The Visions Arc #1

The Monster found himself staying among a family of synthezoids in their home. While they looked like and spoke like humans, the Monster found himself enamored by the thought of their inner workings. Likewise, the youngest member of the family was enamored by the Monster.

However, this perfect family would soon prove that there was no such thing as perfect after all.

In the worst way possible.

Monster:
Year 1

Y/N: So, how does it work again?

Viv phased her hand through the wall.

Viv: It's not hard. I can separate my molecules. I tell my hand to not be a hand.

She pulled her hand back out and showed you that it was now solid. You were still impressed by all of this.

Vin: And when I pull my mold together, I am very dense. Very strong. I can throw you as far as a football field. Would you like me to throw you?

Y/N: Maybe later.

It was now day two of you staying with the Vision family. And honestly, it was still a bit strange. But at least Vin and Viv seemed to enjoy your company. And they did kinda act like actual teens. Kinda.

Viv: Wouls you like to play catch?

Vin: We have a football.

Currently, the three of you were both the back yard of the house. Vision was off at the White House doing, whatever it was he did for work, while Virginia was inside. She was just sitting on the couch. Viv had explained that she was going through her preloaded memory banks. Whatever that meant.

Y/N: Sure.

You stood up from the grass as Vin flew up towards his room.

Viv: Y/N, did you sleep well last night?

You nodded.

Y/N: Like an old man during the rain.

Viv: I am afraid I do not get that reference.

You rubbed the back of your neck.

Y/N: Well, it's like that one song. "It's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring"~.

Viv: I see. I must have no come across that song yet.

Right. Viv and Vin learned everything through the internet. Made sense. They were computers after all. Well, computers that had emotions and thoughts. The robot revolution is beginning and you welcomed your robotic overlords.

Vin: I have found the ball.

He threw the ball at you and you caught it. You looked at it and noticed the mascot. It was a native man with War paint.

Y/N: Is this your school's mascot?

Vin: It is the old mascot. They have redesigned the logo but they have not fully changed it on most of the merchandising.

You tossed the ball up and threw it back to Vin. He caught it with one hand and threw it to his sister. She caught it and threw it to you. That was....actually really weird. Was this what you were going to do for the next few minutes. Oh God, was this going to be the next hour?
---------------
Vision: You both appear adequate.

Virginia and Vision stood by the door while you stood by Viv and Vin. They were dressed to go out and show you the mall since you had never been to one.

Virginia: No. No. No. Please come.

Vin stepped forward and Virginia fixed his flannel.

Virginia: You must be mindful of the clothes. Clothes that phase are costly. Please be aware not to stain them.

Vin: Yes, mother.

Vision, on the other hand, seemed more concern.

Vision: They are going to the mall. They will remain solid.

Virginia turned to her husband.

Virgina: The children will act as needed. Danger is not near until it is near.

Vision: True. But it will not be near. If it is, Y/N can assist. He has permission to do so.

Y/N: I do?

Vision: You are a part of the Program. You may act accordingly to the situation. How ever, you need not worry about such things. You are children. You should remain children.

Viv: But, father. What else would we be?

Oh, oh, why did that just hurt your heart?

The three of you walked out of the house and headed down the street towards the mall. You had your hands in your pockets and your bandanna hung loosely around your neck.

Vin: The mall is a fascinating place. So many stores in one convenient place.

Y/N: Do you guys go there often?

Viv: On occasion. Many of our peers at school go among groups. We have yet to be invited.

Oh, your heart hurts again.

Thankfully, you had a short of allowance within the Program. That and you had some funds saved up thanks to your jobs from before. So at least you weren't mooching off of the twins or Vision. But, you still felt bad for the two synthezoids.

They were programed to act like teenagers, to grow and learn, but they were never treated like it outside of their family.

Viv: Are you alright?

You snapped out of your thoughts and looked at the two. You then smiled.

Y/N: Yeah. Thanks for hanging out with me.

Vin and Viv seemed surpised by your appreciation. In truth, you honestly meant what you said. You only had one friend for so long. Now you were a part of this Program with others like you. At least in terms of wanting to be a hero. But you were glad to meet more people. It made you feel less alone.
--------
Viv: The food court is located on the second floor.

