Lilac

The next morning when I woke up it was cold, I didn't want to get up. But I heard dad hustling about in the kitchen and I knew at some point he would come in and drag me out. Then the floorboards creaked and I sat up and watched as Roxi was already dressed and tying her brown wavy hair back.

"Morning sunshine." She greeted and I groaned in response.

"You look stylish this morning." In her black jeans, black studded coat and a red T-shirt that has a pretty girl with a shadow of a devil. I don't even know where she gets these clothing, she just sneaks off and buys things and sometimes she'll share them with me. Dad isn't really a shopper.

"Thanks now get up and get ready for school." She ordered and I instantly covered my myself with my duvet. Warm so warm. "If you're not going to get ready for school then get ready for Jesse." That shook me up, I ran to the dresser and pulled out my grey checkered skirt and a black T-shirt that said in white writing Normal is boring. And that's a well known fact. I brushed my frizzy hair and styled in a half up half hair do and clipped a sparkly skull on the back.

"Should I wear lipstick?" I asked her and she rolled her eyes. "What?"

"You don't have to doll up for him. He did rat us out last night."

"Maybe it was just his friends besides I'm not looking good for him I'm looking good for myself." I stated proudly and she mumbled something under her breath. But I just ignored her and put on my dark purple lipstick. I checked myself out in the mirror and I don't like what I see. My hair has split ends, I have dark bags under my eyes, my lips are the size of Uranus and I have a pointed out chin. (A very serious deform or flaw.)

"Girls come on you'll miss your bus!" Dad yelled out and Roxi grabbed our gross-gusting brown school  bags and tossed me mine, I caught it and slipped on while opening the door for Roxi. We ran to the kitchen and I ran to the fridge while Roxi readied the toaster. I got out the strawberry jam and a butter knife and then the toast popped out. Roxi tossed me the toast and I caught them both with a plate dad left out for us and I put it on the kitchen bench and with swift movements spread the jam on the toast. We've got skills... That's wasted on toast... "Could have done that faster." Dad said as he walked in with a timer in his hand. I sighed and just gave Roxi her piece of toast and chucked the plate in the sink. We don't care much for cleaning up around the place so crumbs on the kitchen is no bother for us, plus we don't have a vacuum.

"Mr Valentine..." Roxi started looking at him through her long lashes. He sat down at the round dining table and stared her with no comforting smile.

"Yes."

"I... Need another pocketknife." She said and he sighed.

"You lost yours."

"Yeah... In the vampires neck." She said nervously and he cracked a smile which seemed to make Roxi smile in relief. They always seem standoffish towards each other so it's good see them come down and just chill.

"I doubt you'll need one at school so I'll see what I can find for you." He said then unravelled his newspaper.

"Hey dad? Can I use a gun?" I had to ask! Because he let Roxi use one.

"You can't threaten your teachers to give you no homework."

"That wasn't why I wanted one but that thought has been added to my bucket list." He laughed his eyes concentrating on the newspaper. "I just want to know when we get to go hunting with you."

"Bus is here." He said and Roxi chuckled while walking out of the kitchen. He's safe for now... I sighed and kissed his cheek before running after Roxi. She waited at the front door for me and when I closed it behind me we ran to the big yellow bus. Roxi smiled sweetly at the old man driving and he smiled nodding at both of.

"How are you girls?"

"Well thank you. How's the wife?" Roxi asked and frowned.

"Driving me insane."

"Bring her some chocolate." I advised and he laughed a little so we continued on down to the back. Close to where Jesse is sitting and some other people in our class. I would have smiled at him but I noticed a blond sitting next to next to him. Why is he sitting next to her? Trisha the beauty queen, literally she actually goes to competitions willingly and wins every time. Big blond hair and often cake faced but the prettiest blue eyes however nowhere near as gorgeous as Roxi's. Is Jesse really into girls like that?

