Author's Pov
After what feels like an hour, Amora says, "I am not able to connect to her wolf" Everyone freezes. She can't connect to her? How is that possible? That's not possible...
"Mom...are you sure?" Anne questions hesitantly, hoping that maybe her mother is wrong but..Amora starts sobbing, answering the question without any word. Everyone stills.
This was a big thing. Every mother connects with her child's wolf once the child is born. This is what makes their bond so special. If they are not able to connect with their child then something is terribly wrong...
"Oh my god" Amora whispers. She starts coughing aggressively, gaining everyone's attention once again. Her eyes starts turning red and suddenly, her body twists in different angles. Everyone steps back and watches helplessly as Amora screams.
"She's turning into her wolf form" Hunter says.
Stefan frowns, his eyes on his mother, "But why is it painful?"
Anne blinks and suddenly bolts inside her room. She rummages through her bookshelf and breathes as she finds the book she was looking for. She quickly goes through the pages and pauses when she finds the page she was searching for.
Her eyes scans the content of the page and she gasps , the book slides down to the floor and Anne stumbles back, tears gathering in her eyes. Stefan rushes inside her room and holds her as she was about to fall.
"Anne!" He yells and gives her a questioning look. Anne looks at him and then points at the closed book. She tries to say something but nothing comes out of her mouth.
"Take a deep breath. In and out" Anne follows his instructions but continue crying.
"Where's mum?" Anne questions after calming down a little.
"She's out in the woods, she needs some fresh air" Stefan answers with an uncertainty in his voice.
"What's wrong? What happened?" He questions. Anne gulps and her eyes roams around the room in panic.
"I...Elizabeth...she..." She sobs again and Stefan sighs. He gently picks Anne up and sets her on the bed. Anne closes her eyes and takes a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, taking in the information she just read. Her mind was racing, trying to reason with anything and everything. This can't be true...the book is wrong...the book is fake...
Stefan rummages through the pages but can't find anything that might trigger Anne like that. He takes the book to Anne and gently asks her, "Show me"
Anne takes the book with shaking hands and flips through the pages. Tears were once again rolling down her eyes. She stops at the page and gives it to Stefan who carefully reads it, taking deep breaths in between.
He shuts the book with a loud thud and closes his eyes. He shakes his head in denial, "No. This is rubbish. Don't think about it, it's fake." He takes a deep breath, trying to calm himself but his body starts shaking when Anne starts crying once again.
Stefan stands and punches the wall, "FUCK!"
He takes the book and rushes outside the house where everyone is standing, waiting for Amora to come back.
Hunter looks at Stefan questioningly, "I heard some voices but I thought you'd handle it. Everything good?"
"Dad, have you read 'The Moon's Symphony: Chronicles of the Wolfrealm'?" Stefan questions, hoping that Hunter would say Yes.
Hunter frowned and shook his head, "No. Your grandmother used to, it's about our history and stuff, why?"
Stefan backs up a little, his body becoming still, "Is...is that book true?" He questions.
Hunter nods, "Yes, it's written by our ancestors, all pack's leaders actually. They used to write about our history and deadly incidents and diseases. Why?" He questions, not knowing where it's going.
Stefan freezes in place. Hunter's concerned eyes roam around his face and then land on the book. He gently takes the book and reads it.
No one utters a word, anticipating what's going to happen. Everyone waits for Hunter to react.
Suddenly, Hunter falls down on his knees. Everyone rushes towards him.
"Dad!" Mark yells and bends down to Hunter's level, taking in his face. Hunter's red face shines with tears but he doesn't make a sound; He cries silently.
"In the mystic depths of Eldrath, a she-wolf, keeper of the ancient covenant, undergoes a harrowing transformation. Her once sleek fur becomes a tapestry of agony as bones shatter and sinews contort, a visceral manifestation of an ominous prophecy.
This agonizing metamorphosis is an augury, foretelling the dire fate of her offspring. When the mother's body convulses in pain, tearing itself asunder to embrace the lupine form, it is an ominous sign that her kin faces a grievous affliction, perhaps death. The most dreaded demise within the pack's lore is that dealt by the fangs of her own mate." A soft voice whispers. Everyone turns towards the voice.
Amora gently emerges from Behind the tree, her face now cold and unreadable.
"Mom..." Stefan whispers, finally snapping out of his state.
Amora looks at him with soft eyes, "I know this book by heart. My mother and I used to read it" She slowly walks towards Stefan and a single tear rolls down her cheeks, "She's dead...Elizabeth..." She hiccups, "She's dead"
"By her own mate..." Anne joins, coming out.
