Smiling at the corner of his mouth, Ian turned to Max waiting for his answer. "You've known me for quite awhile. I don't go back on my promises. I'll let her go only if she hands out the spell book though. That's my only condition. For you, you have no other choice but to come with me if you want to live."
Tuning his head sideways, he smiled at him again crossing his arms. Just when we thought he was pulling out a gun to shoot us, we turned around surprised instead. With two empty patrols burning out, the police officers fell out, rolling down the alley. My eyes widened watching him shoot the tires of approaching patrols. Their cars quickly went out of control, somersaulting down inti the alley.
A sharp blast followed when the gas leaked into the atmosphere. With the smoke diving into the atmosphere, people began screaming their lungs out. But when he raised his hand to shoot three patrols coming over, Max closed his eyes screaming, "That's enough! Stop shooting!"
As I turned back wavering at the sight of the numerous dead policemen, Ian licked his dry lips and quietly turned to me.
"Are you looking for that police officer with the documents? With his son dead, I don't think he'll risk his other son's death to go against me. It's up to yourselves now!" Laughing, my eyes flickered breaking into tears. He killed his son too? How many more victims will die? I can't hand over the spell book. And I also can't let him die too?
What should I do to save everyone from him. He chuckled and smiled at me when he saw more patrols coming from a far. "Those police officers don't know their place. Decide fast. I can't help but to attack if they do first." I shook my head and held Max's hand to stop him.
"Max! No...don't listen to him. We can sort this out together," I convinced pulling him back. He remained still closing his eyes to think everything through. "Ian! You're not going to get your way with this. You can turn back and surrender to the police!"
He laughed so loudly that I had to step back in surprise. "Surrender? To those pathetic fools who claim they promote justice?!"
Realizing that he didn't intend on surrendering, I pulled Max by his hand, shaking him up. "Max?!" He didn't budge to my requests. Keeping his eyes closed, Ian rolled the gun over his fingers playfully waiting for his answer.
"All you have to do us convince her to give them to me. I won't hurt her, neither will I hurt you too. I'll help you get back on your feet. That way, you don't owe her anything. Even if you stayed with her, you'll end up dead. Your species are irreconcilable and that's why her mom hurriedly took her from the hospital bed by you. You can ask her."
He was right about my mom keeping me from him because of his inability to control his hand. But that has nothing to do with the present. Why was he coaxing Max with those. As Max opened his eyes, he turned to me hesitantly. I bit my lip unable to talk back at Ian's words.
Sighing, he dropped the gun and glared at him. "So are you with me?" With my silence, he realized Ian was right. Closing his eyes for a moment, Max clenched his fists. After a moment, he quickly raised his head. He nodded extending his hand out to accept his bargain.
"Max. No! He'll use you. Don't go with him," I cried clutching to his hand. His back stiffened emitting pure aggression on his face. "Why do you hate humans in the first place?" Pursing his lips, he turned silent and suddenly fumed with hate.
"You want know? Those fools separated me from my love. Isabella. For the sake of keeping humanity safe, they did all sorts of things. They can't be trusted. Neither with her. She'll be your end!" My thoughts drifted back to years back remembering that name.
Rushing down the car, I stepped out jumping playfully on the floor. Mom got out a minute after me and closed the doors with her keys.
"I heard a weird story from the other students today. Do vampires exist?"
She turned silent the moment after I said this. Contemplating on how to answer me, I looked down in disappointment. "Why do I even ask?Don't tell me if you don't want to!" Burning with frustration, I rushed for the door and run from her. With a heavy sigh, she run after me, locking the main door.
"Clara! Wait!" she yelled. I stood still with my bag hanging behind me. With a little smile forming from the corner of my eyes, I turned around beaming with joy. "Alright. Get changed first." Leaping with joy, I rushed yo the stairs to change quickly. By the time I got down, mom had set the table ready with vegetable salad and rice.
"This looks yummy!" I grabbed a seat quickly and picked my fork ready to dig in. "The story?" I reminded smiling so big. She sighed and passed the salad to me. "If you're going to talk about how I left the house without your permission, I don't wanna listen!"
She shook her head and bit her lips. My eyes brightened at the thought "Yay!" I screamed grabbing my teddy bear.
She turned her head for the packaged things in the house. I glared around oblivious to what was going on. "We're moving again?" She swallowed a gulp in her throat and nodded.
"This would be the last time alright?" I turned away in anger. Pushing the salad aside, I muttered, "Is that why you agreed to my request?" Although she didn't answer, but it was obvious. She never listened to me unless it was the day we are moving out to another city.
"Leaving peacefully only lasted for hundred years. Vampires became greedy for power and turned against our initial agreement. In order to put a stop to their greed for power, humans joined with werewolves and other supernaturals to put an end to them. With everyone's cooperation, we were able to take vampires down.
But one of them managed to escape the war and hid himself amongst humans for quite a while. It was only after involving with a human that the people found out his identity. There was ruckus everywhere after that revelation. Because there was one thing that wasn't noticed," she exclaimed pausing for a breath.
