'Hello, Moon!'
"When will she wake up, mother?" mewed a voice. I didn't know who it was, but it was familiar. Very familiar. "Give her time, she will open her eyes when she is ready." mewed an older, gentler voice, who I guessed was that of my mother. I could feel their eyes on me. Waiting for me. I felt bad at the thought of keeping them waiting so long; I opened my eyes and took a look around.
It was all so big, and bright, and strange. I couldn't see well, so I closed my eyes again, all the new sights making me just a bit dizzy. I took a breath, and the warm smell of milk filled my nostrils. Another scent, too, came to me. Cat. In specific, three cats actually. Slowly, I blinked my eyes open again.
But I didn't see anyone, only this big wall of some sort of odd, violet fur in front of me. Where are they? Were all of my siblings big, violet furred cats? And my mother too? Or was this just one of them?
"Your awake!" Swiveling my head around, I saw bright green eyes staring right at me. I jumped to my paws, startled. "Sorry, did I scare you?" The kitten mewed, stepping back to give me space. "Err, it's ok.." I replied, sitting down and letting my fur lie flat on my tail again. "Let's try this again," he mewed, as friendly as ever, "Hello, I'm Rusty!" "And I'm Princess, nice to meet you!" meowed another kitten, padding towards us. Now that I looked at them again, I guess they were my siblings. They seemed kind. I guess I'm glad they weren't bigger than me after all. "What's your name?" Princess asked, making me freeze in place. What is my name?
"Her name is Moon." purred my mother, saving me from the awkward silence that had begun to creep around us. "Moon! You have such a pretty name!" cooed my sister. "Thank you." I said timidly, giving a grateful glance towards my mother. I looked at them: Princess was just like our mother, a pretty, light brown tabby with soft, amber eyes like honey. And Rusty was a bright ginger, like his pelt so vibrant that even the darkness that I had been engulfed in before couldn't put it out. I peered down at my paws; I was a pale grey, nothing like my siblings or mother at all. But what about my eyes? Were they green, like Rusty? Or were they amber, like my mother and Princess?
I was cut out of my thoughts suddenly, "Would you like to play with us, Moon?"
