21. Survivor - Dasha
Dasha was tossing and turning in her sheets in the pitch black apartment. I had been a few days since she saw sunlight, since Michael had packed them off to Edinburgh and made those two girls guard the damn door to not occured them to exit.
On daytime it was obvious that no sunlight could touch Mila, but what about her? She was no damn bat to dwell in the dark till eternity. It's not like they had a plan as far as she knew but when they left the house in the woods there was not much room for discussion among Charlotte's screams and Mila didn't really feel like standing her ground.
There were also mundane issues, she wanted to help Mila but she also had to think about herself. In her imagination Erik's pack was going to take care of them, and well, they supposedly had lots of cash. But now she was likely unemployed and no wolf cash in sight to ease her anxiety.
It was getting strange, the whole situation started to feel damn uncomfortable.
Well thanks a lot, asshole. Why did I think again it was a good idea to come here? Yeah right, I was too trusting and a tad bit too horny for a guy that doesn't even play in my league. Why does Mila trust these people? Ok one fathered her a child but the others...? And that one seems to be dead. Damn luck of hers too.
"What's up, Dasha? Are you okay?" whispered Mila.
"No, not really to be honest. Mila, this is not how it's supposed to go."
"Hardly anything is in this life," said Mila. She seemed exhausted and that particular day even more melancholic than the previous ones.
The Mila Dasha knew almost nine months ago was certainly not quite the same person as the girl that she was looking at. That Mila was a very stubborn optimist that despite what life threw at her, and it did throw a lot, didn't give up. She even plainly refused to give up when the world was about to end. Still, this girl seemed drained of everything, hope, life energy, even the last drop of happiness.
Then again who could blame her, she was locked in the dark for three weeks now, hiding away from a maniac, with another one inside her head and a third murderous weapon in her belly.
Luckily, baby bomb didn't throw any further tantrums.
Mila said it got used to Dash's presence and was not fearing her anymore. Dasha wasn't sure.
"Mila we can't stay here. And we need a plan, a better one. Or do you want to spend the rest or your days hiding in the dark?"
"No but, I don't have a better idea. Where can we go?"
"Mila, Michael needs to help you, actually help you, not like this. Helping meaning actually assisting you to solve your issues not hide you away and hope you what? Disappear eventually like a muscle cramp."
"Michael is a good guy, he is just overwhelmed by everything, and who wouldn't be? And well, he cannot fight the sun god for me, can he? I mean he can but would likely loose and then his child would be fatherless and the pack without an Alpha. He has lots of responsibility of his own. And goddamn it, Dasha, even if by any magical way someone can and will fight them for me and win, that would be the end of the world. Maybe it's just better to let them kill me. Less damage done... But ..."
"Bomb baby, you cannot let it die to."
"I can, I just don't want to. So I have to stay alive untill it's born."
"Oh boy... Mila you cannot just stay hidden in the dark and wait to die. That's no life. I get all that you are saying, even the part about sacrifice but still... Can you not make peace with them?"
"It's uh... Unlikely, for one Selene won't let me, and if I do, Helios would want me to go live with him in his castle and be his lover as Selene used to be. They kinda had a relationship untill she fell in love with Lucius. And well, Helios kinda hates all wolf people a bit because of that."
"Helios needs therapy."
Mila chuckled and Dasha felt like smiling too for the first time in days.
"Mila, I don't want you to die."
"I don't want to die either. I want to be alive to see my child. But Dasha, if I die and it lives, promise me you are going to take care of it."
"Oh man, I am not mom material."
"I don't have anyone else to ask and I think you would do great, you are the bravest person I know. Erik is dead and the werewolves, its actual kind, seem to hate it and fear it."
"I know... so okay, fine. But I will fight for it not to happen."
"Dasha I love you. If fate is a thing I am so grateful to it that we met. You are my sunshine."
"And you are the literal moon, bitch!" said Dasha and they both laughed.
"Ok, in the unlikeliness that I am going to be a step mom, how do you want me to name the kid? Erik like his dad?"
"No, maybe as a middle name but no, the kid needs it's own identity. I don't know I don't want to choose now I feel it would bring bad luck."
"Ok fine but don't complain if I will call it Ekaterina. Katherine the great is my idol. She was a badass bitch."
"Yeah maybe not that, I might not want it named after Erik's ex."
"Ups, noted. I will find another badass person then."
"I will talk to Michael, we need to make some changes. There is no reason why you should not go out, it's not like you smell like bait and the sun wants to actually burn you. I trust Michael, he is a good person and will bring this in order he is just in a bad position."
I don't. Thought Dasha to herself but nodded regardless. She didn't have a better idea.
"Ok now let's have some breakfast. I will make eggs with bacon like my dad used to, okay? Mila? Mila?!" ended Dasha up screaming and running towards Mila that crashed on the floor convulsing.
Her eyes were pitch black and black tears were running over her face, while she moved wildly.
"Mila, holly crap don't do that. You know I cannot help you. Baby, please calm down," begged Dasha holding her body.
She knew however in her guts that it wasn't the baby this time, nothing was affecting the exterior, as it did when it was in a action, now something was tormenting Mila and Mila alone.
