Goldie turned on the television. She could understand the human language, and most of the songs her kind sang were in English in order to manipulate them, but she couldn't speak English that much.
Sharon knew that, so she read to her each night in order to teach her. Occasionally, Goldie would repeat the phrases after her, causing her to smile briefly.
"More Sirens found dead around Boston with damaged buildings and dead civilians around them. S.H.I.E.L.D. has been attempting to put Sirens into protective services, but the Masters of Evil are still attempting to take over the world and destroy the Avengers, even with Steve Rogers in hiding and Bucky Barnes in retirement. After the deaths of Natasha Romanoff and Tony Stark, the Avengers initiative have been trying to round up more recruits."
Goldie had a frown on her face as Sharon watched from the kitchen, prepping a sandwich.
"Local authorities have placed photos on the deceased Sirens."
Photos of the Sirens began popping up on the empty space next to the reporter. Goldie whimpered, blurry eyes staring at the photos. It was her parents, along with two other unknown Sirens. Sharon noticing her whimper, stopped what she was doing and walked over to her.
Normally, she wouldn't bother psychically comforting a client, but Goldie had grown on her, especially since she was the longest client she'd taken care of so far. Sharon turned off the television and drew Goldie in for a hug, pressing her hand on the back of the head, smoothing down her hair.
Goldie wailed, and the windows shivered in anticipation of shattering. Sharon shushed her gently, rocking back and forth.
"Goldie, you can't keep wailing. Please. I know you're hurt. I'm here."
She sniffled, rubbing her face against Sharon's shirt. "Parents."
Sharon momentarily froze, understanding what had happened. "It's okay. It's okay."
It would eventually be okay, but not so soon. Goldie needed Sharon's support. She was a Siren, and an unstable Siren was always an unwelcome Siren.
It was the first time Sharon had heard her speak. It was an odd feeling for her because Sirens had an alluring voice that could easily immobilize their prey. She could remember the chills on her back and her arm hairs straightening up, but she also remembered how light Goldie's body was as she fell asleep against her chest, even with the heavyweight of her grief.
