We're free: Alderfly

Alderfly was always labeled as the calmer sibling. Even though his sister acted tough, he knew she would be too scared to fight off any real threats.

Ever since being sent to this deep pit of depression, as he called it, he had trouble sleeping. Instead, he usually just paced around, feeling tired, without being able to doze off.

But this night, as he was wandering near the door, he heard the sound of someone shaking the latch, followed by some metal clanking, the sound of keys, and the door bursting open.

"You're in danger! You all need to leave now!" A black and sand coloured dragon carrying a tiny purple and green dragonet shouted. Her black eyes held fear, and the dragonet looked sleepy and confused.

"Hmmm," Caligo moaned, walking out from around the corner. He looked like he hadn't gotten much sleep, either.

"Take this dragonet, and get out of here," the new dragon shoved the dragonet towards Caligo. He must have seen the fear in her eyes, as he took the baby hybrid without question. Alder, being quite smart for his age, ran off to wake the others. They weren't happy to be woken up so early, but Alder spoke to them in a panicked voice, and they followed.

"Follow me," the hybrid spoke, leading them up the tunnel to the lab Alderfly had remembered all too well. Except, when dark and empty, it looked completely different. It wasn't pitch black, as they had Light, who glowed a soft orange, but it was still dark.

Follow me-" the hybrid suddenly went completely still, her eyes holding no life behind them.

"She seening the futuor," the tiny hybrid spoke up from the back of the group.

They waited for what seemed like an hour, but was probably only two or three minutes, until the black and sand coloured dragon shook her head and looked back at them.

"We need to go to quarantine!" The dragon yelled. We need Terracotta!"

"Spooky," Fairyfly said as they walked past sickly looking dragons.

"It's not that spooky," Aether replied confidently, swinging her head around. She then jumped with a little squeak at the sight of a dragon who's face was half gone, staring creepily at the group. She gave a nervous chuckle, and the dragon gave a wave, smiling at them with her rotting, yellow teeth, which still looked creepy.

"Right here," the hybrid replied, pointing to one of the glass rooms. The only normal looking dragon Alder had seen in here sat inside, looking at them with wonder and curiosity. But that changed to fear as the SandWing-NightWing flew to the top of the box and unlocked a panel at the top.

"Who are you? Also, don't touch me. You'll die!"

"I'm Diamondback. And don't worry, I won't touch you. I've seen your power in a vision. But I need to bust you out. The safety of the world depends on it."

"Really?" The mostly MudWing looking hybrid looked at her, amazement in her  beautiful blue eyes. She spread her blue wings, which had large, dark brown spots on them, and climbed out of the glass box.

"Okay, you heard the dragon," Diamondback said, taking the lead. "Don't touch Terracotta, or you'll die sometime within the next 24 hours. Now, follow me!"

They followed Diamondback as she led them through the Wing's base, stopping them every now and again to deal with guards. Eventually, they reached an exit. A large storm was brewing, with wind and rain battering down on them as they flew out into the darkness. Lightning crackled in the sky, but it was far away from them. They flew off into the jungle for at least three hours, gaining distance from the storm and passing Beluga between them.

"Here. This looks good. I have to go back to the Wings base to avoid suspicion," Diamondback smiled at the group, pointing them down to a spot on the forest floor. It held a cave with a panther living inside. After catching it and sharing a quick meal, they nestled inside, with the exemption of Terracotta, who found herself a smaller cave.

"Wait, what do we do now?" Swelter asked, poking his head up from beside Ringlet and Subzero. He didn't touch them, though, because even though his back flame was half as hot as normal fire, it still burned.

"I don't know. The reason will pop up, soon enough," Diamondback looked nervous. "Anyways, maybe I'll see you again, maybe I won't. Have a great life." And with that, she flew off.

"That was weird," Mirror shrugged.

"Ya, but we're FREE!" Fairyfly wispered loudly from beside Alder.

"Yes, now, get some sleep," Ringlet moaned sleepily, stroking Subzero's head, who was cuddled up to him.

Alder nodded, before resting his head on Vine's side. And for the first time since entering the Freakshow's quarters, he fell asleep with ease.