"Come on let's sit here." Roxi whispered to me and we sat down five seats away from them.

"Hey nice hair." Trisha called out to Roxi before she got to sit down so Roxi stayed standing at stared blankly at Trisha then raised an eyebrow. "I wish my hair could look good in a ball of frizz." Oh no she didn't. I would take that like a backhand to the face but Roxi put on that dangerous smile, words don't hurt her. Actually words can't hurt her.

"Thank you nice..." Roxi paused. "I wish my..." She paused again while I giggled silently. "Never mind." She sat back down smirking then her eyes widened and she stood back and pointed at Trisha. "Oh I got one, nice nose hair." She yelled and everyone laughed loudly while the beauty queen covered her nose. Roxi sat back next to me and I high fived her hand then we continued on just talking about how the movie Vampires Suck is a representation of werewolves and vampires. But for the rest of the ride I kept giving Jesse a few glances, but he ignored me. "Forget about him, if he's hanging out with Trish then there's something wrong with him." Roxi said reassuringly and I nodded smiling acting as if it didn't bother me. But unfortunately it did, guys never want me.

Roxi

It could have been a lot worse for Trisha. If she dared comment on my weight I would have ripped out her extensions. What twelve year old has extensions anyway? Her hair is covered in so much hair spray birds have fallen from the sky dying from the fumes. Yes I'm a little self conscience about the belly I'm carrying around. I try to keep fit but there's just one little problem.

I love to eat.

And it shows... But I don't let it bring me down. Anyway I ran down the hallway heading for the student office to drop off the roll. We've spent a lot of the day just going through the motions, teachers talk, we pretend to listen, they give us work and we pretend to know what we are doing. And with that time I've tried to distract Lilac from the fact that Jesse and Trisha are actually together. She doesn't know but I'm trying to teach her not to care. I slowly stepped to the door but I smelt something funny. Something off, and a little rotten...

I pushed the door open for the student office and stiffened when I saw him. Long black coat, the collar up to give him the more vamp like look. I can only see the back of the vampire's head but I know he can sense me standing there. I controlled my breathing, trying to slow my heart beat to normal so he won't feel any fear coming from me. Just keep your cool... I left the roll on the seat next the door and quietly paced outside closing the door behind me. I glanced behind through the glass and he was glaring at me with shining red eyes. I remained emotionless and started off feeling his piercing gaze on my back. Again feeling like he's reading my soul. Once around the corner I bolted, quickly trying to get back to class so I can warn Lilac. Also trying not to panic... In fact I don't panic, Lilac does that for me. I just think of ways to get us out if these situations. Meanwhile I've got to think of a plan now. As much as I would like to, we can't just skip school. Everyone whether they like or dislike, knows us and if we just disappeared they'd soon realise it. They'd call Mr Valentine and he'd tell us off, goodbye new pocket knife. However on the other hand we'll come home and just explain that the vampire is here at the school. I'll get to keep the pocket knife and have a day off school. During the thinking I didn't realise a boy walking out of his classroom so I crashed into him and we smacked heads, so he fell down on his ass while I stayed standing whining about the pain in my head.

"Sorry." I murmured and he glared up at me hand on his soon to be bruised forehead.

"Watch where you're going fatty!" He yelled out and the pain somehow washed away, replacing it was annoyance. I took one step towards him and smirked sinisterly then I swung my leg kicking his stomach so he curled in groaning.

"I ever hear you talking like that to a girl again and I'll push your head further up your ass." I threatened and he stared up at me confused.

"Further?"

"Oh yeah." I stepped over him and then continued on running.

I reached the classroom and found Lilac sitting alone at our table just drawing in her book. I claimed that table as ours, so I don't take to kindly to random boys who just decide they're going to go over and talk to her. Jesse sat next to Trisha not willingly though, he kept looking back at Lilac while Trisha linked her arm with his possessively. Talk about control freak. The funny part is even Jesse's friends (idiots) have gone over to sit with her. She looked at them all surprised then smiled sweetly as they started conversation. Congratulations Lilac, may have not gotten princes but you got a lot of stable boys. Ugh don't have time for this. I speed walked around tables and stood opposite Lilac.