Vin was off looking at a computer parts store, you didn't want to know, while Viv showed you around the mall. It was actually a really interesting place. So many stores and so many people.

And so many phones taking photos of Viv and Vin. You were a bit nervous, but no one seemed to pay you any mind. You were just their friend, you figured that's what people thought.

But it didn't mean you didn't feel for the twins. They were trying their best to fit in. To be normal.

Viv: Is there a store you wish to visit?

Y/N: No, not really. What about you?

Viv didn't shake her head or nodded. She didn't make any motion to answer. She just spoke.

Viv: We are here for you.

Y/N: Well, you don't have to do everything I want. If you want to go and look at something, just say so. I'm happy to follow along.

Viv: Very well. In that case....

So there was a place she wanted to go.

Viv: I would like to visit this store.

She pointed at a nearby store that you didn't recognize. Well, you didn't recognize any of these stores so that wasn't really a surprise. Still, you followed Viv inside.

On the otherside of the mall, Vin looked around the computer store for the part he needed for his laptop. While he was a computer and connected to the internet 24/7, he still needed the laptop for his schooling and for updates to his neural system. Whatever that meant.

While Vin browsed, the girl at the counter watched him. She knew him from school. She had seen the way he and his sister acted.

Girl: Hey, you.

Vin turned around and looked at the girl.

Vin: Yes. Yes. Me?

The girl turned her computer around and showed him her screen. On it, in big bold letters, were three words that seemed to shake Vin to his core.

Are you normal?

Vin slowly turned back to the parts. Normal? What is normal?
------------
You and Viv sat in the food court where you ate. Viv didn't need to eat like you did, so she just watched. It was weird.

Y/N: So, uh, what do you guys even like to do? In regards to your free time.

Viv: Me and my brother often spend days learning anything we can acquire from outside sources. We often argue with each other, however, based on our information from various sources. I had once punched the staircase.

Was that where that weird spot came from? Did she punch a hole through it? You had seen it but you didn't want to say anything.

Vin joined you three at the table and sat down. However, you had noticed the look on his face. As if he was processing something.

Y/N: You find what you were looking for?

Vin: No, I did not.

He then looked at Viv.

Vin: Viv.

Viv: Yes, brother?

Vin: Am I normal?

You lifted your head at the question.

Viv: Father says that we must strive to remain ordinary.

Vin: Yes, I know. But, is that the same? Does doing so make me normal?

Viv thought about it.

Viv: I do not know.

Vin then turned to you.

Vin: Y/N, do you think that I am normal?

Viv looked at you as well. Guess you would be answering to both of them. You rubbed your chin for a moment and thought about it. You then shrugged.

Y/N: No. Not really.

Vin: I see.

Y/N: But that's not necessarily a bad thing, Vin.

Viv looked at you intrigued.

Viv: Please, explain.

Y/N: Well, what is normal? I mean, look at me. Do you think in normal?

Vin: I would believe so.

Y/N: Right? Well, I'm a patch work of God knows what for some kind of purpose I don't know. I have powers and I'm constantly evolving for some reason. I'm not normal. No one really is.

Viv: And by not being normal...

Vin: We are normal.

You gave it some thought and nodded.

Y/N: Yeah. Sure. Something like that.
------------
It was the next day when Vision approached you, dressed in his uniform, and asked you a question.

Y/N: You want me to go with you to...visit the president?

Vision: Indeed. You will work closely with the government and SHIELD while training to be an Avenger. Now would be a good opportunity for you to meet with and speak to the President of the United States.

You were sitting on the couch playing video games with Viv and Vin when Vision approached you. It was random, but it was actually an interesting opportunity. Plus, what was the harm in it?

Y/N: Uh, sure. Yeah.

You stood up and looked at the twins.

Vision: They will not be accompanying us today.

Y/N: Alright.

You followed Vision towards the door. Suddenly, everyone stopped what they were doing and walked over to the door.

Virginia: Have a good day, husband. You as well, Y/N.

Viv: Have a good day.

Vin: Have a good day.

This was, seriously going to take some getting used to.

Vision: We will be back for dinner. Have a good day.

Y/N: Y-Yeah. Have a good day, guys.

You smiled, to which Virgina smiled back. She ruffled your hair and returned to the kitchen. It was weird, but it made you feel....warm. Was this, a mother's touch?

