Welcome to the Program Arc #2

Three and a half hours. That's how long it took before there was movement on the streets below. That's how long it took for Ms. Marvel to fall asleep on the vent and for you to finish off all the snacks.

Y/N: Where are you?

You let out a yawn and looked back to where Ms. Marvel was sleeping. Looks comfortable.

Your thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the sound of breaking glass. You turned back around and looked looked at the street to see three men breaking into the store.

Y/N: Marvel, action time!

Ms. Marvel shot up with messy hair and drool dripping down the corner of her mouth.

Ms. Marvel: Huh?

You motioned to the men below.

Y/N: Bad guys.

Ms. Marvel got to her feet and rushed over to you. You both nodded at each other and jumped down.

Thug: Look around everywhere. The Boss wants everything these bastards are hiding.

His two men nodded and began to search the store. You and Ms. Marvel looked inside and noticed their weapons. They looked high powered. Extremely dangerous.

Thank God you had a healing factor.

Ms. Marvel: Who do you want?

Y/N: Honestly, all of them.

Ms. Marvel stepped aside and gestured for you to go forward. You looked at her surpised.

Ms. Marvel: Come on. I wanna see what you can do. I'll jump in if things get too bad.

You smirked and pulled your bandanna up. You pushed the door open, ringing the bell that alerted the men. They immediately aimed their guns at you as you stood there.

Thug: The hell is this?

Thug: Don't matter. Shot him!

You felt your body twitch and you quickly jumped out of the way as the men began to rain gunfire upon you. You popped out your claws and moved around the shelves. You couldn't use fire in here. If you did, the whole block would be up in flames within minutes.

You hid for a moment as the men all looked sround for you.

Thug: Fan out! Find him!

The three men separated and you smiled. Amateurs. Looks like they needed to scrap up whoever they could after you and Felicia left. Made sense. You practically carried the whole family.

You spotted one of the guys and you snuck around to get behind him. You quickly leaped up, stabbed his hand, and pulled him behind the shelf. You then placed him into a sleeper hold as he kicked and tried to grab you. Finally, he stopped and you picked up his unconscious body.

You then hurdled it across the room into one of the other men, knocking him out of the fight as well. Two down. One more to go.

You stepped out into the open and looked around. However, you couldn't see him.

Thug: There you are!

You stood there for a split second. Your body wasn't reacting. He wasn't talking to you. But if it wasn't you then....Ms. Marvel!

You rushed to the front of the store where you found Ms. Marvel being held at gunpoint by the man.

Thug: You move, you die. Who sent you?!

Ms. Marvel: Would you believe me if I said Tony Stark?

This wasn't good. You had no idea how her powers worked, but her getting shot would be a terrible demonstration. But you also couldn't get too close without alerting him. Fire was out of the question as well.

The hell were you supposed to do?

Cold. Always so cold. Frost and ice. Perhaps you should use your greatest pain as a great power?

You could suddenly see your breath. It took you a moment to realize that your hands were getting colder and colder. You looked down and saw a light blue frost begin to coat your hands. The thug noticed the drop in temperature as did Ms. Marvel.

Ms. Marvel: G-G-Ghost?

You looked up at the man and smiled even wider. You slowly reached your hand up and created a blast of ice which sent the man flying through the window and out onto the street. You felt your body warm up and the frost vanished, as did the cold.

You looked at your hand for a moment. That was new. You had never done that before. It seemed to work like your flames. Interesting.

Ms. Marvel: You can control fire and ice?! That's so cool!

You looked up from your hand.

Y/N: You alright?

Ms. Marvel: Yeah. I just thought you needed some backup or ssomething. But you seemed to have it handle.

You both looked out at the street at the thug covered in frost who was unconscious.

Y/N: I guess I do.

Monster:
Year 1

You and Ms. Marvel gave the police your report while the thugs were being taken into custody. Your report was interrupted when you heard the sound of thrusters overhead. You looked up and spotted Riri flying towards you as well as Nova. They landed and looked at the store.

