🌙12| Swift escape

Switching my phone off in an instant, he also did the same and turned to me with a sigh. "Are you sure about this?" With a chuckle, I snapped his shoulder and laughed slightly. "Are you asking yourself that question? Scared already?" He quickly rolled his eyes and pulled me behind when the security guard moved forward.

I dumped my head against the wall and took in a deep breath. Turning to me, he scoffed. "I guess it was the other way round." When I opened my eyes, he turned away and let out a laugh.

"I'm not scared! Since when did you know how to laugh anyway?" He didn't respond this time and kept quiet. I chuckled and dropped my phone in my bag about to leave. "Wait for me," he said while walking beside me. I stopped by the hall and threw critical gazes around for his presence before twirling to him with a large smile.

We waited for hours for the security guard. I spotted him standing by a walk holding his eyes from closing. After tapping his shoulder, I began walking into that records room. He was dozing off after all. This was the best chance I would get to sneak in.

After he nodded, we sneaked into the room and closed the door behind us. After rolling the opaque curtains down, I looked around for the switch since it was dark. My eyes closed when I suddenly felt a spark lightening the room. "Done! What are you searching for?"

I gritted my teeth and opened my eyes angrily. Staring at him, I found him standing five feet from me with two lighted rechargable torches in his hands. "Couldn't you have warned me first?" Twisting his head slightly, he lifted the torched and pointed it right into my face. As my arms moved up to shade my eyes, he shook his head and threw it at me.

I halfway managed to receive it in the air before I turned to him curiously. "So what are you looking for? Two hands make work better," he said exposing a smile on his face. Even though I wanted to pour out my anger on him, the smile on his face made my eyes waver.

"Suit yourself. I'm going in first." Flickering, my eyes traced his movements as he made his way towards the shelves. Shaking my head, I looked away in thoughts. "1996 registry. Tell me if you locate my name." He stopped in front of me behind one of the shelves and questioned immediately after I said that.

"What's your name?" I threw a book in his face and walked to the other shelf. Laughing, he sighed and started looking through the dates with his torch. I lifted the torch and run the light over each and every shelf from the entrance with the light.

Walking along the shelves, I glared around cautiously so as not to miss any single detail. According to where I was at the moment, I guess the other past years would be in front, exactly where Adrian was. Sighing, I curved by the end and walked towards there with my torch facing the floor.

"1996," I said running my hands over the books from that edge. My eyes soared in the middle when I saw that date. Excited, I placed the torch in my free hand and sighed. But it was difficult to access the document as it was high. Raising my feet, I stretched out my hand to pick it up. I could feel blood rushing down as I lifted my head to much.

I moved my hand up and tried to get it. But my heart began to race when I felt someone standing behind me. Turning around with my eyes shaking, I stood still when I saw Adrian standing so close to me. As my eyes widened, he looked away and took the document from the top. Turning to me, he extended the document to me.

"1996 right?" he asked while crossing his arms. I couldn't talk much with him so close to me. I quickly gave a sharp nod and looked down breathing heavily. He checked through each document in it and moved back.

But he couldn't find mine in there. "M-Mine has two names. There's another Morrison who enrolled with me that day." He nodded and passed it to me after locating my name. "Dickson, here" Adrian said before pointing to the other side of the document. I rushed over for it and pulled it out.

Running my eyes over that document, the only information on it was my first and last name, date of birth, place of birth, age of admission and date, mom and dad's name. But the most important was their professions

"Doctor? My dad was also a doctor?" I looked up to Adrian surprised. "My mom was a doctor and my dad was a policeman according to mom. She obviously lied to me."

If she lied about his occupation, then he didn't die on duty. How did my dad die? Why was she hiding it from me?

I carefully placed it back in his hands before he arranged them and put it back in place on the shelves

In thoughts, I wondered who were they hiding from to put on fake occupation. "Are you okay?" he asked twitching his eyebrows. I raised my head startled by his voice. With a sigh, I folded my lips puzzled. "Yeah. Let's go."

Just when we were about to leave, I heard someone conversing in the other room. Startled, I realized that we weren't the only sober ones here. Turning to Adrian, I guessed he also thought the same from the expression on his face.

"I need more. The ones you give me are not enough to sustain my life. I could add you though if you delay," it said. Nodding persistently, the companion opened the door quickly and rushed out down the stairs.

"Did you hear that?" I asked. He shook his head making me surprised. Was I the only one hearing voices? Turning to the stairs, he nodded.

"We should leave first before we're caught." Petrified, one of the books fell down and created some noise when I turned back.

"Hurry!" Adrian commenced and held my hand with worry in his eyes. As he heard the commotion on the stairs, the security guard got up from his sleep and threw his torch light around haphazardly.

