art! (also chapter 46 teaser)
Ok so I just got an art tablet and I'm literally so excited, I spent a good four hours this morning just doing my silly little dragon doodles. I'm still getting the hang of it, I've only ever done traditional before, but OH MY GOD THIS IS SO FREAKING COOL. Anyway here are some things i've drawn over the past few days. (aaa why am I so nervous about posting this? for some reason i've been overthinking this for a few days now.)
An Eclipse! (ft. the back of Permafrost's head because I don't feel like cropping the image). I feel like she's a little too purple, I'm still working out her colour palette, but I've had this basic design for her for ages. She is small! I want to hug her! (And she has Darkstalker's twisted horns, because she just got all the best traits from her parents.) I love her little frill-y thing, I think it helps make her look very delicate and friendly.
Nebula and Star!! I am so proud of Star, she's my favourite, I think I did a good job with the shading for her. I imagine Nebula has a blue and gold colour scheme, 'cause his dad's name was "sunwhisperer" so presumably his dad had some gold or yellow or something, plus it feels very royal and elegant. I wanna make his scales darker to match Star's tho, the colours feel a bit off.
Anyway um. I do art!!! I now have all the tools to make an animatic once I have enough practise under my belt btw, so um. In like six months you guys are gonna have so many animatics coming your way--I've been playing around with the animation feature on my art software, and it's surprisingly not as intimidating as I thought, so we'll see.
(Yes I have designs for basically all the characters in timeline. Yes that includes Dark and Clear and I will probably post them at some point but no promises.)

Okay anyway on another note: chapter teaser! This one is an Eclipse POV. The school she's going to (which incidentally, is the same one Permafrost briefly attended) is based off finishing schools in the 19th century--basically designed to make you really good arranged marriage material--but with an added splash of IceWing Horribleness. They really just made the most toxic school environment imaginable. But don't worry, Eclipse makes a friend, her name is Harp and i love her with my entire heart. <3

Since our fight, Snowfox let me have a room at the palace, very close to hers. (Closer than Polar's is, actually—I can't tell if that's supposed to be a gesture of affection, or a show of how little she trusts me.)
It's not really that much of an upgrade from the prison cell. I mean, at least I can move around, but the only things I have to my name right now are art supplies and a polar bear fur.
Everything here is made of ice. I know this is supposed to be luxurious, but the bed is really just an ice shelf, and it makes my back sore. And it's still freezing, and if I want to take a bath, the water is like ice. And also, there are still guards assigned at my door. She doesn't trust me that much.
I guess I could ask one of them to heat the water up. (The IceWings do know how to make fire; they just can't breathe it—but they know how to make oil, the kind you can burn in lamps and use for making metalwork and stuff. I think I remember Dad telling me at some point or other that it's one of their main exports, and the reason their kingdom is so wealthy. They're one of the only tribes who's figured how to make it, so they can charge loads for it, and no one can do anything.)
But that feels kind of mean and entitled, and I don't want to cause trouble, so I don't.
I shiver, glancing at myself in the silver mirror that was here when Snowfox showed it to me, probably some old IceWing princess's. I look like I'm on the verge of succumbing to frostbite, but otherwise—
A knock sounds at the door. I answer it—Snowfox. Of course.
She clears her throat. "My—Snowflake told me that if I don't give you some jewels they will, and I quote, eat you alive at Princess Alabaster. So she's offered you some of her jewelry, which is a win for both of us, because I want my weapons wall back. A dragon has limits." She clears her throat, passing me a box full of earrings and necklaces, a few tiaras, and a white fur cloak.
"She also said it would be a disruption to the class if you're shivering all the time. So, here." She passes me the white fur cloak, far too big for me. "This was mine. From when I was your age."
"Oh. Thank you." I still want to punch her, but right now I'm too busy shivering into the warm fur to be worried about that. Plus, I probably should try to keep Snowfox on my good side—at any moment, she could shove me right back in that awful cell.
"Don't mess that up, kid," Snowfox says sternly. "That got me through my first battle. I'm only giving it to you because if you came down with hypothermia, it would be rather impractical."
"I understand," I say quietly, bowing my head.
