Chapter 7

Lightpaw awoke to sunlight streaming through the den. For a split second, she was confused about why she was in the apprentices' den, before she remembered the ceremony yesterday.

She sprang up and raced over to Echoblossom, who was still sitting in the clearing, waiting to be dismissed.

Sparkstar walked up to the two of them just as Lightpaw was about to greet Echoblossom, and mewed "Echoblossom, you are dismissed from your vigil. You may go get some rest, but once it's sunhigh, I expect you to start contributing to the Clan again."

"Thank you, Sparkstar." Echoblossom mewed, dipping her head to the leader, who turned around at her words and padded back to her den.

Lightpaw turned back to Echoblossom and mewed "So how do you like your new name?"

"I love it!" Echoblossom purred, giving her paw a quick lick then turning around to go to the warriors den. "I finally get to sleep here!" she mewed, so excited because she had finally earned a proper place in the Clan.

Lightpaw watched as she padded away, then saw Crowmia slip into camp after the dawn patrol.

"Lightpaw, time for the tour of the territory!" The black and grey she-cat called to her. Lightpaw bounded up to her, excited to see the outside world for the first time.

When they pushed through the gorse tunnel, there was a pile of rocks that led down in a gentle slope towards the camp. On the other side of the entrance, it also rose up, but in a slightly steeper slope.

Lightpaw bounded after Crowmia, using her wings to balance her as she sprang up onto the last boulder. The forest floor was dappled with sunlight, making Lightpaw's pelt stand out.

I hope that doesn't make my training any harder, she thought as she followed Crowmia's black tail.

Her mentor rounded a patch of bracken, and a stinging, horrible scent hit Lightpaw's nose. She stumbled back, and Crowmia waited for her to catch up again.

As the scent grew stronger and stronger, Crowmia mewed "That's the Thunderpath. On it, there are huge, foul smelling monsters that patrol it, and they carry Twolegs in their bellies. When I was still a kittypet, the Twolegs took me in one of those, and they're horrible. Please, for your own safety, never, ever go on the Thunderpath unless you have an experienced warrior with you."

Lightpaw nodded, trying not to gag on the horrible smell. The two cats pushed through the trees, and a huge black pathway that radiated heat and smelled of poison loomed in front of them. Lightpaw could hear a low roar in the distance. It quickly got closer, swamping her senses.

A huge, glittering black monster raced toward the cats, black paws spinning as it bared down on them. Lightpaw fled, not knowing what to do. Crowmia stayed sitting, calmly watching as the monster raced past her and left trail of toxic scent in its wake. Lightpaw ran back to her mentor, confused.

"How come it didn't try to chase you?" she asked, cocking her head "Wouldn't it want to catch you and eat you?"

"I don't really know why," Crowmia meowed, still looking extraordinarily calm "All I know is that they have never, in my entire life here in the forest, left the Thunderpath."

Lightpaw nodded, still slightly shaky from the fright. Crowmia rose back to her paws and padded along the line of trees. On the other side of the Thunderpath, Lightpaw noticed a few cats weaving in and out of the trees. Lightpaw didn't recognise the cats, or even the trees.

"Who are they?" Lightpaw asked, flicking her tail at the cats darting in and out of the shelter of the trees.

"Those are ShadowClan cats," Crowmia mewed "They live in the pine forest, and their Clan was founded by Shadowstar. They usually like to attack at night, because they've figured out how to hide in the shadows."

Lightpaw stared at the cats, wondering why anyone would ever want to attack another cat on purpose. Crowmia led them up past an old sycamore tree, then suddenly turned back into the trees. A new scent started to crowd into Lightpaw's nose, a cat's scent. Crowmia kept walking as the scent wafted up from the ground.

Suddenly, Crowmia stopped, sniffing at the brambles and briar. The scent started to become almost unbearable for Lightpaw, and she found herself staying downwind of it. Crowmia raised her head to look at Lightpaw.

"This is the SkyClan border," she mewed "SkyClan is very good at jumping, and they prefer to attack in the trees, making them very hard to fight. The Clan was founded by Skystar, who was the father of Thunderstar, the founder of our Clan."

Lightpaw looked into the trees. It looked exactly the same as their territory, and Lightpaw wondered why they couldn't share it. But these thoughts were pushed to the back of her mind as Crowmia padded down a slight slope. It looked to Lightpaw as if they were heading back to camp, and she was dissapointed, before hearing the slight sounds of trickling water.

The trees started to thin, and a magnificent river loomed into view. Lightpaw immediately recognised the territory of RiverClan, with a slight fishy smell drifting from it. Lightpaw could see cats swimming in the river, stopping every now and again to submerge themselves, then surface again with a glittering fish in their jaws.

Crowmia turned to Lightpaw and meowed "This is RiverClan, as you should know. They were founded by Riverstar, who figured out how to swim and catch fish to feed his cats. As a result, RiverClan have gone from eating land prey to eating fish most of the year, except for in leafbare, when the river freezes over."

Lightpaw found herself leaning closer to the water to see if she could spot Stormpaw. The dark grey she-cat was sitting next to Mottledwish in the water, learning how to paddle with her legs, and how to hold her breath. Stormpaw paused for a moment to quickly wave her tail at Lightpaw, before continuing, trying as hard as possible to get it right.

Lightpaw waved her tail back, then ran after Crowmia, who had begun making her way back to camp. When they were finally back, it was already past sunhigh, and Lightpaw settled in the shade, tired after her first day of being an apprentice. Brokenpaw came to sit next to her, and they shared a mouse that Jaypaw had caught and brought back for them, as a welcome gift.

"What did you do today?" Lightpaw asked her brother.

"We went to see Snakerocks, the Training Hollow, and the Owltree." Brokenpaw meowed, clearly very excited for the next day's training. Lightpaw purred and sat next to her brother, discussing the day's events.

Well, congrats if you got this far! After around chapter 10, I'll be posting less often because I'm going to post the chapters on Fanfiction.net first, then copy it on here.

If it takes more than a week, just know that I either haven't had time to copy the chapter on here, or I haven't actually written the chapter yet.

Anyways, thanks for reading, and I hope you've enjoyed!