"What was it mom?" I asked in a little tone folding my lips. "A young woman who was of our kind was still living with a vampire after we banished vampires. So with a heavy heart, humans disowned her. She pleaded on behalf of the vampire...claiming that she was married to him. But we felt betrayed..and therefore promised to kill the cause.
Everything worsened when we found out she was with his child. The police and other supernaturals gathered around them and took out their guns. They aimed at him releasing numerous bullets against him. But she stepped in and unfortunately received everything for him. "Isabella!" he screamed watching her lifeless body thump onto the floor."
"And what happened to him?" I asked. She sighed squatting beside me, "Before they could kill him too, he escaped. We don't know if their child survived. He's probably dead."
I raised my head as a tear trickled down my face. "It wasn't humans fault that she died. It was the greed of your kind that killed her!" He scoffed and returned to me a death glare. "What do you know about that? You're just a kid!"
"Yes...but I'm more of an adult than you to know when to quit! What do you think? That after killing every human she'll come to life? Well I'm sorry to tell you she's gone! Nothing will change after and you'll be left alone!" I debated holding Max's hand to pull him back.
Ian's eyes burned with anger at each word that came out of my mouth. "Shut up!" Ian screamed marching towards me. My bun released, blown carelessly in the air as he approached.
"Get out of here!" Max screamed yanking my hand away. I wiped my tears shaking my head. "No...I won't leave you again. I made that mistake.
Each and everyone I love dies to save me. For what? To continue living?! This is not living. Each time I look at my face in the mirror, I see the faces of my dad, my mom, Janessa Kate...Tricia and I feel so useless. I can't lose you too. Even if you don't accept me anymore, I won't give up," I cried hugging him. "I love you so much." Spotting about twenty police patrols surrounding him, I saw that police officer stepping out with his squad.
"Shoot! Don't let him get away!" he yelled aiming his gun at him. The other police officers did the same and started shooting at him. He also took his gun out and started shooting too. I pulled Max back, hugging him. But he remained still leaving my feelings unreciprocated.
"Let's go and get your wound healed. Allan's also not in a good shape. You don't have to believe in his words. He folded his lips when I pulled him along. Standing still, he didn't let me drag him along.
"Max?" He broke away from me staring into the air as the cold wind brushed over our bodies. "Get used to the bitter truth. I might turn out just like him in no time. I'm not the human you knew. I don't have control over myself any longer. You should go with the police."
Before he could finish his sentence, I smashed my lips on his, resting my hands on his shoulders. My chest ignited with hope and my heart beat became irregular. His hand claimed my waist leaving no space between us.
In hesitation, he kissed me back passionately while I run my lips all over his. When the thunder stroke, he broke away from me. He turned away from me when he heard heavy footsteps approaching.
Shooting the last officer that police officer brought with him, my eyes widened when I saw a bunch of vampires hungrily moving swiftly towards us. We turned around looking for a way out but they had surrounded us. "Won't you welcome my guests?" Ian squabbled with a grin.
Max held my hand muttering something in a low tone, "Time's running. Use the back street. I'll distract them then cross the Main Street on the way to Medellin...you'll find Allan. He'll take care of you until everything settles." I acquiesced. But I looked at him after realizing he wasn't included in the escape plan.
"Aren't you coming?" He swiftly released his bow and arrow from the bag I brought along. Gauging their weak spots, he stretched it out shooting them simultaneously with abrupt speed.
"Go! I'm not worth it. Save the others!" he yelled sending shivers down my spine. I didn't have a say but I wasn't going to leave him. Stepping back, I paused after withdrawing the spare bow and arrow he gave to me.
"I promised not to ever leave you and I don't forget a promise." Adamant to let me stay, he had no other choice but to allow me to help him since the vampires had already surrounded the place.
They moved towards us. I stood directly behind him turning around simultaneously with him. "Okay. Let's do this. Be careful. It's time to showcase whatever I taught you."
Taking a deep inhale, I acquiesced and aimed at them with multiple arrows. I closed my eyes and opened after a moment.
"Let's go!" Max alarmed shooting at them. I stretched the arrow with a long sigh, hoping for the best.
I turned around shooting at them with my eyes firmly closed. I paused when I felt a light bow in my hands. When I opened my eyes, they were all dead on the floor, but Max was missing.
Did he mislead me into thinking we were doing this together to run from me after?
"Max?!" I muttered scanning my stand. Cold wind blew over me due to the impact of a hit. Max was shooting arrows at Ian who tried his best to dodge them. Ian let go off himself and squatted to dodge his fist. They threw their fist at each other continuously.
He smiled getting up. "I must admit, you're good because I taught you. You made a wrong choice. I'll take everything down with you!" He threw his fist against his wound, throwing him on the floor.
"Max!" I screamed running to him. My mind buzzed thinking if he was okay. Tears gushed through my eyes blurring my vision. Stumbling at each step, I didn't stop to rest. I needed to get to him.
