Tapping my fingers on his desk, I stretched my neck in order to look at him directly. With a large smile, I blinked my eyes. "It won't hurt to tell the teacher about your sketches during lessons. You'll get a detention at least," I said. His eyes lowered for a moment after I said this. With a short sigh, he turned to me with a chuckle.
"Didn't realize I had a cunning sitting partner," he criticized. I smiled again and moved my hands from his desk. "When will you be available?" I asked while pushing a strand of my hair from my face to the back of my ear.
He stared at me and shaking his head after putting the sketching papers aside. "Tuesdays and Thursdays after school at the court." I responded with a sharp nod. I smiled mischievously crossing my legs beneath the desk. I turned abruptly when Miss Plum entered with her long heels which made the class noisy. Clamping the glass surface with het pen heels, she walked to the front and dropped her laptop on the table.
"Mondays too." He quickly moved his head up and glared at me irritated by my demand. "I don't have the leisure for that." The crevices of my eyebrows curved with his last words. That was exactly what Max said to me too. How come he reacts to my insistence just like him?
Pushing those thoughts off, I heard Miss Plum starting to lecture. "You must. I'll wait for you next week and the week after that, and after that. You wouldn't want to miss it." My head moved backwards at a go when I heard a sharp clearing of throat from the front.
Knowing who it was, the other students in the class turned to us with curiosity in their eyes. With a cough, I brushed my hair back with my palm and started taking the books out from my bag.
"Miss Morrison. Would you like to take on the lecture?" I lifted my head in surprise and shook my head. But after shaking my head, I nodded too. She glared at me curiously while the other students started murmuring from where I sat.
Her class was always boring although she was one of the best teachers. We just had to plot a scheme to make her leave the class. For today, I made the plans. No wonder everyone was looking at me.
I took out my phone and increased the volume as I fixed my earpiece over my ears. Crossing my arms on the table, I listened to the music moving my head to the beat. Tricia and Jess quickly followed after me and put theirs on.
The rest imitated me in no time, except for Adrian who turned to me with surprise in his eyes. Moving his chair closer to me, he asked, "What are you doing?" I scoffed and smiled at him. "Having fun. Oh she's coming!" I quickly placed them back into my ears and moved my head to the tune.
"Put your phones down. Lessons are in session," Mrs Plum complained hitting the table with a ruler.
The whole class started laughing after that. Gritting her teeth, she modeled to me and took off her glasses begin snatching my phone thinking it was actually one. But instead, it was a music box. Before she turned back, Brianna and Ryan had already set a collection of pebbles all over.
With her ridiculous heels, she fell right on the floor with her back. She slowly managed to get up. But when she attempted to pick up her glasses on the floor, I dragged it towards my side and smiled at her.
She couldn't see because I had her glasses. Forcing herself to walk to me, I passed it on to Adrian, who passed it to Brianna and they kept the chase all around the class.
"You'll all get a detention!" she yelled. Dropping her hands angrily beside her, she walked to the front and picked her laptop. She stopped by the door and walked back in. We all stared at her surprised that she was coming back to continue lecturing.
But she did the complete opposite. Dragging her phone from the table, she banged the door and left. "Awesome! Free two hours!" Brianna exclaimed after she removed her phone from her pocket. The chairs dragged on the floor when the other students started moving out from their seats.
"You're not only cunning?" I smiled and shook my head. "There are more negative attributes. You should know better if you want to skip Monday." He shook his head and got up from his seat to walk out. "Hey! Where are you going?" He turned back for a second and retorted, "You wouldn't want to know too."
With a chuckle, I turned to my seat and started looking through my books.
In order to get what I wanted, I had to. Other students began walking out too. In no time, only a few of us were left in the class. Tricia, Kate and Jess moved to my seat and banged My table together. Pointing to her watch, Tricia curved her eyebrows. "Let's go." I pursed my lips and got up after taking my phone from the table.
We walked along the hallway to the cafeteria. As I picked a tray from the other table, Catherine brushed past me and walked to the center. I watched her silently while moving towards the counter to collect her share. As she lowered the tray and received her food, I quickly walked to her when she took an empty seat.
When I dropped my tray on the table, she looked up in surprise. But when she saw me, she turned her head away and started eating.
"You should have these hamburgers. They're quite nice," I started while dropping a hamburger on her tray. Tricia and Jess stopped by the counter with curious eyes as they watched me talk to her. "I like to eat alone. You don't have to pretend." I sighed and bit my lips.
"I'm not. I don't know why you dislike me, but I never did. But one thing I know is the feeling of being an orphan. You shouldn't hold it all in. We can be friends if you're okay with it?" She doesn't respond and kept quiet for minutes. A lot of eyes turned to us as we exchanged conversations.
"Isn't that the girl who pushed Clara? Why's she talking to her?" Shaking her head, one of them shook her head. "She doesn't have any shame! Just look at her."