Riri: Rough night?

Y/N: Rough life. How did things go with you guys?

Nova: Nada.

Riri: Everyone else had a quiet night. Widow wants you guys back at the tower to give your report.

You nodded. Nova picked Ms. Marvel up and flew away. Riri stayed with you as you gave the rest of your report to the police officer. You let out another yawn and went to leave, but the media was there waiting.

Reporter: Excuse me! Ironheart and...uh, who are you?

Riri looked at you while you stood there confused.

Y/N: Uh, no comment? Is that the right thing to say?

Riri shook her head and turned back to the reporter.

Riri: You know the rules, Betty. You want answers? Talk to Widow or Tony.

You nodded in agreement and blasted off behind Riri. Betty Brant stood there for a second before she sighed.

Betty: So much for that piece.

You and Riri landed on the balcony of the tower and headed inside. Spidey, Nova, and Ms. Marvel were already there talking to Widow.

Widow: Ah, there's Frosty the Snowman.

Everyone looked at you and you looked behind you confused. You then turned back to Widow.

Y/N: Is that another hero? What does he do?

Everyone looked at you for a moment.

Nova: So he had no childhood. Noted.

Widow: It doesn't matter. Good work tonight. Ms. Marvel gave me a brief rundown of what happened but I'll need a more detailed report from you. But, we can do that tomorrow if you're too tired.

You nodded in thanks and looked over at the fridge. Were you hungry? Or were you just tired? Might as well eat and find out from there.

Widow: Good work, everyone. I contacted the Avengers about what Y/N discovered. We'll keep you posted. Dismissed.

Spidey gave a thumbs up and walked towards the balcony.

Spidey: I got some family stuff to do. Adios!

He leaped off the building and swung away with the exaggerated swagger of black teen. You then looked over to whoever remained.

Nova: Well, I should go home too. But I don't want to fly. Screw it. I'm sleeping here.

Widow: That's fine. I was going to order some Chinese for me and Y/N. Anyone else want to stay?

Riri: Why not?

Ms. Marvel: I would love to, but my Abu probably wants me home soon.

Ms. Marvel said her goodbyes and headed to the elevator. However, she stopped and looked back at you.

Ms. Marvel: The next time I'm here, we need to come up with a superhero name for you. Something really cool.

You smiled a bit.

Y/N: Sounds good. Have a good night.

And then there were four. Was that the right saying?

Widow: Alright. Let me find the Green Dragon's menu.
-------------
You laid in your bed while you looked up at the roof. It was really weird to be in an actual bed instead of on the floor. Honestly, you didn't know which you preferred. Being in your own room, alone, it was an odd feeling. You had gotten used to having someone near you.

You wondered for a brief moment what Felicia and Cat were up to. Probably on some job or something.

You sighed and sat up. You weren't tired anymore. Just, restless. You got off the bed and headed out to the hallway. You were surpised to find someone there already.

???: Hm? Oh, s'up?

Who the hell was this kid?

Y/N: Uh.....hey?

The boy looked at you and suddenly realized that you didn't recognize him. He laughed a bit and held out his hand.

???: It's me. Nova.

You looked at him closer and you suddenly saw it. You smiled and shook his hand as you realized how stupid you were.

Y/N: Sorry. Didn't recognize you without your bucket.

Nova: Yeah. Uh, my name is actually Sam. Samuel Alexander. But just call me Sam. Please.

Y/N: Sam. Got it.

Sam: So, can't sleep?

You shook your head. You had ni idea why, though. You were so tired just a while ago.

Sam: Well, wanna come with me?

You suddenly realized that he was wearing normal clothes.

Y/N: Where are you going?

Sam: Just sneaking out for a bit.

Y/N: Is that okay?

Sam: Nope. You in?

