Falling

Sam had run away. This was something he was cursing right now, since he didn't really have a plan when he left. Hell, he barely had any food, and definitely no money. The young preteen sighed, looking inside his bag as he trekked up the mountain. All he had was some bottled water, a couple granola bars, and five cans of baked beans. "Not good." he said quietly, zipping his bag back up. He heard some thunder and looked up, a curse word slipping when he saw the dark clouds. Sam started to run, the sweater he had stolen wouldn't be enough to keep him warm if he got caught in this weather. The trail he was on was easy enough to trek for the 12 year old, but after 10 minutes he was panting, his pace starting to slow. Another rumble of thunder made him speed up again, seeing a cave close to the top of the mountain. He cheered when he made it in, finding a spot farther in to set his bag down.

He grabbed one of the granola bars and ate it slowly, watching the rain as the storm hit. It kept him from focusing on what would happen next, when the storm passed. He definitely didn't want to go back.... he didn't want to be a hunter like his dad. The man only cared for tracking down the demon that killed his wife, Sam and his older brother Dean's mother. And Dean was already practically a hunter. Sam sighed as he acknowledged to himself that he didn't exactly have a whole lot of survival skills, only the bare minimum from books he had read at Bobby's house. He shook his head quickly, he'd figure it out in the morning....

He looked around the cave and saw a dark spot a little ways away. Curiosity piqued, the boy walked over and stared. Before him was a very deep hole, so deep he wasn't even certain it ended. He leaned over it, looking over the edge. "Wow....." he breathed, eyes wide. He had grabbed a vine that was growing over the rocks around the edge to help keep his balance, but didn't realize that him pulling on it was causing it to get uprooted. When he leaned farther over the hole, the vine came loose from the rock. Sam yelled in fear when he suddenly lurched forward, falling into the yawning black abyss.