Vision opened the door and started to head outside while Vin headed back to the living room. However, Viv stayed there.

Viv: Y/N.

You stopped and turned around.

Y/N: Yeah?

Viv: When you get back, would you like to discuss how your day went?

You smiled while Viv waited for your answer.

Y/N: Sure. Sounds like fun.

Viv smiled ever so slightly and left to go back to the living room. You figured it would be nice to have someone to talk to when you got back.

Actually, you had a whole family to talk to. Even if they were a bit odd, they were kind. They may be robotic in the way they acted, but it also felt sincere.

It almost felt like you were a part of a family.

It felt, nice.
-------------
You sat in the oval office, yes, the oval office, beside Vision who was talking to the freaking president of the United States of America. This was....unreal.

After introducing yourself as an up and coming hero training to be in the Avengers, you and to wear your bandanna for protocol reasons, Vison and the president started discussing Avenger stuff.

You also learned that Vison was the US representative for the Avengers.

You didn't know what that meant, exactly.

President: Y'Know, it's funny. Meeting you two, I never felt so safe yet so scared. Isn't that funny?

Vision: Yes, Mr. President.

The president the looked at you. As if to wait for your answer.

Y/N: Well, I mean, you should feel safe. That's why the Avengers were created, right? To keep people safe.

President: That is a good point, kid. The Avengers and other heroes like them should be keeping this country safe.

You sat up a bit more.

Y/N: Well, they should keep everyone safe. Regardless of the country, right?

The president nodded.

President: I guess you're right. It's good to see that the youth still want what's best for the people.

You smiled at the praise. You were getting pretty good at this hero thing. Maybe. You were still pretty fresh to it all. But, you didn't care. As long as you were doing good, being good, you were happy.

You will use these powers to save as many people as you can.

Meanwhile, Vision watched you out of the corner of his eye. A small smile on his face.
------------
Y/N: And then he asked me to take a picture with him. It was so cool. The President asked me to take a picture with him. I felt like one of those famous people.

You sat at the dinner table, you were once again the only one eating, while everyone else sat there and shared their daily experiences.

Virginia: It sounds like you had fun.

You smiled.

Y/N: I did. And, uh, thank you, Mr. Vision, for bringing me with you.

Vision: Of course. I am glad you enjoyed it.

Sharing your experiences with everyone made you feel good. Like someone mattered. You never done this before. It made you feel less isolated from the rest of the world. You didn't even realize you felt that way until now.

The excitement in your voice, the expressions on your face, even the motion of your hands were all caught by Viv. She smiled the entire time.

Vision: Then, I would like to discuss something with you.

You looked at him confused. Did you do something wrong?

Vision: I had contacted Natasha Romanova prior to your arrival. She had mentioned that you had no family to speak of. That you were an orphan.

Y/N: Y-Yeah. I grew up on the streets.

Vision looked over to Virginia who nodded.

Vision: Me and my wife had discussed this, and we would like to adopt you into our family.

Your eyes went wide and you sat up. Adopt you? As in, they would be your family? You would have a family?

Virginia: That is, if you desire it. You have time to ponder over this choice.

Adoption. That would be....

Y/N: Uh.....I...I think I need to sleep on it. Think about it.

Vision: Of course. Take your time. Regardless of your answer, you will always be welcome in this home.

Vin: Totally.

He gave you a thumbs up and you smiled. A family, huh?
---------------
It was night time when you found yourself laying in bed. All was quiet. All was calm. Vision had headed out about an hour ago on some urgent Avenger business. Everyone else was asleep.

Or so you had thought.

Viv: Y/N? Are you awake?

You sat up and looked at your door.

Y/N: Yeah.

Viv: May I enter?

Y/N: Sure.

You sat at the edge of the bed as Viv phased through the wooden door. She was dressed for sleep, not that they really needed it, with her hair up and with a green tank top and yellow pajama bottoms. In the dark, you could see her eyes glow a bit.

Y/N: Hey. What's up?

Viv: I, could not power down. I had noticed that you were still awake.

She could tell? She must've read your vitals or something. She had done it before when you were playing catch. She can scan your heart rate and blood pressure as well as other things.

Y/N: Yeah. But, if you knew I was awake then why did you ask...

Viv: It was a common courtesy.

Y/N: Ah.

