When the starving hold out their hands for a mere slice
Of what we have spilling from our bags?
Is this who we have become?

Aren't we all monsters?
Wasn't there a time when it was simpler, easier?
Wasn't there a time when we didn't have to be creatures to be feared?
Fear and respect are not the same thing
So why treat them like they are?
What makes us any different from the creatures under the bed?
They too strike with no warning
They too smile at the weak
They too lurk in our nightmares
What makes us any better than them?
After all, aren't they the monsters?