Well, it was better than laying in bed thinking about life.
----------
Y/N: Where are we going?

You and Sam were walking down the street in Brooklyn. The subway was...interesting. You were used to rooftops and blasting around. That guy wearing a leopard leotard, a thong, and playing a tuba was really something to see. You didn't want to see it, but you have.

Sam: To the best Mexican place in New York. Joyce's Mexican Madness.

Y/N: Sounds like food sickness. I'm in.

You placed your hands in your pockets and walked along. Brooklyn was always a busy place. You had been around this block a few times while on one of your walks.

You and Sam turned the corner and headed into one of the shops. The place was empty, it was pretty late, and music played from the little speakers mounted in the corners of the walls. The black seats were torn up and you could smell the food cooking in the back.

Sam: Señora! Mi amigo y yo vinimos por buena comida.

Wait, you actually understood that. He said, "Mrs! Me and my friend came for some good food". How did you understand what he said? You never spoke Spanish.

The woman smiled and Sam placed his order. And since you never been here or had Mexican, he ordered for you to. You both headed to a nearby booth and sat down.

Sam: I'm telling you, man. This stuff is great. You'll love it.

Y/N: I have no idea how you're still hungry. We just ate that Chinese with Widow.

Sam suddenly held a finger to his mouth to signal you to be quiet.

Sam: We can't just say that stuff in public, dude. All of us are kinda minors so we have secret identities. Except for Riri. She, she messed up and now everyone knows who she is.

You nodded in understanding. Right. That would be something they would have to worry about. You didn't know anyone and you didn't have a public life so you were never concerned about that stuff.

Sam: But, uh, what do you think about everything so far? Pretty cool, huh?

You nodded and smiled.

Y/N: Yeah. I-I feel like I'm actually doing good. Like, I'm finally using my powers to do something great.

Sam smiled.

Sam: That's cool. I felt the same way when I joined up with Miles and Kamala. Like the three of us were doing good.

You raised a brow.

Y/N: Who's Miles and Kamala?

Sam sat there for a moment before he took a drink from his soda.

Sam: I've said too much.

O-kay. You just nodded, but you immediately pieced it together.

Y/N: Kamala and Miles are...!

Sam quickly covered your mouth and you covered his hand as you both stopped you from screaming out their identities. Sam looked at you.

Sam: Speak no evil, Y/N.

You nodded. You both took your hands off of your mouth and sighed. That was a close one. You needed to be more careful. Your order was called and Sam grabbed it from the counter. He brought it back to the table and you both grabbed your food.

Sam: Here we go, amigo.

You both tapped your burritos together and took a bite. It was honestly one of the greatest things you have ever had in your mouth.

The other being Felicia's tounge.

Heh, wasn't expecting that one, were you?

Y/N: This is...

Sam: Heaven. I know. I like to think of this as my secret spot.

Y/N: If it's supposed to be secret, then why did you bring me here?

Sam looked at his food for a moment before he shrugged.

Sam: Riri is a genius, Kamala is the leader, and Miles was the first one recruited. I'm kinda...I don't really fit in. These guys are my friends, sure, but I'm not a guy with a helmet. Take that away, I'm just a normal guy. At least Riri still has her intelligence.

Y/N: So how do I fit into all of this?

Sam: Well, you're kinda a misfit too. You came from the streets and you can apparently get new powers. I guess I just....didn't want to be a misfit alone anymore.

You smiled a bit and held up your burrito.

Y/N: Your secret is safe with me, bud.

Sma smiled.

Sam: Thanks.

The door opened, signaled by the ringing of the bell, and you happened to look up out of instinct. You found a boy around your age walling in with his hands in his pockets.

And for a split second, your eyes met. And they grew wide. The boy stopped and looked at you.

You couldn't explain it, but you saw something around him. A strange energy of some kind. It was kind of like a field surrounding his body, but mainly his fists.

The boy smiled and walked over to your booth.

Boy: Namaste, friends.

