headcanons pt 2
*Clearsight's mom was a gardener, which is where she got her love of plants. (Yes this is self-projection because my mom used to be a gardener for a while and now by some weird, unintentional turn of events that's my job too, and I actually like it a lot.)
*Her dad was a carpenter, he built like shelves and tables and shit for people, so Clearsight also knows how to build things at a basic level anyway. Yes this is also self-projection because the first time I used power tools, I think I was eight or nine, but Clearsight is my comfort character and I've had a long week so you can't stop me.
*Her dad was where she got all her niceness from, her mom was much more organized and meticulous and far less emotional with her daughter, which is where Clearsight got her work ethic. Neither of them understood Clearsight, but her dad tried a lot harder to understand her and see where she was coming from.
*Extra powerful prophecy or mind-reading ran in Clearsight's family, but it was, like animus magic, super recessive. Her grandmother was a lot like her, with really intense mind-reading, and her mom resented her for it and just wanted to live a normal life, without all that "powers nonsense." So it was a nasty surprise when her daughter turned out like she did, and she always sort of saw Clearsight's power like it needed to be gotten rid of.
*The kids dark and clear have after the war is over, Daybreak and Foeslayer, are identical twins, who hatch under one full moon. Daybreak gets mind-reading, Foeslayer gets prophecy, so the only difference between them is that one has teardrop scales, the other doesn't. I like the idea of one or both of them having similar levels of power to their mom, or maybe one of Clearsight's grandkids, idk.
*Oh, another idea I had a few days ago: Clearsight was raised at least a little religious. Her mom saw how bad her daughter's visions were getting, and turned to the only explanation she could find--that it was Clearsight's fault somehow, she'd done something to displease the moons, and that was why they had cursed her like this, and if she did all the right things, the bad possibilities she saw would go away. She meant well, but she ended up giving Clearsight the really bad notion that she could fix the entire world if she just tried hard enough, and that other people's bad decisions were her responsibility to fix.
*Darkstalker is so good at cooking and generally running a household partially because knowing how to do practical tasks is a cool skill to have imo, but mostly because he had to learn that stuff, since Foeslayer was often gone fighting in the war, and Arctic's idea of grocery shopping was coming home with, like, three live fish, which he dumped on the table and told the kids to dig in, and most of the time, he refused to do any kind of housework at all, because he didn't know how and refused to admit it. And Whiteout's idea of cooking was making, like, super fancy things like an edible flower on a plate with some artfully drizzled sauce and going on a monologue about how "is art not sustenance enough." So he had to make all the meals for his sister and him, and basically acted as an adult while Foeslayer was gone, since his father sure as hell wasn't stepping up to the task. He sort of liked it, but he also really resented having to take up that role as, like, a middle schooler. But the house still just fell apart whenever Foeslayer was gone--she would come back to heaps of dishes in the sink and broken plates on the floor, stuff like that, as can be expected when you leave running the house to your preteen son.