"Lilac. We have a problem..." She stared me in confusion then perked her eyebrow.

"What's the problem."

"Can you just trust when I say we have to leave now?"

"Leave?" One of the guys intervened. Idiot 1.

"Where are you going?" Idiot 2.

"Yeah?" Idiot 3.

"Ah we don't have time for this. Lilac can I talk to you for a second?" She nodded as she stood up and we walked to the corner of the room. The boys watched us curiously so when I perked an eyebrow at them they quickly looked away. I gazed back at Lilac again and she was smiling almost embarrassingly.

"I can't believe they all came over to talk to me. Everyone but Jesse... Why is he hanging out with her anyway?"

"No time for boy stuff. We have a serious issue." I said alarmingly and her smile disappeared.

"What's wrong?"

"Vampire, Mr Haynes is here right now probably heading for this class right this minute." Her eyes widened and she whipped her head sat the door.

"What do we do?"

"Bathroom." I said and she stared me confused. But I didn't explain I rushed to Mrs Newton our teacher.

Lilac

She ran up to our teacher so I ran to our table where the boys were still sitting. I packed up our things, and kept continuously looking up at the door. The vampire has super speed he could be here any second. See this is why I need a phone. If we make out of here alive I'll be nagging my dad about it.

"So Lilac we're playing cops and robbers at lunchtime and recess..." Ethan a cutie himself started talking but I kind interrupted him.

"Really that's awesome." I said then glanced up at the door again. I looked back at him when he started talking again. He's got blond curly hair and has dimple on his right cheek when he smiles. His face is covered in freckles I always found him just that slightest bit adorable.

"We were wondering if you wanted to join us." I smiled appreciatively but then frowned when I saw Roxi beckoning me over at the door. The one time they talk to me, and a vampire has to come after me! Doesn't he respect school education. A sour taste formed in my and the queasy feeling came again. I thought I grew out of that weird danger warning sign but now it's come back again. Which must mean I'm really in trouble. I haven't told anyone about this not even Roxi but when she senses my discomfort she takes that as a sign to be cautious.

"Uh... Sure... Maybe... I have this thing..." I awkwardly stuttered and they all looked at me like I was some kind of weirdo. This is embarrassing... I mentally groaned then just waited for Roxi to come and rescue me.

"Lilac come with me to the bathroom." Roxi said and I jumped when she somehow snuck up behind me. She saw me carrying our things and she rolled her eyes before she took her own things, tucking her exercise and and pencil under her arm. Then with her spare hand she rested it on my back pushing me foreword.

"See ya guys." I said and waved at them which is so stupid because they think I'm just going to the bathroom. Ugh I suck at this. She hurried me out of the classroom and we turned to the hooks where our bags hanged. Why hasn't the vampire arrived yet? He has super speed. And the taste in my mouth has gotten worse.

"I can sense him coming. And he's not alone..." Roxi said and we started running. I want to know how she actually sense danger near, maybe she has the taste and stomach queasiness like I do. I've always wondered but never questioned in case I jinxed something.

"Damn it why aren't we aloud to have cellphones again?"

"Because the electrical waves from it attracts monsters."

"Wow you actually listen to dad."

"Yeah you should try that." She smiled over her shoulder then she pulled open the school front doors. Then she pushed back and slammed the doors shut.

"Uh Roxi, that's our way out." She looked at me wide eyed then she gulped.

"Nope we need another way." I stared at her confused.

"Why?" The door suddenly jolted but Roxi managed to hold it closed. "What was that?"

"You don't want to know." A huge yellow eye with no pupil appeared in the little window of the door. What the hell is that!?