Sam looked up from his food and finally noticed the boy.

Sam: Uh, hey?

The boy laughed a bit.

Boy: I apologize for interrupting your meal. But, I noticed something about your friend here. He has a very, extreme aura to him.

Wait, so he could see that force around you too? You wondered what yours looked like.

Y/N: So, I'm not imaging things?

The boy shook his head.

Boy: My name is Daniel Rend. You can just call me Danny.

You shook his hand.

Y/N: Y/N. So, what is it?

Sam: Am I missing something here? I feel like I'm missing something here.

Danny: It's hard to explain. Everyone has an aura. Some more powerful than others. I just never seen one like this before.

Y/N: I've never seen one before, period.

Sam: I can agree to that. What do they normally look like?

Danny rubbed his chin and gave it some thought.

Danny: The best way to describe it is, your aura is like a blanket that covers your body. If that helps.

Sam: Kinda. I'm not all good with hippie stuff.

Y/N: I don't quite get it either. But, I can see it.

Danny just smiled and looked over at the menu.

Danny: I suppose I should leave you gentlemen to your meals. I hope we may meet again, if the universe wills it.

Danny gave a short bow to the two of you and headed off to order his food. Sam finished his food, balled up his wrapper, and tossed it over to the trash.

Sam: What a weird dude.
------------
Widow: So, you're probably wondering why I wanted to speak to you.

You were following Widow through the tower so that she could show you the surpise she had mentioned.

Y/N: You're not gonna try to kill me again, are you?

Widow laughed a bit.

Widow: No. Not now, at least.

You stopped walking and thought to yourself. You shook your head and continued following her.

Widow: I just wanted to show you a room that you might find interesting.

She opened the door to the room and walked in. You followed her and found your mouth wide in awe.

You looked around in amazement at all of the technology that surrounded you. The tower was truly something amazing. This was a room all to your own.

Widow: This is your new home now. I'm sure you'll fit in just fine. Just try not to catch the building on fire.

You looked at her surpised.

Y/N: Wait, you're just trusting me with all of this?

Widow nodded.

Widow: Do whatever you want. This room was originally made as a prison for super villains to restrain their powers. So, you can come in here and train or hang out or whatever and keep track of your progress. Whatever you want.

You smiled and stepped forward. Ready to try something new that will help you on your path to being a hero.

Then Widow grabbed your collar and pulled you out of the room.

Widow: Not so fast, hotshot. We're having a meeting. You can play with all your new toys after we're done.

You just pouted as she dragged you along.
------------
Widow: Good news, kiddos. We're going on a raid.

You sat on the couch with the other young heroes as Widow held the meeting. But you were all confused.

Ms. Marvel: Come again.

Widow gestured to the TV which showed a bunch of data.

Widow: Thanks to Y/N's discovery, we now know what we're dealing with in regards to the illegal Vibranium distribution.

Spidey: Sweet. So, what's this raid thing about?

Widow: I was getting to that. The Avengers are leading a raid on some Maggia strongholds. This will act as a joint operation between the Avengers, the Program, and the Defenders.

Y/N: Who are the Defenders?

Everyone looked at you.

Sam: The Defenders? You don't know who the Defenders are?

Spidey: They're street level heroes. They mostly deal in drug busts, kingpins, and stuff like that.

Y/N: Oh. Right.

You totally knew what that meant.

Widow: So, you're all are going to be working with the Avengers. Except for Y/N.

Y/N: What?

Widow: You're going to be working with the Defenders to provide them with the extra firepower they'll need.

Which brought us to here. With you standing in front of an apartment in Harlem. Interesting place. You looked at the card with the address and then at the door in front of you.

Looks like this was the place. You placed the card back into your pocket and knocked on the door.

Looks like this was where the Defenders were going to meet. Who were they again?

The door opened, and your eyes went wide at the familiar sight.

Danny: Well, this is a surpise.