Viv floated over to you as to not make any noise. She then landed a few feet away from you.

Viv: Are you alright? Do you require water? Perhaps some milk?

You shook your head.

Y/N: I'm fine. It's just, I have trouble sleeping sometimes.

Viv: Is there a reason?

You slowly nodded.

Y/N: I have these...nightmares, sometimes. Makes it hard to stay asleep.

Viv looked at her hand then back to you.

Viv: I may be able to assist.

You raised a brow.

Y/N: Really? How?

Viv: I can rewire your brain in order to allow you to rest, undisturbed, for the recommended 9 hours.

She could? That was, awesome.

Viv: Would you like me to do so?

You gave it some thought before you shrugged. Why not give it a chance. Not like she could accidentally kill you or something.

Viv: Please, lay back.

You did as instructed, and Viv leaned over you. She placed her hands on both sides of your head and you closed your eyes. Her fingertips glowed and suddenly, you were out like a light bulb. Nothing could wake you up now.

Viv slowly stood back up and smiled.

Viv: Sleep well, Y/N.

She floated out of the room, and was surpised to find the light on downstairs. She phased through the floor and found her mother in the kitchen, chopping fruit.

Viv: Mother?

Virginia turned around.

Virginia: Vivian. Why are you not asleep?

Viv: I was helping Y/N. Why are you awake?

Virginia: I am getting ingredients ready for the morning. I am making granola for Y/N. I want him to feel like he is welcomed here, regardless of his choice.

Viv: Of his adoption?

Virginia nodded.

Virginia: He is a nice child. He is very kind. Your father and I would like very much for him to accept our family so that we can help him grow.

Viv smiled at the idea. You were indeed a kind boy. She knew you were nervous when you first arrived three days ago. However, you stopped being scared and you treated them with respect. You didn'took at them like everyone else did.

She enjoyed that very much.

That's when the blade went through her. Virginia turned around at the noise of metal being pireced and found her daughter dropping to the floor with a massive hole in her torso. Wires and oil and such made a mess on the floor as the wall came crashing down.

Behold, the Grim Reaper.

Grim Reaper: Imposters! Imposters!

Viv: M0ther? M0ther?

Awoken by the noise, Vin phased through the floor and found the source of the commotion. You were still asleep, unable to awaken or even realize what was going on.

Virginia: Vivian!

The Grim Reaper suddenly slashed down at Vin, slicing his arm.

Grim Reaper: Frauds! Artificial jokes!

He then pulled out a blaster and fired it at Virginia which knocked her down. He turned to Vin.

Grim Reaper: You pretend to be my family? You're not! You aren't real!

He sliced at Vin again, getting his other arm.

Grim Reaper: Simon is real! I am real! Fid you think I wouldn't find you? Everywhere I look, I see you. Everyone is so eager to share their photos of their new perfect family.

Viv: M0ther? M0ther? M0ther?

The Grim Reaper stepped on Viv as he made his way towards the crawling Vin.

Grim Reaper: A family made from a stolen copy of my own brother! When will you learn? Vision is not Wonder Man!

Vin was grabbed by his shoulder and pushed against the cabinets as the Grim Reaper lifted up his blade.

Grim Reaper: You are not a family! YOU ARE NLT REAL!

However, before he could finish off the son of Vision, he was smacked in the back of the head with a cooking tray. The force of which Virgina swung the tray caused a spaltter of blood to stain the white wall.

Virginia: NO!

She followed the Grim Reaoer down to the floor where she contiued her assault.

Virginia: N0! N0! N0!

Viv's body twitched on floor while Vin leaked oil from his arms. He watched as his mother contiued to cave in the skull of the attacker. A man he had never seen before. He watched as the life left his eyes. How his body stopped moving on it's own. The way it jerked every time Virginia brought the tray down.

Vin: Mother! Mother, stop! He's...Mother! Mother!

Virginia stopped suddenly when she finally processed her son's voice. She looked at him, then at the man below her. Her eyes grew wide as she slowly stood up.

Virginia: What, what did I...is he? Oh no. Oh no no no.

Viv: M0ther? M0ther? M0ther?

Virginia looked at her son, blood staining her face, and tears in her eyes.

Virginia: Please do not tell your father.

Upstairs, you slept unaware.
