Chapter 3
Monte and Lia went over to her parents house for supper that night and they were both greeted with a big hug from Silvia.
"I'm so glad you two could make it!"
"I'm glad we could be here," Lia replied.
The three of them went into the living room with their Dad already seated on his chair, watching the news channel. All of their eyes were focused on the news channel.
"Hello I'm Assunta, and here is the top story concerning a UFO found inside the forest just outside of the town of Belluno. Could our planet be invaded by aliens and is this weird object that was found really a UFO? Let's hear from Jacopo, who is reporting live at the scene."
The TV switched to the where Jacopo was reporting live from. He was in the forest with a giant round object that appeared to be an alien's spaceship.
"Thank you Assunta. This is Jacopo, reporting live at the scene. As you can see here, this object which appears to not have crashed in any way. Seems to have landed here like it was planned. Now, there have been no sighting of aliens at this point but there is no doubt that this ship belongs to an alien. Perhaps they haven't stepped foot off the ship yet, but there have been reports on sighting with UFO's like this one flying around in the sky. This is all the information I can give you at the moment. Now back to you, Assunta."
The news was now back to the news room.
"So there you have it. We have yet to meet any aliens but if you see any sightings, don't hesitate to report it."
Lia's face went pale with fear. That guy she had met was really telling the truth and he really did intend to take her back to his home planet. He really was an alien.
Their Dad just shook his head. "Can you believe the shit they come up with?" he complained. "They will report anything they can to scare us now."
"You're right Dad," Silvia replied. "There's no such thing as aliens. It's just crazy!"
He looked over at Lia and Monte. "Nice to see you two here finally!"
"Yeah," Monte smiled. "Silvia wanted to Lia to come over to watch some anime with her."
"Is that so?"
Monte nodded his head.
"Then I suppose you want the TV then?"
"Come on Dad," Silvia said trying to sound innocent. "Just one episode!"
He got up off the couch. "Okay, I suppose. Do you need any help hooking up the computer to the TV?"
"Sure! Thanks Dad!"
Lia and Monte sat down on the couch while their Dad hooked up the laptop to the TV. He left the room once he was finished. Silvia joined them on the couch on after she was done setting up Bleach.
"I prefer to watch it in Japanese," Silvia began. "Are you guys alright with that?"
"Well it's the proper way to watch anime," Lia added.
"I honestly prefer the English dub," said Monte. "I can't stand the Japanese voices."
"Are you serious," Silvia shouted. "I think it's the English voice actors are awful!"
They started to play the episode of Bleach and the opening played through and got through all the introductions of the show. The narrator come on the program and began to introduce what happened last episode.
"The final showdown with the Arrancar will be this winter. Ichigo, Sado, Ishida, Rukia, and Orihime...are using what time they have left to increase their strength through special training. Elsewhere, Hitsuguya's advance guard has been making its own preparations, while continually fending off powerful hollows. But Suddenly, the situation changed dramatically."
The narrator was done with the introductions and the show preceded on with more Arrancar appearing to fight the Shinigami. Ichigo ran off to go fight off Grimmjow. Rukia and Orihime had to head back to the World of the Living, but Orihime had to stay behind and wait for it to be safe to pass.
Ichigo found Grimmjow, who was waiting for him to fight him.
"Hey," Grimmjow called out. "I've been looking for you Shinigami!"
"Same here," Ichigo replied. "I'll show you how much I've changed in the last month. Bankai!"
"Bankai again," Grimmjow mocked. "Did you forget that your little Bankai couldn't do shit to me?"
Ichigo put on his hollow mask and the fight between him and Grimmjow began. Ichigo was at the advantage with his mask. Grimmjow couldn't match Ichigo's power, especially with his arm cut off. Ichigo is destroying him. He keeps firing Getsuga Tenshou's at him. Grimmjow fired a cero at him which still wasn't enough.
"You're finished, Grimmjow."
Then Ichigo's mask began to crack and then Grimmjow was at the advantage.
"You're finished, Shinigami!"
Ichigo could no longer fight back as he used up too much of his spirit energy.
"Oh no," Silvia cried. "Ichigo's getting beat up again! He was just kicking Grimmjow's ass! No!"
"Just keep watching," Lia said.
Then the scene cut over to Orihime in the Senkaimon where she had two guards from the soul society have her escorted back to the world of the living. That was cut short by another Arrancar.
"What? Only two guards?"
Came the voice of an Arrancar hiding himself and Orihime stopped in her tracks to see what was happening and he revealed himself to her.
"Ulquiorra's voice is so hot," Silvia exclaimed. "He's so hot! He can't be the bad guy!"
Lia just laughed at her comment and they went back to watching Bleach.
"This is unexpected," Ulquiorra observed. "The soul society must be completely incompetent. They don't understand that one is most vulnerable when changing locations. Only two guards is a bit disappointing. Although restricting your combined abilities makes things easier on me. I prefer not to rush things when talking to others."
The two guards proceeded to fight him but were easily damaged with one strike by Ulquiorra. Orihime healed the two which impressed Ulquiorra that she could heal them in that condition. He started walking up towards her.
"Come with me, woman. Silence. Yes will be the next answer you speak. Saying anything else will result in a swift death. Not for you, but for your friends. Don't ask questions. Don't say a word. You have no rights and no options. In your hands you hold the rope keeping the guillotine safely suspended above the necks of your friends. I hope you understand, woman. We are not negotiating. I'm giving you an order. Aizen-Sama desires your power and has ordered me to bring you back unharmed. I will say it one more time. Come with me, Woman."
Then it showed the "to be continued" on the screen and then it cut to the credits.
Everyone had supper together but, Lia was still finding it very difficult to eat. The date of her death is so near that it keeps getting harder to eat. She stared at her half empty plate and took in a deep breath.
"I can't eat anymore."
Her mother looked at her plate and then back at her. "There's no way you can be full! You've barely touched your meal."
"I'm sorry."
"You need to eat more! You look so skinny. If you don't eat, you'll end up getting anorexia. Finish your meal."
Lia looked down. "It's not anorexia I'm struggling with."
"Well what is it? Can you explain why your not eating and why you look so skinny."
Her whole family looked at her with concern and Monte's eyes filled with sadness, as he knew what she was about to announce.
"I have cancer."
Everyone fell silent. Silvia who was always cheerful, had shock overwhelm her. She couldn't believe what she just heard and didn't want to believe it.
"The Doctor also said that the treatments won't work and I only have one more month to live."
Her Mom and Dad fell silent. They were lost for words. It's the worst thing ever for parents to hear that they are about to lose a child.
"Lia," Silvia said. "You're not serious are you?"
Lia nodded her head and Silvia let a single tear drop.
"That can't be right. I'm not going to have my big sister very soon. You can't leave!"
The night went on full of sorrow, as they did not know how much longer they would have with Lia and they wanted to spend every last second with her. Lia and her mom hugged each other full of tears. She was getting hugs from everyone in her family, she wanted to stay with them.
Once it got late, her and Monte headed back to their small apartment. Monte fell asleep real fast, but Lia had trouble getting to sleep. She gazed up at the moon.
"I'm left with the choice to live or to die," she thought. "If I choose to live, I leave them. If I choose to die, I leave them. No matter what I choose, I can't win. I do know something. I want to live and I know the answer. Twelve more days, that's the deadline. I know what I must do. I have made my decision."