When she heard these murmurs, she dropped her fork on the tray and stepped out angrily. Due to her abrupt leave, the students in the cafeteria traced her movements as she got out. My eyes began to feel restless watching her leave. Adrian attempted to talk to her, but she left before he could utter a word.
"Clara. Are you okay? Did she say any mean words?" I looked up only to find my two friends settling to eat beside me. I shook my head and stared blankly at the hamburger on her tray. My eyes began to flicker too when Nathan moved in with his friends.
He left them at the centre and walked to us. Surprised, I watched him take a seat beside me. Tricia quickly turned to Jess with a cough, and before I knew it, they picked their trays and walked to another seat.
"Can we talk?" I lowered my eyes and got up abruptly after dropping by fork on the tray. Angry, I stepped out and walked to the locker room. "Wait!", he yelled while chasing after me. He grabbed my hand at the doorway leading to the other class.
I closed my eyes and opened them when I was face to face with him. "What do you want now?"
He folded his lips and let out a gasp. "Can't we go back to how we were before?"
"Tell me one thing. Was I just a friend or more? I'll leave you alone if you answer me."
My eyes blinked while my mouth went silent with my mind contemplating on an answer. He glared at me quietly waiting for me to answer. I bit my lip and replied, "You were my best friend ever since I moved to this vicinity."
His face grew pale after my statement, "I was?"
I nodded and added, "Until you left me hanging." He took his hands off of me and stepped back. "Alright. I won't bother you anymore until you change your mind. I'm sorry." Silence fell after he said this. I stood speechless unable to react to his words of defeat. As he turned back, I took a step forward and yelled.
I couldn't hold back my tears anymore. As I lifted my head, my eyes were wet with tears of frustration and anger. When he got to the door, his head turned due to my yell to call him. My instincts stopped me from walking to him instead.
Shaking my head, remorse drew in his eyes. I walked back to him and gave him a hug crying. "So you've given up on me already?" I alluded staring at him.
He smiled and walked to me before wiping a tear from my face. "No. I never did. I didn't want to pressurize you."
I pouted my lips and threw my arms around his neck sobbing. "How could you do that to me! I missed you so much."
Breaking away from the hug, he smiled again. "I promise I won't do that again. Now smile?" I hit his shoulder and wiped my tears laughing heartily.
"Clara? Where are you?" Jess called locating me no sooner at the locker room. I waved to her and turned to him with a sigh. "I have to go. I'll see you tomorrow."
Walking to Jess, she laughed, "I'm such a spoiler?" she joked while hitting my shoulder with her hand.
"You guys are alright now. Are you sweethearts too?" Jess added with a twisted eye look. "No! I'm already interested in someone else," I flinched after calling a cab. The taxi stopped in front of us.
"Go home then. It seems it may rain tonight," I lied and adjusted myself in the car.
I got to the City Mall but got a text saying no work that day. Sighing a few minutes after, I walked back to my house. Due to the heavy rain at dawn, I closed all the windows to keep warm. I woke up early the next day because I couldn't sleep. Start classes time had already passed.
When I opened the door, everyone stared at me awkwardly. I dropped my bag on the table and sat down immediately.
Catherine avoided my gaze at all cost. "You're always late," Adrian said with a smirk. I rolled my eyes and took a book from my bag.
"Meet me at the records room after school." He turned and looked at me awestruck. "Why would I go? That's illegal anyway," he rescinded.
I bit my lip and tapped his table to talk to him when he turned away. "Please, I need to check on something," I pleaded with catty eyes blinking.
"Okay. You didn't threaten me so I'll do it. But don't tell me I didn't warn you." I nodded before turning away when the teacher entered through the main door.
"Thanks." I swallowed my fear and gulped heartily. Turning to the teacher, I grabbed some books from my bag.
I needed to know when I was enrolled, why, with whom and everything. It could help me find out more about my history.
I saw Tricia and Jess busily chatting and Kate looking at me angrily from where she sat. "What's with her?" I thought while furrowing my eyebrows.
Immediately class ended, I rushed to her seat. She continued ignoring me packing her books. "What's with you?" I asked turning her to face me. "Leave me alone." She swiftly yanked my hand off and brushed me off the way.
I was utterly confused and surprised with het behavior. "Are you okay?" Tricia chirped after patting me on the shoulder.
"Yeah. I'm sure she's a bit shaken by the recent death issues. Her mother just divorced." Sighing, I smiled at them. "I'll talk to her tomorrow then," I snapped.
"Aren't you coming with us?" Tricia muttered. I shook my head and retorted, "I have something important to do." My eyes fell on Adrian who stood at the hall.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" I nodded and smirked, "Yes. Let's wait for the security guard to doze off first. Don't have second thoughts. This is it!"
