Moonlight Dance
Did you ever dance with the devil...
In the pale moonlight?
"My name, is Molly Van Nightsong, and I am now a true Vampire!!!" She yelled, happily. She looked around, to check whether or not anyone heard her elated cry. It seemed as though no one had. She shrugged, it didn't bother her that much if no one heard. She was just glad she had finally left behind all the torture of her previous life... she shook her head. She should not start to remember those times now, lest the ghosts decided to haunt her yet again.
She was about to set off on her journey, to prove she could fend for herself. All new Vampires had to do this. She gathered up her meager luggage, and began walking. It was too warm for a jacket, so she kept it in her bag. She smiled to herself... she was a true Vampire now! She would prove to everyone back in the village that she could be trusted- Vampire or not!
She used to have lots of Mortal friends... but her eyes soon grew red, instead of blue and... everyone knew. The children still wanted to play- but the Mortal parents wouldn't allow it. They just didn't understand...
No! No, don't think about that now! You are never going back there! But... you will still prove that you are worthy of their trust... somehow...
It was nearing night, by the time she reached the neighboring village. The forest was a dense one, with hardly any sunlight able to break through the thick canopy of lush, green summer leaves. She looked around at the village. Candles burned bright in the street-lights, and there were a few people milling around, mingling and looking at some stalls that were still open. So.
I can't drown my demons...
they know how to swim...
She wandered around, looking at the shops with interest. She saw necklaces, bracelets, beautifully adorned pocket watches, and some delicious looking food. She was wandering by one stall in particular, when something caught her eye... a locket.
'wait... I, I know that locket... it's mine!'
"Excuse me?" Molly asked
"Yes?" Answered the woman. Who, at the sight of Molly, lost her smile for a second but regained it just as fast.
"Pray tell, where did you get that locket?" Molly pleaded.
"Umm..." The woman responded, as if contemplating telling the truth," A young woman gave it to me. Said to sell it. So I am- but it's not selling."
"Lies..." whispered Molly
"What?" asked the woman, her voice quavering.
"YOU LIAR!!!" Molly yelled, suddenly, "YOU STOLE IT FROM ME, YEARS AGO!!" Almost as suddenly as she had yelled, she went all quiet and calm... it was more threatening than shouting,"You... you took it from me... 7 years ago... a month before I was forced to join the Night Guard Military!! I... I can not believe, that you would dare lie to me... the very person you took it from... and a," She whispered the last bit- so it would be barely audible to anyone except for herself and the seller,"True Vampire..." The shop keeper gasped in shock and disbelief, and looked down at the young girl. A red aura emanating from within her Vampiric soul. From her Vampiric heart. She looked up at the shop keeper suddenly, and bared her fangs. The stall keeper made a strange squeal in fear, before covering her mouth with her hand.
"H-here you go... Molly Van Nightsong... " She stammered, as she passed the locket to the Vampire.
"Thank you." Answered Molly, returning to normal and smiling. She bowed politely, and left. Leaving the shop keeper to herself.
Even the Devil cries...
When he remembers he once had wings...
Molly was asleep, fast asleep.
#MOLLY'S POV#
I am standing in the ranks... i am six years old again. In the dream, I am standing next to Colonel Graci Van Moonbatt. She looks down towards me, and smiles encouragingly. Brigadier General Braun Van Midnight is briefing us. He looks down straight at me, as if to say: 'If you DARE try to run, I'll have you shot on sight.'
The dream switches. Now, I am stood above a crowd of innocents, with orders to kill. There are tears in my eyes, as I pull the pin out of three grenades... and throw into the crowd. I turn away, I can't watch. Tears are threatening to break through the barrier my closed eye lids present. But I gulp them back down. I can't let anyone see my crying. No one. Not even Col. Van Moonbatt.
Next. Next... I have to watch... the worst thing that happens to me during the entire war... Graci's death... Colonel Graci Van Moonbatt... the one friend I've had throughout most of the war... dying... right before my eyes, and there is nothing I can do to save her.
The rest of the war. I am crying about Graci's death. I am murdering more innocent Mortals. Forcing myself not to cry, I whisper 'sorry...' as I do after every massacre. Even though I know it won't do much. I can't reverse what I've done...
#NORMAL POV#
Molly jerked into an upright position, panting. Why? Why must she always have these dreams? Why must she force herself to forget while awake- only to remember while asleep...
She... she killed... thousands of innocent people... but when she got home... h-her family... was gone...
She misses them...
And she shall dance the Moonlight Dance with them soon...
