tell you that I was planning this from the beginning? That I'm here to use you to conduct experiments on you both? That I want to prove that is it possible to bring someone back from the dead."

This set off the Shinigami and he launched his scythe at Kazuki which was blocked off with his arm but it was still strong enough to push out to the hallway.

"You're here to use me," the Shinigami raged. The Shinigami realized that there was no cut on Kazuki's arm. "Oh, I forgot a small detail. I remember you saying to those two rapists that Aliens have iron skin and that your kind of weapons are designed to battle against them."

The two broke apart with about a meter of distance between them.

"Oh? You came charging at me with just brute strength? Isn't that very careless for a Shinigami?"

He lifted up his scythe and had dark energy swirling around him.

"Try saying that after you're dead!"

"Do you now have a reason to fight me?"

The Shinigami smiled and swung his scythe, releasing black energy that came charging at Kazuki, which he reacted to by trying to block it with just one hand. He was able to stop it in its tracks for a few seconds but was having a hard time blocking it so he tried to use both hands but, the floor started to crack and Kazuki was then sent flying into a wall.

"Stupid Alien. That's all the fight he had in him."

The Shinigami turned around to walk back to Lia's room but was stopped when he heard footsteps behind him.

"Stupid Alien? That's all the fight he had in him?"

The Shinigami turned around shocked to see that Kazuki survived that attack.

"Finished Shinigami?" The Shinigami didn't say anything. "By the expression on your face, I can tell that is a yes." Kazuki extended his right arm with a pointed finger and aimed at the Shinigami. "That's a shame."

Kazuki fired a purple blast right at the Shinigami which sent him flying into a much bigger room for the two to fight. Kazuki followed him in there to see that the Shinigami suffered some burns but could see them healing very fast. The Shinigami got up and pointed his scythe at Kazuki.

"I never thought I would have to use such power," The Shinigami stated. "You have proved to me how powerful you really are and because of that, I can't hold back."

Kazuki finally drew his sword. "In that case, I won't hold back either."

They launched at each other, blocked each other's weapons with them both releasing energy. Kazuki's being a deep royal purple and the Shinigami's being black. They clashed swords, with Kazuki being at the advantage until they locked weapons.

"Tell me Alien. Why would you be messing with my prey?"

"I believe I told my intentions about this. It is you who are messing with my prey."

The Shinigami swung his scythe, pushing Kazuki back.

"Fool! I've told you that I had my eye on her since she was born, you've only been here for a month and you have the nerve to tell me that I'm messing with your prey?"

The Shinigami kept swing his scythe at Kazuki through rage and it was very uncontrolled. Kazuki was fighting the battle by keeping calm with his mind wide open, making it easy for him to dodge all the attack that were thrown at him by using both his sword and his free arm. He got an attack launched at his head, but he quickly dodged it by jumping into the air a few feet and then fired another purple blast at the Shinigami that was blocked by his black energy attack. The two continued to clash swords but then the Shinigami was finally able to land a cut on Kazuki's face, forcing him to pull back a bit. They were heavily breathing and Kazuki had blood streaming down his face.

"I finally managed to give you a cut?" He continued breathing heavily. "It would seem that your iron skin isn't very useful after all."

"This is nothing," Kazuki said through his heavy breaths. "I've suffered battle wounds much worse than this?"

"Is that so?"

"Yes. It appears I have overestimated you."

Kazuki smiled and launched right at the Shinigami, pushing him back and putting a crack in his scythe. The Shinigami fell to his knees and tried to catch his breath but was having a lot of difficulties. Kazuki noticed how this affected the Shinigami and then realized that if he breaks that weapon, it'll defeat the Shinigami.

"It would seem that putting a crack in the weapon has put a lot of strain on you."

"Don't get too cocky yet, Alien!" The Shinigami stood up. "This isn't over yet." A swirl of black wind surrounded them both. "I shall take you there, where you will meet your fate!"

The Shinigami's human appearance melted away to reveal the faceless monster that Kazuki first saw him as and a black hole of darkness swallowed them both up. Kazuki could see nothing around him, all that he could see was the darkness that has swallowed him up. He formed a purple blast in his hand but didn't fire it since he was using it for light. Then he felt a presence right beside him and blocked the attack in a hurry.

"Your reflexes sure are good but, they won't be enough."

"I see," Kazuki acknowledged. "The difference in power is far too great to defeat you as I am now. In that case." Kazuki's eyes turned completely black and his skin turned green. "It's time to go all out."

Kazuki launched at him with more power putting another crack in the scythe.

"You're not fully transformed. Why only the half transformation when I'm fully transformed?"

"I don't need a full transformation to defeat you!"

"Then shall we put an end to this?"

"We shall."

They broke apart and then launched towards each other with as much force as they could and they both stood on opposite sides of each other with their backs turned. Kazuki suffered some major cuts on his abdomen and fell to his knees. The Shinigami's scythe cracked one last time and finally broke apart.

"Kazuki Komatsuzaki. You truly are strong. I just wish..."

The Shinigami was cut off and turned to dust and the darkness disappeared, putting Kazuki back to the room where they were battling. He used his sword for balance to do his best to walk over to Lia's room, holding his stomach and taking in deep breaths. He made it over to Lia's room only to find that she hasn't woken up yet.

"Lia," he choked. "I've defeated him. Wake up."

Kazuki fell to the floor, trying to drag his body towards her, breathing heavily. He couldn't keep his body up and collapsed as he reached out to her.

Lia. Why won't you wake up?

His arms then dropped to the floor, reverting back to his human disguise form against his will and Kazuki passed out.