The security guard quickly turned on his torch yelling, "Who's there?" Unable to hold my fear, Adrian covered my mouth with his hand as we moved simultaneously hiding in between the shelves.

My heart was pounding as my breathing became faster and my eyes closed. Torch light was screening all over as the guard inquired for the intruder. Thumping his feet on the floor, his eyes scanned his surrounding from where he stood.

He brushed me to the wall carefully and silenced me with his eyes. "I told you this was a bad idea. Stay put."

I knew he was right. But I had to find out about my identity as soon as possible. Nodding, I raised my head to look into his eyes pleadingly, "Let's go from here." But before I could complete my words, he pulled me hurriedly towards the exit. The security guard was getting closer and I noticed that due to his torch light.

I settled on running quickly down the stairs with Adrian. Turning back, I said to him. "This is kind of fun." He paused oblivious to my words while we run.

"Yeah. You'll know how fun this is after your detention." I laughed heartily jumping down the stairs with him. "We'll not be caught. You're here with me right?" He shook his head and curved at the end turning his torch to the other side to confuse the security guard.

We continued running when we realized the man got very close to us. "You're right. This is fun," Adrian confessed making me smile.

The guard moved haphazardly and searched for the intruders while we escaped from the back exit. Banging the door, we run to the garden at the back of the school. We managed to get further outside Beverly at least.

When we got to the streets with benches around, I stopped by one of the benches panting vigorously. "L-let's stop here," I snapped and rested my hand in the bench. He looked hardly exhausted from the run.

"You're tired so soon," he mocked. I hit his shoulder lightly with my palm annoyed at his mockery. We paused for a moment. "Well I'm human. We get tired." This reminded me so much of whenever I had ran a long distance, my mom would  give me milk to digest only when I won.

"Your mom must've fed you with milk." His face suddenly turned pale when I said this.  "No. She and my dad died when I was three." Realizing my question brought back bad memories, I stopped right there.

"Sorry." He nodded quietly and got up from the bench. "Seems we have something in common, "I confessed while smiling. " I'm also without parents now." The cool breeze blew against my hair making me shiver.

Looking at him, I realized something. His blue turquoise eyes resembled that of Max so much as they stared into mine. I felt a sudden attraction towards him and I guess he felt the same way when he wrapped his hands around my waist.

His lips were on mine teasing them into a deep kiss. A succulent jolt washed through me making me run my demanding hands  through his hair.

I mumbled against his lips agreeing with him as I tasted the seam of his lips. He pushed in and deepened the kiss. My arms came up resting against his neck. My brain melted as my mouth was on his in an unforgiving kiss and my hand tangled in his hair.

For what seemed minutes, we broke away remaining quiet. Stepping back in surprise, I turned my back on him as my eyes wavered in guilt. What was happening to me? Why did I just kiss him back?

"You remind me of someone." I folded my lips facing the opposite direction. I couldn't turn around as I was supposed to in this situation.

"You know what? I tried to avoid you a year ago when I saw you in the hallway. But I couldn't, even after you came, I don't know if you feel the same way. You don't need to answer now," he confessed but before he could finish up, I stepped back again holding my breath

"Thanks for coming here with me. It's getting late." Lowering his eyes, he nodded and walked to me. "I'll take you home," he replied. I didn't respond and just started walking ahead.  We walked all the way to my house before I stopped at my door. He looked around as if this place seemed familiar. "Are you okay?"

I nodded and opened the door. With a little grateful smile, I closed the door slowly and locked the door. Rushing to my room, I dropped my bag on the sofa and dragged myself over the stairs. When I remembered he had a picture of the document, I turned back to look for him. But as I opened the door, he was nowhere to be found, just two minute after I closed the door.

"Wow. He's fast," I thought while locking the door. I threw myself on the bed thinking about today's event. Why did it feel so good when I was with Adrian? I could express myself just like when I'm with Max.

It feels nice, but it doesn't seem right. What should I do now? How will I face him in school tomorrow? I closed my eyes, meditating silently. "Where are you? You have a night shift today." I sighed and dumped my phone on the table.  The radiant beams found their way through the window into my room by morning.

Just then a message arrived on my phone. Dragging my hand to the table, I curved the phone to my view. "Where are you? Another girl just died on the streets you use. Be careful on your way here."

I threw the phone away in anger. What's really going on in this vicinity? I promise I'm getting creeped out after every day passes by. I walked lazily to get ready.

When I got to class, it was a ruckus. "Clara, look, your name is written on the corpse's face." Everyone turned to me. Some whispering and others started staring at me like I was a murderer.
