Chapter Twenty Seven

The steak was incredible.   I devoured everything on my plate and helped myself to seconds as I listened to Alpha Paul explain the things he said I needed to know.

He told me about the arrangement between my Alpha and himself regarding his marriage to Izzie.  He said that he needed access to the ocean and ports for his business, and in return, he agreed to marry Izzie.

It wasn't long after the marriage had been arranged that he found out about Jacckson and Izzie.  I wasn't sure if I believed him.

I spent almost every day with Jackson over the past years, and I would've noticed if he was having a relationship with someone.  And the moments between Jackson and I were real.  I felt it.

And I had heard all of this before from Alpha Paul.  My plate was empty, and so was patience.

"So say you're telling me the truth about Jackson, and he and Izzie are a thing.  Why bring me with them? Why not just leave me back at the pack?" I asked bluntly.

"Because they knew at some point they'd have to pass through my territory.  You can't access the True North without crossing through here, and you would be like their bargaining chip to make it through alive. "

I laughed.

"And why would you grant them passage if I was with them?"

Alpha Paul looked at Lexi.  They held each other's gaze for a moment to long.

I was tired of being jerked around.  All my life people had treated me like an idiot.  Just a lowly Omega.  I wasn't dumb, far from it.  And with every day I spent away from the pack and Alpha that bestowed the Omega title onto me, I'd grown stronger in myself, and my tolerance for bullshit was almost nonexistent.

It must've been Joe's confidence pushing through, but without thinking, I pushed my plate away and stood up.

"Look, I appreciate the dinner, but if you aren't going to answer any of my questions, then let me go. I've spent my whole life waiting. " I said boldly.

"I can't allow you to walk out of here, Grey.  You won't survive on your own, and I will not have your death on my conscious. " Alpha Paul said with a growl.

"What is it to you if I'm alive or dead?" I spat back meeting his gaze.

A loud growl erupted from Alpha Paul as his eyes grew dark with his wolf at my disrespect.

I knew it wasn't wise to test an Alpha, but right now, I didn't care.  If what he said was right, then I had just been deceived by the one person I thought cared for me.

"And if Alpha Paul is gonna rip us to shreds, then we may as well get it on.  At least you will get a few jabs in with the steak knife before he does" Joe said.

The tension in the air was thick.   I had just disrespected an Alpha in his own home, and I knew the consequences would be dire, but I stood there ready to accept my fate.

Suddenly, the tension in the room was cut by a small giggle.  Alpha Paul and I both turned our gaze to Lexi.

"You two sound like siblings arguing." She laughed.

Alpha Paul shot her a deathly glare, but then I saw a smirk form at the corners of his mouth and without warning he too started laughing.

"These people are actually insane! " I thought.
"

Yep.  That's a go on the crazy." Joe snorted.

For the first time, I was genuinely afraid.  These two were off their rockers, and I was in a room with them.. alone.

They must've picked up on my nervousness because they both looked at me trying to stiffle their laughter.

Finally, Alpha Paul spoke.

"We aren't crazy Grey.  It's just funny...
It's funny because we are siblings."

DID WE SEE THAT COMING?