"Roxi!" I yelled out but it was too late, it pushed the doors open so I crashed into the wall and Roxi flew far away and crashed down onto the carpeted floor. I hope that softened her landing. This growling erupted and I froze in my spot, I even stopped breathing. Roxi was still sprawled on the floor and she hasn't gotten up yet. I crawled to the corner silently then I heard a loud huff. The doors were still wide open so I couldn't this monster walking in but I heard his footsteps and wild animal like breathing. Then I saw the back of it, big red brown furry creature with black spikes down along the spine of its back, long black lizard tail and big huge claws that would could easily slash you to pieces. Could slash Roxi to pieces. She's still laying there lifeless and I have a few seconds to think of a plan without getting myself killed. Roxi stirred a little and started sitting up her back still facing this monster. I wish dad was here... I stood up steadily and slipped one bag strap off my shoulder moving it in front of me. I grabbed the zip and gently tugged on it but froze when the monster did.

Oh no.

It turned its head right around so it was the wrong way around, and I thought the vampires eyes were frightening. This creature is gruesome, it takes horror to a whole new level, they need to make a new word for it. Big feline fangs and no snout, just a flat furry face with no nose but nostrils. I can't tell if it's looking at me without the pupils but I know that it knows I'm there. It growled at me so I stepped foreword in front of the open doorway and it followed my movement.

"Here ugly..." I said and it growled again. So it must understand me. Many demons can't respond or talk but they've somehow how learnt to understand human words. Now not all of them just very few. I mean words and demons. "Come on big guy, outside is way cooler to rip people apart." I said hesitantly.

"Lilac..." Roxi whispered behind it but the drooling beast ignored her.

"What are you waiting for?" I yelled and he turned his body around the right way, I think it's a he. "Shit." I mumbled then he charged at me. I quickly unzipped my bag and searched for something useful, like say a bible. But not for what you think... I've got Eragon. I pulled it out and as he was a few metres away from me I tossed it across the floor and luckily his foot stepped on it and he slipped over.  Falling onto his flat face and I didn't wait a heart beat. Work now panic later. I leaped over his arm and ran towards Roxi who was up holding the Eragon book in her hand.

"You took my book!" She accused and I rolled my eyes.

"Do you really want to be discussing this now?" We heard him growling and we yelped then ran down the other way. "Where's another exit?"

"Uhh... This way." We turned to our left running past our classroom and our nice teacher peeked her head out.

"Girls where are you going?" She yelled out then she screamed and slammed the door shut. He just ignored her and kept going after us.

"What is that demon?"

"One pissed off PE teacher." She said sarcastically. "I don't know! I can't remember every demon he taught us about. Why weren't you paying attention?"

"Because you were paying attention!"

"You can't always rely on me!"

"I don't! Now lets just get this thing out of here!" We both stopped suddenly, also sort of sliding across the floor when we saw...

"Hello girls." Mr Haynes said wickedly then he looked behind us and his smirked disappeared. "Oh no..."

"Help us now, capture us later?" I suggested but Roxi scowled.

"As if we can trust the likes of him. Besides he's just a lame vampire I doubt he can handle a demon." Roxi stated sourly and the vampire glared at her venomously.

"Be careful now missy, just because you are young doesn't mean I won't harm you." He threatened then the monster growled and Roxi and I ran at the vampire hiding behind his legs. "What kind of demon is that?"

"We assumed it was one of yours.." Roxi responded.

"I do not mess around with demons, that is unnatural."

"Says the monster that drinks human blood to survive." I murmured and he looked down at me.

"As if you can talk young one." He said which confused me. "Besides I don't kill mortals, often. I merely feed on a bit of their blood then move on. Some mortals even offer." He must be joking. What human in their right mind offers themselves to be drunk up like a milkshake?

"Can you do something?" Roxi asked nervously staring at the beast who stood there looking at me like I was fresh meat served on a platter.

"There's only one thing we can do."