"Erik!" she screamed, and the scream startled everyone, it felt like a knife that went through Dash's consciousness.
The guard girls ran into the room.
"What is happening, human?"
"How the hell can I know? I am not even supernatural," screamed Dasha back still holding Mila that trembled wildly.
"No! Erik!" she screamed again and collapsed.
"Come on, Mila. Don't do this to me, wake up!"
Dasha cradles her body, taking her pulse that was weack but still existent.
"What are you staring, call a doctor!" she screamed at the girls.
"We are not authorized," said one of them.
"You must be kidding me, you dumb bitch, she might die!"
But Mila moved again abruptly and grabbed her right arm, that shone in blue light, twitching. She was however awake.
"It's okay," whispered Mila, that was still pale like a ghost and with black blood smeared over her face.
"What flavour of magic was that?" asked Dasha frightened.
"I don't know, but a frightening one. I saw Erik and it was like dead souls were swallowing him, he was eaten alive and in extreme pain and I was watching but couldn't do anything. I just couldn't reach him and... and I think it was real."
Dasha stoped to contemplate for a minute.
"Now without wanting to be rude, but wasn't he dead already?"
"... so I thought, now I know better..."
Then she turned toward the girls. They looked quite young, one had red hair and went by the name Elsa and the other one had short brown hair, was more bulky, though not at all unattractive, and called herself Bo.
"All good here after all, it seems. You are dismissed, bitches. Now hush... Show is over, go away," said Dasha waving them away.
They frowned but complied and left.
"And why was your right arm glowing blue," whispered Dasha into her hair to not be overhead.
"Oh..." Mila raised her hand and took an astonished look at her arm, the black mark wasn't black anymore but blue though not shiny.
Immediately after she unbuttoned the shirt she was wearing to look at the one on her stomach but her gaze soon showed disappointed as the mark was just as black as before.
"This should mean that Kiril is alive... again, somehow, somewhere in my reach, in this world."
Dasha raised an eyebrow and couldn't help her imagination to go off.
"Risen from the dead you say?"
"In a way, not sure how. As you see, I am still me and not quite an expert in magic."
"Can you call him?" asked Dasha.
"Huh? No. It's a mark not an intercom nor a GPS. As far as I could notice, through it Erik knew vaguely how I was feeling and when he was reasonably close, also where I was. But anyway... It doesn't really matter, not sure in what state he is and if he could or would help."
Dasha frowned.
"Ah common Mila. He is most definitely an ass but powerful and smart and at least in some perverse way he likes you. And we are going to play that."
"And what am I supposed to do? Seduce him and make him fight for me?" said Mila rolling her eyes, while Dasha smiled mischievously and noded wildly.
"Well yes, duh... You have to be smart about it though. He might be angry if he notices he is being used."
"Dasha, he is not dumb and he can read minds..."
"Here you are mistaken, Mila, love makes even the most shrewd and smart, trusting and dumb. We will see how it goes but you should definitely consider it."
In Dasha's mind it made perfect sense, use or being used and they need to survive.
"I will go ask the guard dogs for an audience with Michael, okay?"
Mila nodded exhausted. The two girls were generally staying in the hallway of the apartment, either on their phones or talking to each other.
This time the redhead was gone and Bo was talking on the phone, back turned to Dasha, fully absorbed by the conversation.
"I need to talk to your boss," she said in her usual rude tone that Dasha used with everyone but Mila.
She didn't like these people and didn't trust them at all. Somehow she needed to find a way to make things better but being locked up was nullifying all their options.
"He has decided you need to stay here for the time being."
"Yes, and I was stupid to accept these conditions. Call him. Now!"
Bo frowned and looked annoyed at Dasha.
"I am not yours to command, human."
"Certainly not, if you were, you would be fired. Have you reported to your boss the incident?"
"Not yet uh. He didn't pick up."
"Try again. Tell him Mila saw Erik and that I need to talk to him."
Dasha returned to Mila that was again crying in a corner. That sight was too familiar, lately.
"I am going to plead our cause, okay?"
"What? Where do you go?"
"To see Michael, tell him he is an idiot and get some privileges."
"I don't want you to go," said Mila.
The two girls just entered the room interrupting the conversation.
"Too late, now she got the audience. You are going now with Bo."
Dasha was sitting on the pasager seat wondering why Bo had such a Grimm expression, she was not the in trouble.
"How old are you?" asked Dasha trying to make conversation.
"Thirty-two."
"What?! You look seventeen. I wish I gad those genes."
"But you don't. You are human."
Such a delight... Thanks a lot.
Dasha couldn't grumble for long because they arrived and without waiting to be announced she just sprinted out of the car and pass Bo to storm into Michael's office.
For a few second she stood still to assess the situation.
There was a handsome brunette guy with shoulder long hair in there, but he seemed angry as can be, with sparkling eyes, frowning at Michael.
Wait, I know this guy from somewhere.
"Angel?"
"Oh my God, Dasha. Don't move, don't say anything, she cannot find out where Mila is."
"She?"
And then Dasha acknowledged the third person in the room.
Who is that? The evil queen? Because she's hot af.
